Fable 2 Development

You didn't see that one coming, did you?

Published Wednesday, February 20, 2008 11:44 PM by Sam
Well, did you? This morning (San Francisco time) the first of several keynotes took place in the Moscone South Hall with a lot of cool stuff being revealed about XNA, Dream Build Play and of course a lot of gaming G o o d [Good]ness. Just in case you missed it, Peter took to the stage to reveal two new features in Fable and with the help of Josh Atkins, gave a live demo of the game which was absolutely fantastic (if I may say so myself). Meanwhile, little old me was sitting backstage with my camera filming people in "the green room", people walking on and off stage etc.... getting nice soundbits with the likes of Cliffy B which hopefully will make nice material for the next video diary. I am however, exhausted. The week isn't over yet, so keep an eye out for screenshots, impressions from the keynote speech and demo and of course the usual interviews with Peter Molyneux. This should be an informative week for anyone who's looking forward to Fable 2!

Co-op is interesting, but ive never been a big fan of it personally. I find the XBLA gambling mini-game feature very intriguing however!I cant wait to hear more about how that will work. And the game is starting to look eye-meltingly fantastic! Keep up the G o o d [Good] work!Stick out tongue [:P]

I guess its an innovative way of doing co-op....

but what does it have to do with trees!?
and why did people laugh at him when he suggested it- he said this in an interview a while ago....

I thought it was supposed to revolutionize the industry, but really? co-op is the big one? I guess it is cooler if I see the video... I just hope this isnt the BIG third feature, instead just kind of a... "oh you thought it was co-op!? it is actually (super amazing feature)"

well regaurdless the idea seems preety cool- except for the people without live Surprise [:O]

If this was just a taste of things to come from GDC, then the forums are really going to explode on Friday.

The new info is awesome.  I think its a brilliant idea being able to use you character from your own game as a sort of tag team mercinary.  And using the mini game in xbox live is a sweet way to build up some quick cash.  Cheers!

I read on Gamespot that they demo-ed the Co-op on 1 Xbox in their demonstration, so I think that means their is a strong possibility of it not requiring live (ie. no need for internet! YAY!) Xbox Live has been confirmed (obviously), which is also awesome. The GDC presentation was amazing, and hilarious!  I'm REALLY looking forward to this game Stick out tongue [:P]

I hate the the arcade idea, i thought the most fun thing about fable was earning your money not by having this arcade crap.

What a neat feature! I loved the fact that we can deck out our own houses, too!

God, I love you guys. *Drifts off into a Lionhead fantasy involving whipped cream and Fable 2's impending release.*

The XBLA game was quite a hook alright. Didn't see that one coming, like at all. On the other hand Dene's strange comments about how some people played just the pub games suddenly make a lot more sense.

The co-op... not so much. It was pretty obvious from the start. But, that said, if it's with Xbox Live and no shortcuts are taken in the implementation, then I'm surprised. Smily [:)]

Arcade Pub games: excellent little idea. It's an INSANELY SIMPLE concept, and I'm surprised no-one did this before. Of course, not getting money from quests and being able to make money while not playing Fable itself should hit a G o o d [Good] balance.

Co-op.... everyone was hoping for it, but I don't think anyone was sure of it. This will certainly take the game into a wonderful new direction and increase the replay value tenfold. Hopefully co-op will be both offline (system link, system co-op) as well as on Live.

Keep up the great work, and give us a release date already! (I'm now guessing November, the week before Gears of War 2).

Dude, the Arcade game idea is insane!!!  One thing I am wondering though in terms of co-op, can you bring another dog as a henchman?

Ahh the gambling concept I really really dislike. I never gambled in the original game for several (hundred) reasons, and now it seems like it's an essential part of this game Sad [:(]

How disappointing..

However, the co-op idea looks brilliant and the family is amazing!

EDIT:

Furthermore, I want to play FABLE! and only FABLE! not some stupid separate arcade game.. why can't you just earn money within FABLE doing FABLE things.. FABLE! the game that I'm waiting for!

FABLE!

Lmao, if you look on the "Lane" Screenshot from GDC, you can see a pic that the Concept Artist Mike(I dont know his last name) has on the Lionhead team Roster, its like a little easter egg hidden in the merchant's wagon

The arcade mini-games sounds alright I guess, pretty inovative though.

Co-op:  I think some people missed the point which is that the current co-op is offline only.  At the GDC demo one of the reporters asked about this feature being used over Xbox live, and Peter said that he couldn't talk about that yet.  So the Co-op demo that you saw was on a single Xbox.

The reason that this is so innovative is the way their handling co-op.  It's not a matter of starting up the game and picking co-op.  It's about the fact that everyone has their own world, and you can have someone jump into your world at any time.  The possibilities with this and Xbox Live are awesome.  It's like everyone having their own persistent world that you can go visit at any time...

Jpeg:  I don't think you need to do the gambling in order to make money.  Peter hinted at being able to work jobs in order to make money too.  I think Blacksmithing was the example that he used.
