Fable 2 Development

E3 Coverage

Published Tuesday, July 22, 2008 12:47 PM by Sam

With E3 come and gone, we'll be taking a look at some of the coverage that's been finding its way onto the interwebs. Legions of journalists were set free on Fable II last week which is bound to bring forth coverage and so we seh...

First up is a hands-on preview from Shacknews, Fable 2 Preview: Condoms, Combat, Domestic Abuse taking a look at the other things in the game.

"Suffice it to say, I had a lot of fun with Fable 2. It was enjoyable to just play around and explore with no real incentive in mind. It was fun, and surprisingly easy, to kill guards for trying to take my lunch money. And the way my dog would stay by my side and look at me like I was awesome, regardless of my slap-happy approach to woman and children, was both adorable and horrifying."

GameInformer brings you Fable 2 Updated Impressions, stating that "While the public seems to be eyeing Gears of War 2 as their next huge title, Fable 2 is looking more and more like it could steal the show."

Gamespot doesn't bring you just a single preview, they've got three! Firstly, E3 2008: Fable 2 Impressions, next up is a Fable II Show-Floor Demo Hands-On and finally they take a closer look at Fable II Impressions - Meet the Bard. "Fable II is currently scheduled for release in October and, in case you haven't guessed, we're just a little excited for it. We look forward to bringing you more information on the game in future."

Meanwhile, gaming site IGN brings also a couple of previews and articles on the game, first up a nice Fable II Hands-on (which I am not linking because it has spoilers: AVOID!) and then they get Fable 2 Down and Dirty where they investigate the seedy side of Albion. "Fable II is indeed coming in October. Lionhead is not missing that date. And, from what we've played at E3, it's going to be worth the wait."

Finally, 1UP also published a hands-on preview with our little baby Fable 2, which can be found at this link. "Peter's a great storyteller. He's often criticized for all of the hype he speaks and his inability to deliver on it. This is one of those cases, though, where it really may be justified."

There is a lot more to read and watch, ranging from videos to trailers, screenshots and art. This however should keep you going for a couple of hours, if you haven't read this yet that is...

Unfortunately I already stumbled across that IGN spoiler preview and I definately think you're right to tell people to avoid it, even though it was pretty informative.

On the uphand though at least the spoiler they leaked is one from very early in the game;  in contrast back before Mass Effect came out I was irritated when several sources blew possibly the most dramatic moment in the whole game which happens about 3/4ths of the way through.

While I certainly want to see more previews and footage of the game before it comes out, I think you guys at Lionhead would be wise to continue to limit what the press is allowed to see; for the press in all cases has a warped obsession with being the first to report anything, regardless of whether anyone needs or even wants to know.

Thanks for helping me avoid spoilers. I know that if I see a link then I will sadly click on it, and before I can stop myself, I will have read the whole thing - thats how I ruined the ending of "Portal" for myself.

Its all looking possitive so now I really cant wait!

gears of war 2 taking the eye of the public ??? its like every other shooter game out there, ofcourse fable 2 is gonna take the spotlight because of the amount of awesome new features that you don't see in rpgs at all.

I think the problem is they are comparing two different genres. People that are going to play GoW2 are into shooters, whereas Fable2 is an RPG. It would have been more accurate to say that Fable2 is going to steal the limelight from Fallout3 instead.

Wow, I just found this. I probably already saw the spoilers, at IGN. Sorry. It made me want them more, though.
Wonderful job on the game, guys, I'll probably play nonstop a week, when I finally get the game.

Just back from reading all those. This was already the game I'm looking forward to most this year and now I'm even more excited. October's release date is three months away at most and my limited edition was preordered before it was confirmed. I so can't wait. This "an outlaw forever" in towns where you keep killing guards and don't pay fines or do jail time sounds great for my E v i l [Evil] characters. The NPC non-quest tasks and community service also sound like cool little ways to pass time in the game on top of the jobs with promotions, raising a family, playing with your dog, questing etc. Strangely, the feature I couldn't care less about is the one my girl is most excited about - changing the names of in game characters. Totally love that condoms are rare items too, though the reusable bit just brings back memories of that old advert with the old man talking about Geronimo.

I wouldn't call the IGN one full of spoilers though. It's nothing that Official Xbox Magazine hasn't told us before.
