Fable II Quests & Creatures Survey

Published Thursday, November 20, 2008 11:28 AM by Woody

I've decided to put up a little survey to see which quests were most popular in the game. We did a survey internally - here at Lionhead and MGS - to see what people really liked and we'd like to compare it with what the Lionhead Community most enjoyed.

There are four different categories; core quests, side quests, creatures and characters. So if you've played the game please put yourself back into the mind of your Hero or Heroine and rate each quest and creature from Bad to Great!. (N/A if you can't remember or haven't played the quest)

I've used SurveyMonkey.com because I liked the name and it does exactly what we needed.

The Fable II - Quests & Creatures Survey

Edit: the survey is now closed. We'll be analyzing the results and want to thank everyone for their responses and feedback!

The core quests were sweet but felt a little bit underdevoped in that alot of mysteries went unsolved...maybe the big announcement might have something to do with that?

Side quest were G o o d [Good] but would have liked more quest linked to your family i.e. the rescue or blackmail

Characters were, as ever, the strongest part fo the game

Would have like a wider variety of enemies though. In the special edition walkthrough guide you get a free art book and some of the character concepts i.e. the Hobbe Master looked amazing. Also more boss-type creatures were definitely a big loss to the game i.e. some kind of king troll or alpha balverine

This game was G o o d [Good] the quests were enjoyable if not a little repetitive from the previous title i.e the crucible and the arena

It seems that the main quests took only a short time to complete and left a lot of questions to be answered,

I can't help but feel that Lionheart have been holding out on us the gamers in order to make money on future DLC content which has already been developed.

This will hold us the gamers at hostage while making us pay out more in order to further explore the storyline.

Business savvy yes... fair no

Core quests should have been longer and should have made the player think more and make the battles last longer.
Side quest were G o o d [Good] but i wanted more of them
Characters had stong personalities and their voice actors were marvelous
Would have liked some of the old features from fable 1 to be in the game such as hotkeys and armour

well the main quests had a little meat in them but most of them and the side quest seemed empty. just like oblivion it was just go fetch this or go do this and thats it...the rewards were shallow and didnt merge themselves to the game just filler.(side quests) who want to go and do a side quest just to get 500 gold when you have millions already. the money system made most of the side quest just useless. where are my G o o d [Good] prizes like a G o o d [Good] weapon, clotheing, anything that has substance? our dog is for fetching not the hero. why not make even sidequests a little epic and fun and rewarding and have a little more than just gaining gold or a little renown for it. so i would have to say the main quests are the best.  and by the way im still wanting one of those "pub game codes". please oh pretty please.

Filled the survey.  I'd say the main problem in my eyes is that most enemies are just no challenge.  Once you master melee combat or get even one level-4 spell, the scariest of fable1 monsters(the balverines), go down in one hit.  It just doesn't strike me as a G o o d [Good] method of battle.  I think this game could be best improved by changing the enemies abilities and movements. Just my thought on the matter.  I am also still in search of a pub games code if you can find it in your heart to provide.  Smily [:)]

A few things that I really enjoyed that isn't on the survey was the Real Estate Tycoon part of the game. I'd get excited every time I'd see a new house for sale or see the rent money pop up on my screen.

Also The Achievements were really well done. They were enjoyable to get instead of being a chore and you had some for both side G o o d [Good]/E v i l [Evil] to make me want to replay the game to see what's different.

Being able to buy the potions to raise my stats to buy new upgrade for my Character. THANK YOU for not making me grind for hours just to get a new Will power, better shooting or strength.

I can say I wasn't bored for any time playing the game. Though the dungeons could have been better. The side quest Dungeons I found more of a challenge then the game ones.

I'm looking forward to some more DLC adventures.

Core quests.. well I didn't really like any of them a hell of a lot, preferred just doing them and not thinking about it, you know, following the golden trail. Side quests however, were very enjoyable. The brightwood farm one was nice, both of em I must say, simple, but nice. And the Max and Sam quests were awesome. The family quests were really nice, but I didn't really feel any emotion to my family, because my tv has really bad sound and the screen is not able to show Fable 2 completely. I couldn't read any of the texts in the upper part of the screen and such. Favourite enemies by far the Hollow Men, since they reminded me of the undead in Fable 1, which I liked alot more than any enemy in any other game. Characters: Garth.

The monsters were well designed (the hobs are well done especially) but over all average in a fight. Only Great was chesty. And next time please make the last quest actually feel like the last quest (aka epic).

Did the survey.  Glad to do it.  I think there is so much more that can be done with Albion.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the game.  Very entertaining, and continues to be so even after the main storyline is over.

Since we seem to be collecting general observations here...

- I was a little disappointed in the main quest line.  Imaginative, definitely, but I was hoping to have a little more thinking involved.  I seem to recall there being more puzzles in the original game as opposed to "go and fetch" tasks.  I agree with others that it didn't feel particularly "epic"

- The side quests were G o o d [Good].  Chesty was inspired.  A series of quests where you sleep in that bed and you get new challenges over time would be awesome!

- The writing was excellent!   The descriptions of some of the items were really clever and funny.

- I noticed that if you play a female hero (yeah, I did... I admit it), your chances of finding a decent-looking guy to wed are slim indeed.  I mean, really...  the female NPCs have a load of fair-to-G o o d [Good] looking characters to choose from, but the NPC males are really rather lacking.

- On a similar note: I'm cool with the female hero having a more realistic bustline, but she's a HERO.  She should at least have some abs to show off.

- The side quests that had some recurring characters like Sam/Max, Barnum, etc., made the quests a little more fun because you got to be a little more involved in the NPCs and their "lives" (so to speak).

- Having the bounty hunts and slave rescues level up with your character would be G o o d [Good].

- The placements of the enemies in the various areas becomes seriously predictable (the Hobbes "ambush" when you enter Westcliff is now just a blip in the journey).  Be nice if they were more random... felt like the encounters were more random in the first game.

- The changes in the Trolls were G o o d [Good], making the fight a little more challenging.

- The Archeologist quest, even though it was a "fetch" quest, did make you work a bit in trying to figure out where the clues were trying to lead you.  I liked that your dog would help you once you got in the general vicinity of the item.

- And can we get a dog back?  Come on.  That was the only dog in ALL of Albion?

I like that you ask about woodcutting, bar tending, and blacksmithing as if they were different. They are all the same, simple, boring mini-game. The same mini-game used to interact with villagers.

Also, do you feel ashamed when you see the list of enemy characters and realize how short it is? I think that the original Galaga arcade game had more variety in enemy characters.

The whole game suffers from a lack of variety and passion.

I liked any quest involving a banshee or a Troll cause at least those mobs gave some challenge. Balverine were the best in Fable 1 but in 2 really got nerved down. I liked them in the Chesty World tho there they looked more of a challenge  but maybe that was because of your own size in there.

The thought the core quests were fun but I would have liked more of them. They didn't feel as epic as the quests from the first. I liked doing alot of side quests that had humor to them. I'd say my favorite was Hammer, Garth, Theresa, and the dog. All great npcs with interesting personalities and unique appearance and clothes. You can tell Lionhead worked hard on their quest npcs.

But as for all the other npcs, it looks like they took the same random generator concept as Sims 2 with the same results. Lots of ugly people with the same basic three hairstyles. Honestly, if the main characters has all those styles, why don't the npcs have them to?

The only memorable creatures were the Balverines (a pain as always to fight in groups. =D), the Trolls (love the new concept for killing a troll), and the Banshees. I LOVED the banshees. They were awesome looking, and I love how they whisper things to your character as you fight. That was just awesome.

As for quests, the main storyline was G o o d [Good], but the only strong points to me where The Spire and Escaping the Spire. That had a much bigger effect on me then the rest of the story. The ending was WAY to easy. Come on...all you have to do is use a music box? Where's the epic, hard boss battles? Those spire shards are harder then Lucien. xD

I also think they should have fixed the game so you can finish quests without the dog. Otherwise, it leaves the final three choices pretty easy, as you need the dog if you want to finish quests so you're obvious choice is Love. Not that difficult of a struggle, there. <.<

My last suggestion would be that the Blind Date quest allows you the choice of dating Gile's son/daughter. Seems silly to not have that choice present if you can marry Lady Grey or marry Alex.

The 3 heroes really added character to the game; they provided a memorable experience for me while playing fable 2.  I love rich historical detail in main characters and the land as well (I love the story behind Waithmarch and Reaver).

I also like how fear was used this time around (Sleepy Hollow, Terry Porter's Farm, Warithmarch) it adds to the emotion of the game.  However, I would like to have the fear of death to be more evident for the main character and possibliy your dog and family.

All in all this was a GREAT and orignal game but there is still room for improvment.

Aside from the dog, I think Hammer is probably the only "great" character in the game. The amount of time you actually spend with her, and her constant rambling (Which I loved) really flesh her out as a character. She has her motivations and goals, so it's not just a "Hey, join me in my awesome quest!" "Yeah, okay!" sort of thing.
Garth and Reaver suffer from the unfortunate all-to-common RPG problem of a character just feeling kind of tacked on, and you never really develop any sort of connection to them. It would have been nice if you had a quest or two where you spent a decent amount of time with them. Hopefully that can be addressed in some future DLC.

Completed the survey.  I thought the main/core quests were the best ones, followed by the unique side quests (family related, Chesty, etc...) that didn't merely involve killing a bunch of bandits/hollow men/hobbes for the sake of killing them.  On the whole though, many of the quests felt rushed/underdeveloped.  I liked the Alex quest...I wish there had been more unique characters/quests to get a spouse, as it would give them more of a personality/story.  As someone else mentioned, I liked how fear was used in the quests and in the world in general, as it added more atmosphere and emotion.

As with the first game, I felt that in Fable 2 the main story and especially the characters were the best aspects.  The characters had a lot of depth and personality.  The main story left a lot of things unanswered, but I suppose nowadays, that's become the point of DLC (much to my dismay...).

...and of course, I have to ask: may I please have a code for pub games?

I understand that we are going back in to the world after the fact so we cant go being a savior and dieing to save the world. but I never even felt avenged.

Hell by the end I was more upset with Rever then Lucian.

after i beat the game it doesnt seem as fun since i know there really isn't any story i can advance in, thats why i like long storylines. the last game i played before this was GTA IV. that game was at least 4 times as long a storyline.

not only that, but i'm sure the first fable was also much longer. I loved it when I got the Lost Chapters and i found out i had to fight the last guy twice. in fable 2 you don't fight him, you just shoot him off his stand (or Reaver does) and I didn't get the feel of accomplishment like i did in the first game.

Oh well, thats my opinion

1) The opening quest is *great* the first time around, but for subsequent playthroughs it really is just a pain in the ass. The ability to skip it would be most welcome. I find this, more than anything, discourages replay. I don't want to go through it again and again and again.

2) Jobs -- they are tedious, and compared to trading wisely or renting out realestate, they pay very poorly.  I found them an annoying achievement to get rather than a fun diversion from slaughter. If not for achievements, I wouldn't have bothered past level 3 or 4 with any of them.

3) Blackmail/Bigamy Blackmail -- This was a great addition, but there are only two ways out that I could find.  What about snubbing the messenger (or torture!) and tracking down the blackmailer?  I want to tell him to mind his own business, personally. With the business end of my rifle.

4) The crucible revisited - this is GREAT but... like the original Fable, can't be replayed. Ok, It can. Sort of.  But if you get all perfect rounds, to gain the epic weapon, you'd better not do that again.  It locks up your character permanantly.  Fix that and you can change my opinion of this quest to GREAT. I love the arena. But being proficient at it is bad, apparently.

The beginning really drew me in, and had a lot of fun to start, but this game kind of plays like the fish eating games where you grow larger as you eat more fish, it gets to a point where there's no fish bigger then you and it gets very boring.

Once you buy a sufficient amount of property you're set, and pump up raise dead a couple notches you have G o o d [Good] cannon fodder to make any battle easy. I wish there was more variety to the battles, the enemies could be taken out the same way over and over, no variety needed (I changed my attack pattern to level up not out of necessity). The variety of enemies were nice, but if they can all be taken out the same way they lose their distinct nature. I really love the banshee because of her dialogue more then anything else.

Once I left Oakfield everything felt like filler (core and side quests, all could be completed in 10-15 min spurts). There was no real fire to keep me playing. I played to see how it would finish up (and achievements). The end left me empty, no real sense of accomplishment. It was more like reading a book then playing a game, it's a G o o d [Good] book, but still a book.

There are a variety of characters, but none are fleshed out. I wish there were more side quests with them, maybe to see how they develop and what not. I like Reaver's quirky wit, and he has a great back story that you get right away doing his quests (really love how he finished the game for me as well lol), but nothing about Hammer (her being so mannish does take away some of my empathy for her) or Garth really stood out story wise.

I really loved Fable one, and wanted to really dive into Fable 2. The abbot quest took me out for almost a month until I felt like doing all the pub games for my second character.

Sorry for the wall of text,
G o o d [Good] game, just didn't entrance me

I definitely enjoyed the game and think it was a great improvement over the first.

My biggest issues with the game were at times it really lacked life in the wilderness.  I spent a G o o d [Good] 30 minutes exploring the world trying to find things to do.  Would be great if more dynamic random things happened that you could interact with.

The second biggest issue is the map.  One of the worst map systems I've ever seen in a game.  It took me a long time to get a "feal" of the world.  Where things were in relation to each other.  It felt like a game bunch of connected random maps instead of a living world.  I don't understand the design decision to not have 1 massive map of the entire world you can move around and explore.  Currently just having a tiny map of the region you're in that you can't zoom in on was a big problem.

Lastly it would be nice to have a bit more ability to communicate with other people in the world other than gestures.  Finding a way to integrate a more detailed communication system like Mass Effect has and having it work with the gestures could add a lot of depth to the game.

I must say I loved almost all the NPC's. Except lucien mostly because of the end of the game (or lack there of). I hated Reaver, which just means that Lionhead did their job. Hammer was probably the one I was least attached to, mostly cuz she just would not shut up! I have to agree the money system in this game is flawed and makes digging, most the silver chests, and some side missions pointless. Though it seems like either people are desprete for money or have tons of it. Most the quests were fine. I must say pretty much all the bad guys were way to easy. Once you learn headshots almost everything dies in one hit. Balverines, Bandits, Hobbes, (Spire) Guards. Near the end I almost wanted to switch to a crappy weapon just so I didn't kill everything in one hit/shot. Also you guys absolutely ruined the trolls. And seriously whose idea was it to make so you only fight ONE earth troll and ONE Swamp troll. I've never seen a bounty hunter mission involving a troll and I did my fair share of bounty hunter missions. Infact I did them just to get to fight trolls, but eventually gave up due to them never coming. I shouldn't have to kill an entire town worth of people just to fight a troll. I feel many, if not most parts of this game were a step back from Fable 1.

Although I commented, I had to agree. The ending left me feeling empty, with no feelings of accomplishment. And I to wanted to slap Reaver more then Lucien. Actually, Lucien was a very flat character all around. He had the backstory, but it just didn't come into play. And the gathering of three heroes to power the fourth and kill Lucien? Here I get this power, I get shot, and I run around in paradise for a bit before pulling a music box on the enemy? Hell, even shooting Lucien before Reaver could didn't make me feel like I'd gotten anywhere.

And I feel like...somewhere in the process...the girl gamers (though small, yes), were forgotten.

Environment Graphics - better then Fable
Character Graphics - aside from important npcs, worse then Fable
Story - G o o d [Good] at start, but ended worse then Fable's story (which kept strong till the end)
Plot Twist - none...cept the dog...but we all saw that coming.

And I miss my big battles. Come on. Everyone here can remember the White Balverine or the Hydra battles in Fable. But when I think of Fable II...all I can think of is the small battle with the Banshee. Fable II definately had less variety of creatures. *sigh*

Still G o o d [Good] game, but I hope to see a lot more in the future. ^^

I thought teh main quest was G o o d [Good] in general, but couldn't there have been a better way to orient us to Bowerstone then Theresa arriving late? I mean, I know that it was setting us up to have reasons to distrust her later, but it was really quite boring. the enemies were too weak - master hollow men were actually some of the strongest, more then balverines, which confuses me - but my favourites were hollow men and trolls. it was G o o d [Good] actually having to think while I killed a lump of intelligent rock. bahsnees were fun too, but relatively glitchy - I pushed one through a cave wall once, and had to use area effect spells to kill it.

as for characters...definitely chesty. funny and creepy at the same time, even without dialogue...very cool.

Can't give you an honest survey since I can not get into brightwoods at all anymore on my main quest save file due to your glitched up game.  I wish I could take this game back and get my money back from the store.  I mean if I bought a brand new car and found out that after driving it 150 miles that I could not roll the windows down, play music and drive outside my city limits, I would be filing a law suit.  If I bought a microwave and found out that I can not use the defrost setting I would take it back.  If I bought a pizza and found out that I only got toppings to cover 3/4 of the pizza I would be mad.  Come on this is horrible that you released this game in this condition.  Fix the bugs.

I'm afraid I can't answer you, as I got stuck at the Abbot bug.  I started the game last night, saw a patch, and prayed I could continue my game..

Anyway, if it helps, here's some info:
When the Abbot bug hit me, they were talking before I entered the building, and I didn't know it was the abbot thing.  So I got stuck there.  Previously, when I loaded back near the temple he was in, my character would run very slow until I went into that temple and exited.

Now, the slowdown has gone there, so I move normally... But the abbot, of course, is not yet talking to me so I can continue my game.  The other thing to tell you is that I'm getting a message at the top of the screen telling me I can move around furniture, and that's there unless another message (like info on a person you pressed L Trigger on) pops up.

Is there any way that these game stopping bugs can be fixed?  This one's pretty popular, if I understand.

Thanks.

Although on the other hand you have the kick a** Garth who is an amazing will user and the cool but slightly weird hammer who is basically a steroid freak lol

I like the Balverines as long as they're not cutting me up.

I have little to complain about anything in the game actually, only two things kinda irked me:

The "ending".

Secondly. Hammer.

At first, I'll be honest and say I liked her. Her curiosity and everything about her when you first meet made her a welcomed companion. However, at the end of the monk quest when a monk enters that final chamber and says something is going on at the temple, she turns into some kind of angst filled comic book character.

The anger is well in its place, but some of her lines aren't. I thought they were cheesy and annoying. Or maybe she was always that way.

" Call me...Hammer."

"Now you know why they call me Hammer" Stick out tongue [:P]

Awsomeness! Surveys ftw!
But regarding the game in general it still feels incomplete.. For some reason..
The game was nicely composed but it ran abit short to be honest.
To the extent of that even Fable: The Lost Chapters feelt bigger in away.
Most of a let down was the E v i l [Evil]/G o o d [Good] looks. Would be awsome to have looked like the E v i l [Evil] avatar of the desktop background i have.. but i guess that was mayby the ide from the start.. but.. still.. basicly one of the reasons i bought the game was due to i was hyped over the choices of how you were supposed to customise your char or rather the built up hype of it before the rls... but.. no..
Game in general was fun tho.. most side quests were awsome some main quests were to.. just sad that the main quest feels shorter than the main quest in fable one feelt.. Have to dust that game of and compare..

But still an aok gaming experiance but with alot of bugs.. or something...
Its like playing a beta from time to time.. and i payed around 80£ for that.. ehum.

But dont get me wrong, i love the game and i can understand that we will see alot of overpriced DLC's in the future to sort of give us that extra content to make it feel more like a full game.. Like most devs out there sadly do nowdays. T_T

Personally, I couldn't stand Reaver and wanted to be able to kill him.
I was surprised at a few things, for example on one particular quest your character was supposed to be fooled by someone (not in Bloodstone). The second time I played the game, I wasn't putting up with it and I shot the person ahead of time. I was surprised that the game had programming in it to handle that event rather then ignoring it. I was disappointed that I couldn't kill/sacrifice the E v i l [Evil] monks. It was disappointing when you could stand there shooting them in the head and they would just say "I say!"

I also did not like the jobs that were in the game. Besides the assassin ones or others where you actually went out and did something, all you do in the jobs is press A over and over and over again, and in the right spot. They would have been more fun or challenging if maybe there was more to them than just the A. maybe moving to different spots, or different combinations of buttons.

I also feel that the side quests were there just to make more things for us to do. like trying to divert us from the short storyline.
The side quests also sort of disappointed me. They should have been built on more, like each sidequest having it's own storyline. Take the game Oblivion for example. in that game there were many, many sidequests. There were also a few big sidequests that had very long storylines, some almost as long as the main storyline. With those it took me forever to actually finish the storyline because there were so many things i could do.

I would also like to point out all the dungeons and most of the places where there was something to get or do. They were all almost the same, and were pretty easy. they were not all exactly the same, but basically you do the same thing in every single one.

I was very disappointed with how the game finally turned out. I had been literally counting down the days for 5 months. And i pretty much did everything in the game within a week, only playing for about 2 or 3 hours every other day.

I am saying all this because I have been wanting to, and i figured this was a G o o d [Good] blog to say it all on.

There are a few other things that disappoint me, but i thing i have criticized enough with this post and my last post.

ok, i cant help it, i need to say more.

First off, the cutscenes. I really liked the idea at first about how you could interact with them, or skip them by walking away or something like that, but later i really started to dislike it. I was starting to miss the fact that the camera would go in close to people, even my own character who i dont see at any scenes but the ones i cant interact with. and even though there was the ability to look at interesting thing with LT i still didn't feel any of the dramatic effects that the first game gave me.

Also i didn't like the enemies as much. I don't really know what to say about them, but they didn't feel the same, in a bad way, as they did in the first Fable game.

I also didn't like that you could just get quests and upgrade yourself from the pause screen. I know some people like it because they don't have to go somewhere to get the quest, but that made it more fun and believable i think, and made it not as easy, as in now i can upgrade myself while i am in the middle of a battle. that just doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, now i'm going to shut up now, even though there is more i would like to say...

Balverines were ok. They did alot of damage, but were rather easy to kill seeing how they can't block, and they only dodge once before they die.

I wish some of the side quests had more characters and back stories to them. I liked the back stories on some of the quests like Lady Grey in Fable The Lost Chapters. I think side quests should all be of similar writing quality. Less of the random go here and kill random bandit Thag quests. Add story to the quests. Say you met the most beautiful girl in Albion, and she is really charming. She just wants to find a stellar guy. Right before you go out on your first date you find out Thag is her bad ex-boyfriend, and he steals her away from you and locks her up. You track Thag down and find him abusing her. You then kill the surrounding bandits and make your way to the climactic boss fight involving Thag. After killind Thag you release your girlfriend and the most shocking thing happens! A killer twist! She no longer wants to be you girlfriend. In fact, she's done with men entirely. She decides to try out girls and moves to lesbian, nudist, camp far away.

First of all, great game, I enjoyed it twice and encountered a single glitch (marital home). So except for the LCE problem(s), I'm a happy customer/gamer.
One of my few concerns' the fact that "E v i l [Evil]" quests are more fun than the "G o o d [Good]" ones. I mean Sacrifice Minigame VS Donate Money... Is being G o o d [Good] supposed to be so boring? Second, I hated to watch a particularly appreciated side character being murdered (won't spoile, but as a clue it accured in a mansion reaching the end of the game) without been given the opportunity to at least avenge him. And third and last concern, the Crucible shouldn't be a core quest.

Couple of things I didn't like about the side quests (Archaelogist in particular) was the constant running back and forth to get a quest update:
Get artifact
Go back to Belle (I think that's what her name was)
Get another artifact
Back to Belle
Artifact
Belle

And so on. If it  was used to lengthen the quest than I guess it worked, but it's not the way it should be done. Annoying the player isn't the greatest of ideas, considering the reward for all the running around. Try increasing the difficulty it takes to get the artifact (Have a temple or something with traps and minigames to unlock the chest) or increasing the number of artifacts. Just an idea.

Also, those quests which you can never complete (Donating to the light, Crucibe) are annoying. It distacts from the G o o d [Good] feeling of having done everything when you remember the game's still telling you there's a quest which you've technically finished but haven't.

Never played the first, but I would occasionally look over my roommates shoulder while he was.

I've only just started in the last couple days but I find it to be great. Questing is G o o d [Good] so far, seems to me that there are a lot of side things that you can do but seem to be shallow, like marriage.

I'll save my survey taking for after I finish, but so far I give the game 6 and a half thumbs up, or 8.5 Richard Nixon's, which of course is the standard galactic unit of measurement.

The main story line was vivd, but short... also the end of the game was just RANK. Like seriously, the ending was horrid. The choice part is awsome but the fact that you have to just shoot Lucien once is BAD (you dont even have to shoot him actually...Reaver will take a stand if you don't).

The side quests were ok. Obviously they shouldn't be amazing though or it would take away from the epicness of the main story line.

The characters were the best part of the game to me. They really did make the game. Your faitfull companion (the dog) was an excellent idea. The art work and lighting effects were great. My personal favourite was the banshee's (they looked ominous and had a black ora- intimidating and scary)

p.s.- Could I have a Fable II Pub Games code please? One can not achieve a perfect gamerscore in the game without that arcade game.

p.s.s.- Isn't there a microsoft rule that you have to be able to get 1000/1000 on a retail game without having to purchase any other content?

I thought the game was pretty G o o d [Good], but there were a few this that irked me, like that unblockable multi-swiping attack that the Balvarines do, the huge glitch in "The Rescue" (where your kid becomes unresponsive outside the Hobbe Cave and you cant finish the quest),  and eaver.  My god he was a terrible character heh.

Also, more save options and a better end level would have been nice.

It's still a G o o d [Good] game though

I have to agree with Ztalx in that Reaver and Garth weren't developed enough. Reaver was so interesting, but his appearance was extremely limited. Hammer ended up being the only main character I actually cared about. I also liked Barnum throughout the game. His death was a love/hate thing because I really loved him, but his death was G o o d [Good] in that it brought out a lot of emotion ( something the rest of the game lacked.)

It would have been interesting to see some of the other people met during childhood later in the game. How did the bully turn out? The drunk? The couple?

Also, the family feature lacks depth. Something has to be done to actually create feeling for them. Perhaps greater customization next time around such as clothing and hairstyle.

Finally, the money system needs adjustments. My suggestion is that you change prices, and you make the income for every 5 minutes of time WHILE PLAYING THE GAME.

Overall I enjoyed the game, though. Played through 3 times already.

For the most part I enjoyed this game, and am still enjoying it from time to time, but there are several major issues that have to be considered carefully.

Let us start at the end.  The final "battle"... (I won't spoil it for those of you that haven't gotten there yet.)  Anyone that has ever watched a movie knows that last thing you experience will be the feeling you are left with when you walk out of the theater or turn off the DVD player.  Is this really what Lionhead meant to leave us with?  After all that talk about the emotion they wanted to convey to the gamers, they leave so much to desire.
The solution is obvious here, I know Lionhead can think of something a bit more compelling.

Another concern of mine is the rewards/treasures.  One cannot help but feel cheated upon completion of the archaeologist quests, (just as one huge example.)  Also, necklaces DO NOT belong in treasure chest unless they are accompanied by other valuable items, especially if you have an entire cave or dungeon dedicated to the chest.  (It really takes the excitement out of finding chests.)
Perhaps they could allow access to new dungeons or small villages upon completion of certain side quests, ESPECIALLY the archaeologist quest!!!

Third on my list is the lack of interaction your 'hero' has with the environment.  In Fable 1 your hero tips back a bottle when he drinks.  This is a simple but effective means of making the player feel a bit more in-the-moment and connected to the character.  No hot key, thus forcing you to constantly pull up your expression wheel, which takes you out of the moment.  The expression wheel is G o o d [Good], but it should be accompanied by the ability to assign them to your hot key.  It is vital to any compelling story that you not take your audience out of the moment.  This is also done by forcing you to go to your menu to read books to gain expressions.  I think the mere act of acquiring the book should be enough.  Simple things like being able to sit in a chair, pet your dog, or tip back a bottle when you drink, can only help in making this game more engaging.  I could go on about this but I think I have already made a valid point here.

Clothing...  I am well aware that Lionhead took steps to ensure that nobody would favor one type of clothing over another due to the armor rating, and that is a great first step.  In doing so they automatically place all the emphasis on the design of the clothing.  (to be fair i will leave my biased opinion of their designs out of this comment.)   I am glad that the clothes can be dyed, that is the right direction to go in.  That we can all agree on, but the severely limited number of outfits came as a huge shock to me, especially given this new emphasis on character customization.  A suggestion for later installments: add an 'accessories' category, one that includes things like capes, cloaks, belts, weapon holsters, etc., to give our hero a more custom or original feel, that's what most gamers want.

Finally I want to cover a few gameplay issues that can make or break a game.

Character obstacles.  One cannot help but notice... the dog gets in the way (as well as the NPCs.)  There are few things more annoying when wandering the narrow passageways of a cave, than your dog becoming an obstacle.  I found myself cursing my dog, which nullifies caring about him.  I would have preferred being able to walk through him, or easily nudge him out of the way.  The same goes with crowds of uninvited villagers blocking the stairs to your own house.  It's annoying, bottom line.

No stealth.  I understand, that in Fable 1, sneaking was really only G o o d [Good] for one mission.  Fair enough.  With this in mind though, this could have been incorporated into Fable 2 beautifully.  Who reading this doesn't agree that it would be absolutely fantastic to have a stealth kill?  I also enjoyed picking locks and stealing items from the shelves.  Again, it was a great way to get you more involved in the world of Fable.  I find I do not feel as connected to the Albion of Fable 2 as I was to the original.  Despite their beautiful design, the regions of Fable 2 feel somewhat empty, or lacking.  I feel a distinct disconnection from my character and I feel like I am a stranger in Albion.  Subtle details make all the difference.

I could go on and on about how to improve this game, but then again so can many of us.  I Love this game, it has great potential, but lets not forget the simple things that made Fable 1 such a success.  Keep the criticism constructive and we might actually be of some use to Lionhead.  It's easy to gripe about the glitches and all the hype, but perhaps we should give some careful thought to the potential of this innovative and unique game.  Though a bit disappointed, I have not given up hope for a better Fable.

I agree that there should have been more boss creatures.  The bounty hunter/community service quests should be more varied as well. They were way too easy and a pain because they're always days away from whoever gave the quest. More clothing types too, I'm still mad there wasn't any more to the assassin coat. Sure there's lots of clothing but most of it I'll never even use, like the pauper
outfit or the ranger outfit because it makes my character look fat. Speaking of wich, why does increasing physique and toughness make me look fatter more than mucular? Not so bad on male characters but on female characters it looks like Olga the Austrian bodybuilder (no offense). I don't want my female character to look like Hammer but the only way is to never increase strength stats. Anyway it's still an awesome game and I'm on my third run through straight. Filled out the questionaire too. Would be nice to be able to play Pub Games though... (hint hint)

I thought that ALL of the quests were G o o d [Good], some were just more fleshed out than others. I have to admit though, Peter really did get me with that damn dog. I love him so much.
Also, some of the enemy design revamps worked out G o o d [Good], others not so much.
We really dont need more huge bugs to fight off as a first enemy. There should be something a little more original.
Anyways, took the survey.
Great game, see you all in Albion!

(A pub-games code would be nice <.<Wink [;)]

some elements of the game were amusing, but mostly, the game bored me to tears, it was all basic fetch or kill this missions, with absolutely no changes. the characters were mostly boring, (save Hammer and Reaver) and the enemies were just...bland, we have seen them all before, except banshees.

there is no challenge in this game, no emotion, nothing.

Personally, I'm much happier that I traded it in for fallout 3, a game with REAL choices to make, and REAL repurcussions for those choices, oh, and it's TRUE sand box.

Fable 2 is nothing but a cow pie painted a pretty color, and then lied about in order to sell it.

I like the update to the fighting system, but the core and side quests were all very average if not downright boring.  Also, I thought the glowing trail was more annoying than anything.  It made the game one long "follow the dotted line" event where you didn't have to really think about anything.  Fortunately you can turn it off.

Overall, I liked some of the game play elements, that being how the player interacts with the world (though I would've liked it if you could REALLY go anywhere that you could see...), but I was thoroughly disappointed by the quests, jobs, and consequences of your actions.  I slaughtered 104 unarmed civilians and my fine was a measly 2000 gold or so.  Of course I opted for the community service which was even more ridiculous: kill a troll.

Talk about a slap on the wrist.

It would've been interesting if, on being caught by the guards, you were sentenced to death or something.  I mean hell, I just buzz-sawed through over 100 people!  Crazy!

I think Fable II is an interesting use of the current level of gaming tech (though a more stable release would've been nice... it took me over a week to figure out how to make my XBox play the game!) but more imagination would've been nice.  Too much effort was spent on making it look nice (and it did like nice--when it worked) and not enough energy was invested in telling the story in a way that made the player care about it.  I enjoyed the first Fable immensely and was ready to enjoy the second.  Too bad it didn't work out that way.

Most of what I thought of has already been said. I wish there had been more unique characters/quests to get a spouse, especially since I got glitched out of my undead zombie wife. :/

Jobs, weren’t that great… my only real complaint was that they all were basically the same.

“Blackmail/Bigamy Blackmail -- This was a great addition, but there are only two ways out that I could find.  What about snubbing the messenger (or torture!) and tracking down the blackmailer?  I want to tell him to mind his own business, personally. With the business end of my rifle.”

^ My sentiments exactly, except with me it was the business end of my cutlass.

And in regards to the enemies, Balverines were pretty weak, much easier than the first game. Slash-slash-slash, Balverine jumps off screen, charge and release a flourish behind you  (always behind you)= Dead Balverine

The Abbots Quest is my favorite!  Its SO lifelike cause he just stands there ignoring me like a real abbot would lol!  I just take his body language to mean 'Explore Oakvale some more cause I'm just not ready to talk to you yet!'  And we laugh and laugh haha!

Sometimes I have to wonder that, it is a little strange how the people of Oakvale never change or never say anything new...  Its like the town is stuck in some sort of weird time shift or something.  All the same people saying the same things all the time, and that Abbot.  Boy does he know how to give the cold shoulder...  I don't know, it feels...  you're going to think I'm crazy but... it feels sort of like I'm in  purgatory or something...  Like I'm being punished by the Fable 2 gods who say 'NO YOU MUST NEVER LEAVE OAKVALE AGAIN!!!!  SUFFER TRANSGRESSOR!!!!!'

Ha, its foolish I know lol!  Oh well, back to circling Oakvale for the hundredth time hehehehe Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D]!

I think they shouldve kept armor like plate and chainmail and allowed you to get the Sword of Aeons somehow (or at least some sort of really nice, fast, strong, HUGE weapon like it). The core quests need to be longer and have more to it because it's like go there, or get this, or kill this. There should definetely be more side quests. The Demon door and the 50 key chest in Fairfax Castle need to hold something better than just 50,000 gold because you had to pay more than a million for the castle just to get to the chest, seems like a waste of time for me. Plus the enemies need to be a LOT harder, I can kill pretty much anything without even gettin hurt... including trolls. I also have collected all the legendary weapons in the game TWICE without buyin them from other players online. It would also be better if there was more of a connection with the first Fable. This game does have a lot of potential, though.
