GDC Synopsis

Published Monday, March 30, 2009 12:12 PM by Woody
With this year’s GDC in San Francisco over and done with I’ve collected a few articles and video-interviews about Lionhead's presentations.

We start of with an interview Peter gave to Gamespot - ...gdc-2009-interview-with-peter-molyneux-fable-2-post-mortum-the-future-of-the-gaming-industry-and-the-economy – which gives you a G o o d [Good] summary of what this GDC meant for Lionhead and our games.

Apparently Peter almost had a slip of the tongue and mentioned some spicy details about our ‘Project X’ - as it’s called in the press – while he was giving his presentation about innovation; http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/03/28/gdc09_molyneux_session/.

Peter would do best to keep his mouth closed, hyped Fable 1 to hell then did the same thing with Fable 2 and for a next gen there was nothing next gen about it other than tons and tons of bugs and glitches and problems. Yet I was able to play Fallout 3 from beginning to end with no major issues!

This secret project personally I don't care what it is, what I do care about is once its announced that Peter is going to on a hype spree and then the game comes out and half of it is missing and you have to pay for the other half.

Just like the new DLC...I bet a patch is in there so you will have to pay for a fix.

@supersaiyan5 - I have to call shenanigans on ya about Fallout 3 not having no major issues. It had it's fair share as well. Try less seething and more happy thoughts. Smily [:)]

I can just picture him now talking then suddenly realising mid sentence that he would say the name of the next title if he carried on.

I'm going to have to agree with Supersaiyan5 on this although I wouldnt of brought it up myself.  Gareth quit being a fanboy.  There was plenty of stuff announced for fable 2 that was not in the game.  I remember Peter claiming that you could travel to every house in bowerstown on one of the game diaries while watching the beginning CG sequence.  We all know thats not possible.  I also remember Peter claiming a bunch of stuff regard more interface with your family in game which was not true.  I could go on but I dont want to post a wall o' text.  I liked Fable 2 for what it was but any game without a complete main story line is an Epic Fail.  And I'm sorry but its even more of an Epic Fail if you have to purchase the rest of the game in installments.  I don't care how much of a fanboy you are that robbery either way.  But people will pay for it im sure.  I just know better than to buy Lionhead games right off the bat anymore.  I will wait for player reveiws because after all 10 player reveiws tell me more about a game than any paid major site review.  Sorry to flame you Lionhead but you guys really upset me with Fable 2's lack of game content and broken promises.

Hmm, the Kumo link doesnt work for me..

At the others: Dont forget that Peter said his times of overhyping stuff are gone. He now just talks about stuff he is able to show and about stuff that will be in a game.

And I don't think PM tries to hype things, he just gets excited about his work and wants to share his excitement and hopes for the projects.

It was interesting.  I followed the GDC on Saturday and it's amazing to see how much work goes into a game.  I'm no programmer and i did not realise how complicated it can be, so hat's off to those that do it, not just at Lionhead but at the other companise too. As for fable 2, it was pretty well done, and of course, it will disappoint a few.  I played Fable 1 right at the start only because one of my friends who knew about PM through Black and White told me too, so I tried and and I was hooked.  I waited for years for Fable 2 and was really happy to see it come out.  True, it's a bit short and some stuff was not included, but what annoys me is a lot of kids on here that just keep whinging ang and whining about how bad it is. I think it's a great game, maybe not a classic, but I'm still looking forward to what comes out of Lionhead in the future, especially Project X.  Well done chaps.

Can't wait to watch this. Seeing the Future sounds interesting to me. I enjoyed Knothole Island a lot and if that's going to be the smallest download, sign me up for more. I admit I'm digging Fallout 3 right now but I did beat Fable 2 and the KI DLC before even playing it. Getting a break from Fable 2 is making this more and more sweet. Then I'll get a break from Fallout 3 after I finish Broken Steel. I'm loving' me some Lionhead and Bethesda right now. Keep up the G o o d [Good] work LH!

-Dave

P.S. Hey, Mort, give him a break. I play Peggle for pete's sake! All of us gamers have at least one secret game we'd be ashamed of if it got out. What's yours?? =)

I don't like how they've put Peter on a leash. I'd rather he had kept his freedom to get carried away but just that he'd add that what he says might not make it into any final releases, rather than not to speak of what's in his mind at all. He's a motivator, and him talking about outlandish impossible features might not mean you get to play them anytime soon, but it does motivate. So I say let him go wild, let him talk about every feature that sprouts out of his mind. If he doesn't get it into a game perhaps someone who hears him talk about it will get inspired and make a game of it.

I was hoping we'd hear more on the new project but i guess GDC isn't meant for that kind of thing, which is kind of a shame.

Its also great to listen to what Peter has to say, most of the time its really insightful.
