Fable II Testing Interviews

Published Friday, September 26, 2008 2:20 PM by paulecoyote

Hi community,

I have not blogged on here for a little while – as you can imagine we have *all* been very busy :-)

A number of times people have asked in the forums about testing Fable II and more technical details about that process.  Well our friends in the States at Platform Biased have just done an entire podcast (a podcast is a like a radio show stored as an mp3 you can download over the web) talking about testing and some of the tools they used during the process.  Some of those tools originated here at Lionhead, some developed over the water specifically to suit their needs – but the G o o d [Good] thing is that they are useful both sides of the ocean. :-)

So Jeff Kafer of Platform Biased interviews with Patrick Barker (Test Lead), Jeff MacDermot (Project SDET), and Rick Martinez (MS Producer).  Hint to American readers / listeners… talking about Benny Hill and calling Brits governor might not be the best way to close the culture gap ;-)

Oh, and the content of the show does not necessarily reflect the official opinion of Lionhead or Microsoft.

Don't like Benny Hill, and never called the British Governor. Sounds like you talked to some strange people. Sorry.
Nice to see you Blogg again. Thanks for the info.

I listened to that a couple of days ago. G o o d [Good] podcast Up []
I took the whole "Govnah" bit to be tongue-in-cheek I hope that everyone does, as you said probably not the best way to bridge relations with our brothers across the pond Wink [;)]

Forget "govener" Why the hell do Americans think Britain is England, that really annoys me. They forget about Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Now that would close the culture gap a wee bit. (And America...You don't have a world to run, so stop saying that.)  Don't get me wrong i like Americans. :-)

But great to hear from you again, Thanks for going out of your busy time table to do this.

I have British Friends who I call Brits just for fun (thats okay because I know im a fat American who loves his guns.. lol jk about the guns).  There are always going to be culture gaps because everyone is rooting for "their team" just like in sports.  People just hate each other because they are different.  I personally love all kinds.  Besides..  at least 1/4 of me is danish anyway... Which brings up the point of what makes an American an American when we are mixes of kinds.  I think we have a lot to learn from each other.  I don't think it does any G o o d [Good] to get butt hurt though because some other cultures don't understand the difference between England and the British because that is just someone else being ignorant... not words of hate my friends Smily [:)]

I will tell you what WON'T help the gap though..  The XBOX Live Community!  I can be in a room with my British buddies and when someone else comes in the room its always "Brush your teeth" or "Would you like a crumpet?" and that S gets old fast.  But on the flip side I have had my Canadian friend Talking S to a French guy (yeah.. you know how Canadians LOVE the French in Montreal) and the French kid called the Canadian a "stupid American" which says that Americans often catch a lot of Fecal Matter (not that we don't sometimes deserve it).

oh yeah.. and great job on finishing the game!  Ive been ever so eager to play it Big Smile [:D]

America isnt a country, which is one of the biggest misonceptions abrod. when people here the word 'American' they with were all from the USA. and that is ok cuz the US is pretty cool and all.... but gaarasand if you live here... well get it right..

Acta_Sanctorum, bashing gaarasand was unnecessary.. besides.. if you're going to make an argument please take time to check your spelling and grammar to where it can be understood.  America is a continent and not a "country", yes, but we all know what Gaarasand meant just like how the British know what people mean when they say they are from "England".  People just need to get over it and focus on Fable 2.  Understanding each other and our cultural differences is nice but in order for us to get along we have to give a little and let things go.

I dunno if it was really a tactful or a professional thing for a developer to include in a conversation about how Americans treat the British (even if joking... dangerous waters to tread on a forum and a bit inappropriate).  I suppose we're all to blame for keeping the jabbering going.  Anywho..  I KNOW I WILL LOVE MY FABLE 2 GAME!  WEWT!  Gonna ask for days off at work to play it for a few days uninterrupted (Aside from the wife and kiddies of course)

The show was hilarious and listeners need to not be so sensitive about it. If Benny Hill is a common thread between our two cultures, so much the better. Keep up the G o o d [Good] work Lionhead and Platform Biased!!

Aye it is all in G o o d [Good] fun.  It is not that hard to think of comebacks for the silly things said!  The podcast is well worth subscribing too if you want some insider knowledge from a very frank and causal stance.

The blogs I post to the community here are always very Lionhead centric and other places like members of staff personal blogs, platform biased etc do provide a wider pool of info for those interested in the industry :-)

haha well thats G o o d [Good] to know that people weren't actually insulted by the jokes..  I had the impression they actually cared.  Oh and paul.. Americans are EASY to make fun of Stick out tongue [:P]  Around 5:00am on XBOX live I get made fun of for being American in almost every room i go in on Call of Duty 4.  In fact I do believe my friends are responsible for a lot of that too haha!  Thanks again for the updates man
