Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
The whole heavy metal trailer put me off... well it was mainly the how ostentatious the trailers were that put me off. The whole yeah we have Blood, Sex and heavy metal to impress the mature adult audience just came off as a little to pretentious and kitschy for my liking.
What actually won me over were the Origin trailers, I watched each one and they all looked like they had an impressive story set up from them. The kind of story that I just want to play. The fighting actually looks ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) and the gore just give's it an extra humph to it, the blood that spills out of every wound though seems a times a little over the top(Judging from the trailers) does make the hit's look much more painful then just having a white little flash and a number over the head.
I really can't wait for this game.. I've even borrowed £55 of my brother for the release date so I can get the special edition.
"IrishMorn" If Adon and Sagat step in....ah, what the hell, I'll get drunk and join in on that one.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I know I'm double posting here (Sorry but the edit ran out) but I'm going to pre-order Dragon Age tomorrow online, Just got a visa bank card last week and I realise I can purchase things online. I haven't got any money in yet but I will transfer some in tomorrow afternoon. See I have never ordered online, I've had others do it for me but never done it my self. I just want to know what peoples experience are of ordering online.
I'm doing this as a way to secure a pre-order of the Collectors edition of the game.. with the bonus case and extra content. I will try and pre-order straight from the shops so I don't have to do this tomorrow however I don't know how successful that may be.
So would you recommend ordering it online?...have you order game online before and how successful was it?.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
Well I'm set to going with Game as they are the one's that are offering the special addition. You can also pick it up at the store so the mail strike isn't going to affect it's delivery.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
Gamespot's reviewed it for all 3 systems now - perhaps predicatably, according to them the PC version is the system of choice. their ratings of the three;
PC - 9.5/10
PS3 - 9.0/10
Xbox360 - 8.5/10
r.e the differences;
Gamespot:Dragon Age doesn't look amazing on the PC, but it's an attractive game nonetheless. Zooming from an isometric view to a third-person perspective is slick, and while environments don't hold up quite as well when viewed up close, they're consistently lovely when viewed from above.
On the flip side, the Xbox 360 version looks positively disappointing. Textures are highly compressed and colors are washed out, though the upside is that this version maintains a smoother frame rate than on the PlayStation 3, where things might get jittery when swiveling the camera around.
The PlayStation 3 version features higher-quality textures than those on the Xbox 360, better color saturation, smoother facial animations, and shorter load times. Minor visual hiccups, like corpses that disappear and reappear, are a bit more common on the PS3, however.
The PC version is the superior experience, but if you're choosing between the two console releases, the PlayStation 3 has the upper hand.
PC version the best of the three, obviously, with better graphics, character controls, interfaces etc (although the console inventory/organisational interfaces are apparently surprisingly ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) anyway...), and for some reason the final battles are apparently more challenging on PC...
EDIT - Oh, Eurogamer gave it 8/10 on PC, saying
In its desperation to infuse this setting with "maturity" - be it of the sober, political kind, or the game's painfully clumsy gore and sex - BioWare has forgotten the key ingredient of any fantasy: the fantastical. Without it, you're still left with a competent, often compelling, impressively detailed and immense RPG, but it's one that casts no spell.
Painfully clumsy gore and sex, eh? Now there's a shock
IGN gave it 9.2/10

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
Me'h never really judge games on the graphics... to me there only a small part of the experience... I can forgive bad graphics in place of ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) story and gameplay.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
So apparently my friend has a PC and 360 copy of Dragon Age three days before official (UK) release, while I sit here wondering if my preorder from Gameplay will come at all because of the postal strikes.
For some reason Birdo clearly has the voice of a Japanese man in this trailer. It's like... eating a cake. You expect the cake to be delicious, but when you bite into it, it sounds like a Japanese man. See what I'm trying to say here?

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I think the only real negative thing I've heard that I care about in this game is the fact that your character won't physically speak. I would have thought they'd had learned from Mass Effect how well you character having a voice worked out. In Mass Effect it gave the game a more cinematic feel... The dialogue bouncing from your character to the other added a lot of chemistry to the game, the fact that Garret (name of my Mass Effect character) would move and do physical action while talking made the game feel more real and smooth. In this game your just going to be stood still and playing the silent protagonist. I mean they can't win with the whole arguement of "We didn't put voiced dialogue because we thought the player should imagine the voice of there character" cause they give you the choice of a voice.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I heard it already has something like $20 in dlc. I love dlc but not dlc that is intentionally left out at the beginning. I hope it is not true. I have been looking forward to dragon age for a long time. Now I wonder if I will get it at all. My belief is if we let them get away with it then they will keep doing this. Like I said I am not sure if it is true, but if it is then I just lost a lot of respect for bioware.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I've heard you get the whole lot in the special edition, I pre-ordered it today.. although not online as originally intended I was able to go down town and pre-order the limited edition straight out the store... seems there's not been as many people pre-ordering this as anticipated. Possibly because of the town I live in... most people here aren't into these kind of games.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
It sounds like Dragon Age comes with a pretty ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) toolset. So people looking to get into modding might want to think about picking up this game for the pc.
I doubt the tool supports making content for the consoles. That'd be awesome though.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
Actually, it looks like the toolset is supposed to be downloadable to everyone that purchased the game.
Unfortunately, they found some bugs with the toolset and so it's not available for download now like it is supposed to be.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
Very ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) game. I am about 10 hours in. The huge story and character interactions make up for the ok fighting system and terrible graphics.. I'm neutral on this game right now but can tell you that I am not gonna stop playing it until I beat it handily.
Sometimes it's easier to walk away then post. I'm a huge fan of Lionhead's Dev team.

Re: The LH Dragon age: Origins Party
Well upto now I've enjoyed the game.. it has it's faults and it's a hard game to play but the story and the dialogue make up for a lot here. I enjoy the combat here, it reminds me of kotor but this version is far more past paced then kotors and more user friendly. This is owed to being able to hot key attacks to different face buttons (Kind of like Sacred 2) rather then having to scroll across the bottom, find one out and then click on it. There's also a lot more moves to be found here then in kotor were all you had was critical, flurry and power but none the less it still as the same sort of feel to it. There is a lot more humph here too, I think the blood adds a lot to that, hit makes appear to have more impact then what it did in kotor.
The graphics are well.. bad but well kotor did have the best graphics for the time either but it made up for it with story and dialogue. The problem here with the graphics is that on some clothes they don't look rendered.. you know like in Mass Effect were there's that delay and the clothes look a little odd for a few seconds while the rendering engine kicked in and made them look normal, well some of the clothes on this game look like that but the engine just never kicks in... which I keep thinking is a glitch that they patch but then I look at my armour that well looks normal while looking at the other guys shirt and doubt that it's a glitch. Another problem is that things some times appear pixelated and it makes it look a mess, I keep thinking they've used that as a blur filter but it's gone wrong and again needs patching. This is more to do with the texturing and rendering I think because the models look top notch.
Graphics aside the games brilliant and I've been thrashing it from 10 Friday morning till the early hours of this morning (about 5) and then again today until about 4 in the afternoon and I've barely scratched the surface of the human noble campaign then there's the Human Magi, Dwarf commoner, Dwarf noble, Danish elf and City elf to go, not to mention the different skill tree's.
"IrishMorn" If Adon and Sagat step in....ah, what the hell, I'll get drunk and join in on that one.
