According to 1up Scardeath got cut. Surprise [:O]

You just made my day Porta, thank you.  I don't know if there is a happy enough smiley, I guess this one will do. Big Smile [:D]

Hopefully they will use something like one of various systems we mentioned as a replacement, that is if the news is true.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

Personally I thought the presentations were pretty damn G o o d [Good], and there's some ace ideas there.

So are those statistics final? I.E 100 weapons and 70 items of clothing? I'm guessing the clothing replaces armour?

If you can answer these questions then it'll be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

This isn't really final and could be subject to change. Also if you notice they said 100 augmentable weapons and 70 pieces of augmentable clothingWink [;)]

Along with the dungeons. There could really be 30 of them or more......and the same for spells.....nothing is final until Fable 2 ships.Smily [:)]

EDIT: great find Porta. I think what those guys said about the death mechanic were true, as in it is engrained in us.

No  problem Up [] I personally didn't like the system for its temporariness among other things. I am pretty sure that some of the other more predominate non-Scardeath supporters such as Red, Fablier, and Doppel also don't mind permanent consequence.

This raises some questions; if the Scar System is scrapped what do you think the concequence for Dieing would be?

Permanent consequence? So, they said something about replacing it with the old system? (I haven't listened to the podcast and never will Smily [:)] ).

They said that gamers hated permanent consequences and Lionhead received so much negative feedback from Scardeath that they changed it.

It's funny that they say that though as every member that I can think of that didn't like Scardeath didn't like it because it's consequences wasn't permanent (besides the scar itself) and usually suggested real permanent consequences because they liked them. Tongue Tied [:S]

May I ask why you would never listen to the podcast?

All i need to say is this....

Length:- 110mins (Like hell i'm gunna listen to it Lol)

"They said that gamers hated permanent consequences and Lionhead received so much negative feedback from Scardeath that they changed it."

I'm Glad that you said this...

The reason being if you didn't say it and PM promised the death system; you can pretty much betDead [:notalive:]Angry [] I'm just curious why dont lionhead post this on their dev blog or something so all the community can see. This way there wont be as much rants about it...

I wonder what they've changed it too though Tongue Tied [:S] but whe wern't we told in the first place is my question Surprise [:O]

Well PM and the devs have always said that the system wasn't final and that they themselves wasn't sure if it was G o o d [Good] enough. Some fans just support everything Lionhead says even Lionhead themselves aren't sure about it. Also PM never meant to tell us in the first place it was a slip up.

Sam has stated that the next video dairy would be about death so maybe they planed to reveal it then.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

Well I listened to the podcast, I don't think their right about the old death system being engrained in players.  They said hardcore gamers couldn't deal with the system, if they blacked out they would just walk up to the console and turn it off.  I said a few months ago that I would do the same thing, turn my console off if I blacked out, not because I can't deal with consequences but because I can't deal with not losing.  There isn't a problem with the consequence, there is a problem with the fact that you always win.

This was the problem we were trying to show from the very beginning, its a death system but it doesn't have a combat loss component.  I really hope they didn't go back to the old school save system, non-death with a combat loss after blacking out would be revolutionary.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

The problem with permanant scarring for death was, you couldn't redeem yourself in any way...

If you lose a bunch of times, you should be reminded you lost, not that you're a hideous mongrel who should be caged and walked with a leash, ya know...

Losing popularity is different than people laughing at you for something you can't fix...If you become the town jackass, you can remedy that by saving the town and having people change their opinion about you...

But if you get horribly scarred, you're really just in alot of trouble, cause people are always going to turn away from you...

Thanks and I agree with you, there was a lot revealed about Fable 2, which considering GDC is really an industry event is only a G o o d [Good] thing for people who are looking forward to Fable 2. You can't expect the entire game to be revealed at this point we still have several months to go before it's done.

As in regards to the "100 weapons and 70 items of clothing", that was part of a list Peter had in his powerpoint presentation for his last session on Friday and he did mention to take those stats with a pinch of salt, as the game isn't finished yet and things can both be added, removed or changed. So don't see this as a literal 'promise' - it was said in the context of what a sequel is supposed to have but that we (Lionhead) didn't think that it was enough and that's why things like drama (emotion), combat and co-op were really introduced as the biggest news things about Fable 2.

Also, filming at GDC was heavily regulated, I wasn't even allowed to film more than the first five minutes of Peter's talk on Friday and that was with the speaker's permission. Madness!!!!

What? For god's sake, you go away for a bit and crap like this happens. If this is true I'm really dissappointed in LH, they should know that people will always react badly to new ideas, I mean honestly the dog got massive negative reaction before it was seen, how is scardeath any different? My last hope is that they've taken the reaction as reason to reapproach the idea from a new direction rather than sticking with what they know. Save and replay is broken and needs fixing, scardeath could have done that but now thanks to a little bit of uninformed whinging we've potentially lost something brilliant altogether.

Scar death seemed pretty broken too, its not that surprising that hardcore gamers didn't like it.  Hopefully they just cut the scar part of the system and keep the non-death part of it somehow.

It's different in that the people mentioned actually played with ScarDeath and didn't like it. It wasn't some knee-jerk reaction to something they heard. They played with the system and didn't like it so they told Lionhead and they changed it.

Who said a save reload system was being implemented? You don't need ScarDeath to have a reload-less system as mentioned by many of the members of this board inculding the devs.

Fair enough that you wanted to try it. I would have liked to try it as well. The lsit of cons resulting from ScarDeath seemed far outweigh its one pro though so I understand why the change was made if indeed it has.
