Try running Omega Drivers. I havnt actually receievd the game yet(Frigging Play) but I prefer Omega Drivers compared to standard. I get better FPS and my laptop can run games better. It may help to try them.http://www.omegadrivers.net/

As i said before its the easy option blame the users config i still believe its a bug in the game which isnt detecting the correct codec on alot of people's machines... Whereas loading media player and running the movies fine, the game doesnt want to know

Virus... what u doing here? im sure i know you addicts irc? Anyway, im using tweaked drivers myself... no difference i really dont think its driver related Its a codec problem with the game

After playing the game for 6hrs yesterday i suddenly got the blackscreen problem, so i updated from media player 9 to 10 and then the game wouldnt start at all. I rolled back to 9 but still the game wouldnt start at all. I eventually uninstalled media player completely, then reinstalled 10 from the microsoft site and finally my game is working again. Maybe uninstalling media player completely will help some of you too.

As of now I've tried reinstalling Windows Media, reinstalling The Movies, deleting programs that may conflict with WMV's codec. All to no avail. I have contacted tech support. Grrrr.

Tech support are pretty clueless, havent told me ANYTHING i already know and have tried its a game problem end of subject :x

I've since disabled all my Startup programs. Still nothing.

Yup, add my name to the list. ABit NForce MoBo Athlon XP2000+ GeForce FX5700 1GB RAM NForce Sound Latest (as of last night anyway) graphics, audio, MediaPlayer, and DX...no change. Funny enough, when I first installed it, Star Maker was grey screen, but now works fine. Game still is blank after Lionhead logo. Activision no help so far. ARRGHH!

Can you also hear music?

Anyone tried re-install or updating Direct X? If not try it and let people know the result.

Could someone tell me exactly which codes are required by the game to run?

I am actually really concerned that nobody on high-up has really spoken about this problem, or tried to rectify it.
