    My first scrolling texture

I want to thank Mark for reshoot which I am figuring out to use. I found the miniatures directory (which is where the scrolling textures are for the scrolling landscape set) and I made my first scrolling texture. It is over at http://www.8eyedbaby.com My internet is really cheesy tongiht and I can't get into putfile, when I can I will upload a sample video. Small thumbnail of the texture (no motion) This goes perfect with templeofthegods volcanic set mods which is also over at 8eyedbaby

    Re: My first scrolling texture

SISKEL, my brother who reads the forums but almost never posts, suggested I just put a copy of the tutorial here, so well here it is Big Smile [:D] In order to make the scrolling back drops you need to create 4 images. They all need to be 1024 x 256 like standard backgrounds. The first image (the part furthest back from the camera) needs to be a solid image no transparencies. This one will be names mbp_yourname-v00. The rest of the images need to be almost one half (the top half) transparent and the bottom half solid. You can also put some 20% transparencies in to make wisps of smoke or clouds go by. If you make too much of the image transparent then you will see the floor boards in the stage when you film it. Transparencies are handled through the alpha channel and each program does that differently I use Paint Shop Pro 7 - if you need help with that program I can do it but any other program someone else will have to help you learn how to do it. The hardest part, for me, was getting the ends to match up the right and left ends of each image MUST match so when it scrolls you do not see the ends of the image. I found this to be easier to do if you make one side of the image then copy it and mirror it then paste it on the other end then just blend them together so there are no seems showing. I then move the middle around so that it does not look like a mirror image, all but the ends :0 Then name the files mbp_yourname_v00 and mbp_yourname_v01 all the way up to v03. Here is an image showing the numbering scheme. The images need to be in dds format as always. You then save them in a new folder under textrues named "miniatures". Re: My first scrolling texture

Tutorial part II (Using Paint Shop Pro 7) First you will need to download the free dds file converter http://files.filefront.com/dds_conve...einfo.html/1/1 Ok in Paint Shop Pro Start off with an image that has a transparent background by clicking New image and setting the background color as transparent Then once you are done painting the image and leaving whatever part you want to be transparent, transparent you then choose save as and from the file type choose png file but before you click the save button choose options down on the bottom right another window pops up and now choose run optimizer. From that window you will see some tabs in the middle of the screen one of those tabs says "transparency" click that tab and choose "alpha transparency" and "existing image or layer transparency". Now click "OK" and then name the file and click save. Now run the dds converter and you will have converted your image to the dds format. now just save it to the proper folder and test it in the game. Let me know if something seems unclear

    Re: My first scrolling texture

Ok i did not see a reason to put this into a NEW thread so I will post my latest scrolling textures here. I have been thinking of making a movie like this for some time but all though I created the textures I have not had the time to make the film so I will just put the scrolling textures I created up for others to have. They can be downloaded from 8eyedbaby.com look under overly/floortile section. The idea is based on an old movie where somone shrinks a space ship down in order to travel inside a human body. It is two scrolling textures one of a blood stream and one of a dense neuron pathway. Sample videos here: http://media.putfile.com/Nuerons - yes I spelled nerones wrong while making this file Big Smile [:D] and the blood vessel demo vide is here: http://media.putfile.com/Blood-Vessel-Test I hope you like them

    Re: My first scrolling texture

Wow, those are really good! Was the movie you're thinking of called 'Fantastic Voyage'? "(1966) As appealing concepts go, the idea of hosting a minituarized Rachael Welch in your bloodstream resonated quite strongly with the male physche of the 1960's for obvious reasons. ...but the trippy special effects, representing a journey into the body of the president in order to save his life, more than compensated. Especially as most viewers were smashed on acid at the time. Damned hippies." - Retro Gamer Issue Eleven, 20th Century Games. ^ That? Silly [:p]

Yes that was it Fantastic Voyage Glad you reminded me what it was. I was very young the first time I saw it and I wish I had it on DVD... Rachael Welch still looks good for an old woman. Big Smile [:D] Thanks oz Glad you like them. I am so busy at work I do not have time to finish the sets I wanted to make let alone make my movie. I just hope others use them and send me a link to thier film so I can see them.

Woody said to keep such file types listed here so here is my latest. This scrolling texture was requested by conxroxs he needed a Nebula for his movie. Frankly I think a nebula is GREAT idea. I wish I had thought of it on my own. I hope you guys enjoy it. Big Smile [:D] Ok here is my latest and greatest creation that can be picked up on 8eyedbaby.com http://www.8eyedbaby.com/8eyedCM/content/displayMods.php?ModID=914 Sample movie here: http://media.putfile.com/Nebula-Sample
