Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

This is sad news indeed. For the last (Nearly) 3 years TMO has been a big part of my life. I´ve seen directors come and go and been amazed by movies released by all the creative people on here. Myself I´ve tried to entertain all of you with my movies, and hopefully I´ve succeded.

If these news would have been announced 6 months ago I would probably have cried when I heard about it. But after the big crash and TMU we were all expecting this day to come soon. This is a G o o d [Good]bye to the (once) amazing TMO, but not a G o o d [Good]bye to all of you amazing people in the community, or at least not you who moved to TMU. It´s time for a change, it´s time for TMU. And it is with no doubt the future of the community.

    R.I.P

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

Just popped in to see how things were going to find out its shutting down!

I'm so sad this has happened but I must say and I'm sure many have and will agree with me when I say we've been expecting this since February 2006.

Still as my first online community I have very fond memories of it. There are so many interesting and creative people here and I will miss those I don't meet again.

    HeddyHooper:

Darlings, this is indeed very sad news to me. I guess I am out of a job unless they let me in over at TMU. I just want to take a moment and thank all of you for reading my column and for your encouragement to me and my boss MGM.

I shall miss this thing that was so dear to all of us, this age of discovery and friendships, this golden age of The Movies.

This is Heddy Hooper, signing out Darlings!

Heddy darling! TMU couldn't keep you out even if they wanted to. You are an important cog in the wheel that is Moviewood and we all need somewhere to get our fix of gossip! Stick out tongue [:P]

    BenTuttle:
TMO was the first online community I have ever been in

You me and many of us Ben. It was the first online community for many of us, and it has been a very special community. But the positive is that regardless of TMO closing, the community is still thriving and I am sure that it will for many years to come. I am sure that it will evolve and change, but it will still exist.

It indeed is an end of an era that TMO is closing. It also is a thing that saddens many of us. But by the same token that feeling shows that it was worth something. TMO has been a place where many creative minded people could not only have an outlet their creativity, but maybe more importantly (for me it is anyway) to meet other like minded people.

I guess I am trying to say that TMO was a business venture that created an online community unlike any other (that I am aware of). The original aim was a tycoon game about the film industry that had a nice little touch where you could make little films to amuse and entertain your family and friends. I don't think anyone ever envisioned that so many quality movies would or even could be made with this "game".

On the subject of modding tools: I would like to publicly ask that Lionhead release the modding tools by having them as an official download on the website. I am sure that even if there was a charge for this people would pay for them. I know I would and I am not even interested in modding.

The King is dead (TMO), long live the King (TMU)!

But the people of this land are still the same.

    But finally:

    THANK YOU TMO

    it was a great journey!

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

I just want to say, this. If The Movies had not exsited the studio that discovered me, Imperium International would never have been built. There would never have been great stars such as, Duke Cooper, Susan Wayward, Clark Grabel, Lana Taylor, Burt Douglas, Tyrone Montgomery, Mamie VanVoren, Audrey Taylor, Gordon Reeves, Harlow Monroe, Robert Holden. They all stared in films here.

If there had never been The Movies I would not have met the love of my life, my husband, Richard Bourbon. MGM would be sitting in front of his computer playing Rome Total War in his pajamas instead of sitting in front of his computer in his pajamas creating us for his studio. Heddy Hooper would have been speechless (Not an all together bad thing.) And our fans lives would have been a bit duller with out us.

Thank you TMO for alowing us to shine in the fermament of the Hollywood sky for a too breif moment.  All of us at Imperium would like to sum it up with this little song. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DoIvqoL0s4I

    Love,

You know, this angers me very much. You guys made your money while it lasts, then when you don't make any more money, you close down the place. One Word: Pathetic.

You guys should be giving refunds to every person who still plays this game, because ONE OF THE FEATURES THAT WE PAYED FOR IS FOR ONLINE. You can't just come and take that away from us? You should be giving us refunds or doing something that we all benefit from. I know theres TMU, but you know what they say, theres no place like home, and you guys are about to take our home away.

    It's PATHETIC, WRONG, and UNFAIR.

    You cant just do that.

Actually they can. If anything's pathetic, it's the fact that you're so angry about something which we all knew would happen from the moment TMO went online.

You guys made your money while it lasts, then when you don't make any more money, you close down the place. One Word: Business.

    Fixed that for you.

Hmm, nice points there, very well put as well. But if you don't mind me asking, why are you so dedicated to ruining this thread? We're here to reminisce on old times and look to the future, not scream and cry about something we all knew was happening.

And, since it doesn't matter anymore, I've always wanted to say this to you Shy- I love you.

The company made a loss on TM and TMS&E so they paid more for the game than all of us did.

TMU gives you the powers of outside editing, do not cry, bicker or rejoice. The community will not fall, but with your comment to UG you might fallout with a lot of us. Huh? [:^)]

P.S ShyShy, it's Paid NOT Payed.

Anyhow, a lot of memories, a lot of time.  I really thought the game and the community were something special. To me, it was.

I guess the biggest shame of all, is that TMO is dying with a whimper, not a bang.

    Ditto...

Some great times were had on TMO.

I've met a lot of people I never would have...
This closure was inevitable but still a little sad none the less. Disappointed [:isappoin]

    G o o d [Good]bye TMO...

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

ShyShy, I suggest you go take a look at the ToS you agreed to when installing the game. They have the right to stop providing online services whenever they want, as you'll find with most games. Wink [;)]

    Anyway...
I'm surprised TMO lasted as long as it did, to be honest... I think we all owe Lionhead a big thank you for keeping it up as long as they have, and for putting up with all of our dramas, abuse (of them and each other) and, in some cases, creepy obsession with their employees ( Stick out tongue [:P] ) for all this time. Not that most of that is likely to stop anytime soon. Stick out tongue [:P]
So <HUGS> for Sam, Woody, and all the guys/gals whose names we don't know, but who helped keep TMO running for as long as it did... Oh, and the people who took part in making the game in the first place, I guess. Rolleyes [] Stick out tongue [:P]

It's been a long time since this place was about the movies for me. The only reason I stuck around as long as I did was the community. As with many others, this was the first online community I've ever really been a part of, and I think it was a special one. This community also came along at a time when I needed something, after recovering from an illness that lasted quite a while I was finding it difficult to interact with people (being shy and bedridden for several months do not make a G o o d [Good] combination).
It is through this community I met Del, who's now stuck with me forever (muahaha), it was someone I met through this community who encouraged me to not give up, which played a big part in me applying to uni. I've had lots of good times on these boards, or with people from these boards (I'd say don't take that the wrong way... but in one case I guess the wrong way does apply Stick out tongue [:P] ).

My only regret? All those friends I made through this community who I've since lost contact with, especially this past year. I guess the ugliness that led to me all but leaving the boards is regrettable too, although I had no direct part in it.

Anyway, enough babbling from me. Thanks again to Lionhead for creating this place, and for continuing to spend the money on keeping TMO online despite getting nothing in return (other than grief from mislead and ungrateful people, I guess Stick out tongue [:P] ), and thanks to the community who made this place what it is.

    Once more, for the road:
    <HUGS>

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

The Movies for me, was a life changing event.  I know that sounds like exxageration, but its so true...   The Movies opened up such a wide door for my own creativity that had for years, been wasting away... and not just in story telling.  The Movies co-incided with a my discovery of Voice over Internet, and introduced me to so many talented creative people...  And gave me the chance to talk about, people to talk to...and tell some bad jokes on The Movies On Air.

I have no regrets for all the time and hard work that I have spent on this hobby, just because it has given me so much back.

Even with TMO being gone... all the friends I have made are still around, but the only thing I will regret will be all the future Creative People who will have missed out on this Golden Time in my life...

You have been G o o d [Good] to me TMO, and you have my apprication and thanks.

    Ah, well... what to say...

    Game over, man... Game over!

After all, I think all of us here had a blast of time with the game, and far more with the community. Playing a game, that originally was planned as ordinary forum, that evolved itself to a game in its own rights...

Marketing, plugging, advertising your movies was a true part of the game, if you let yourself into it.

It's a shame, that it had to stay with only one AddOn and that the franchise can't be continued...

I don't blame anyone for that. The only one to blame is the game itself... and its missing mass-appeal. (so, ultimately you could blame the peolpe not buying it... HA! At least, we have someone to blame...)

(so, could please someone turn on that damn radio... I pulled the plug already.)
