I can't seem to delete Windows Media Player (I'm trying to installe WMV9 instead of 10, Sam said 10 don't work for some reason)

thats kinda stupid, why wouldnt it work in wmv10? oh and do u think LH will release a patch to let people get passes the loadidng screen, and into the menu, because when i first installed it, and the first time i ran the game, i was sooo exicited, the game finally loaded, and when it tried to load the menu screen, these wierd white lines appeared, and the white coloured font at the bottom became blurry. The lines go diagnolly and they are connecting with the font at the bottom :S...has this happened to anyone else?..oh yea then it eixts outta the game.

Well, my friends can play it in WMV10 just fine. Some guy mentioned changing the ATI settings for SMART GART to 4x, but I only have a vague idea of what he was talking about, and cannot seem to access or find it.

bryy, Blooduk posted a quick method for taking MP10 to MP9 in a thread I started...I'll try to cut and paste it here... It didn't help me, btw, but it seems like there's some trickling success here and there. And you seem as determined as anyone to try anything. More and more your sig photo seems to express the slapstick silent scream/horrible wink of the black screen of death. When do we begin to talk about returning this game?

I know this would be hard, but maybe it would be good to try and find some common ground with all the people having this problem. If we can narrow it down to something we all have in common, then it'll be easier to find a workaround or fix... Of course, how to go about this is the issue hehe

this really sucks, i've been waiting ages to play this game but this black screen thing is pi**ing me off! the starmaker works fine for me but the main game is still remaining on the black screen. i've tried all the suggestions on here and on the activision site but to no avail. what the hell are lionhead going to do about it????

ehi I'm from ITALY and i have the same problem , too !!!! When the game starts , i can see LIONHEAD STUDIOS , and then i can only hear the sounds of the game , without doing anything else ... so i have to press cntrl ALT canc to exit the game ...what can i do ????

Run tells me it cannot find "C:\Program". Am I supposed to download that as TXT or- ?

Well I have to say that I actually "had" this black screen problem untill... I restarted my computer and then it started working, this might not be the case of the problem but it seems to be. Hmm

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Pentium M 1.6 Nvidia 6800 go 256mb 512mb ram Windows Media Player v10.00.00.3802 Directx 9.0c I have tried 78.30, 78.82, and 82.10 video drivers. I have reinstalled the game multiple times. I have never had a problem with another game that has not been solved by simply restarting the computer. I have also manually updated Windows Media Player, and Directx 9 to the latest versions. Here is a list of current games on my computer: 1. Americas Army 2. Civilization 4 3. Half-life 2 4. Day of Defeat: Source 5. Counter Strike: Source 6. Diablo 2 (and LOD) 7. Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood 8. Age of Empires 3 9. Battlefield 2 10. Guild Wars 11. Gunz: The Duel Here is a list of other games that I have played on this computer, but do not have installed at this time, and all have worked. 1. Half-life 2. Counter Strike 3. Day of Defeat 4. Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 5. Halo 6. World of Warcraft 7. Call of Duty 2 (demo) 8. F.E.A.R. (demo) 9. Unreal Tournament 2004 10. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within 11. Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow Anyone here wish to tell me that it is my computer that is broken? This is obviously sub-standard coding done by Lionhead Studios.

The best response we've ever gotten was from a programmer, and all that was WAS: (Paraphrasement) "It's a codec problem." Would be nice to have gone a little more in-depth there if you seem to know what's causing the issue.

Does everyone that is having this problem regularly have nVidia cards? It seems to me that most of the specs I see share that common thread. Maybe a common link to start? I don't know...I'd say I have over 300 games, and I have never had a problem like this before. I've had some minor problems with some of them, but nothing that a driver update or reboot didn't fix. The very few times I've had to use tech support always led to an answer rather quickly, but this is killing me. Activision usually takes a full day to respond, and when they do, I get the same generic advice that is freely available to read on the 'answers' list. While I know that it's likely not to work, I've done everything they suggested to the letter, and it's still a problem. I've done everything I've seen here, and it's still a problem. Not having a support post, and getting double talk coming from the developers is not helping my mood. I've anticipated this game for years. I've waited through countless delays. I'm not complaining about that...hell, if it makes a better game, then GREAT! However, I would expect that through all that time, it would be thoroughly tested to prevent things like this from happening. I know that many people seem to be playing the game fine, however, I read alot about crashes too. Hell, at this point, I'd LOVE to live with some crashes if it meant I could SEE THE MAIN MENU once. The sad thing is...I couldn't even return the thing for a refund, because it's opened software, and the best best I'd get is another copy...

This game gets worse and worse for bugs... I just loaded the game up going to 800x600 like that guy suggested now it moans for YOU MUST UPGRADE YOUR MEDIA PLAYER im using media player 10 you stupid BEEP. whinge whinge whinge, i think the devs shouldve used xvid!

bryy: you have to copy that line C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Setup_wm.exe without the first " ...if it says it can't find it, browse to the location... I actually browsed to it rather than cutting and pasting

Gawh. Turns out I deleted that stuff when trying to rollback. Anyone like to send me the files over AIM or something?
