Sounds and looks to me like this bug and it should be solved with a simple driver update. Maybe do a driver rollback to a previous version if you have the latest at the moment.

Operating System: Windows 2000 Graphics settings: Highest, Lowest; tried both What the bug is doing: Game randomly closes or freeze the machine after a duration of anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour. Its really quite irritating. Just restarted the machine due to a windows error. So, its currently the only thing on there. Grabbed it for my younger brother while awaiting the machine's restart. So the systems completely clean, nothing to conflict with. Updated al lthe drivers, updated everythign for windows, installed the patches. The game still crashed all the time. Someone mentioned turning off AA, I couldn't find it in the game's options. Machine runs all of our other games without flaw. This doesn't sound like a "real" bug, more like you have a corrupted download of the patch. This can sometimes happen, just download it again. You should also consider to install patch 1.2. I suggest taking them from the official EA servers because you can be sure that they are not broken on their server in the first place. Although a download corruption can still not be excluded this way. Remember you need Patch 1.1 before you can install 1.2. Download here: Patch 1.1 -> Patch 1.2

    Re: Bug/Glitch Reporting thread.

I've been working with EA for about 2 months now trying to play BW2. I've reformatted the HD twice, I've bought new video cards, updated ram, new harddrive, new CPU, etc. Long story short. Here is where we are at, and EA is lost. System: Asus P5ND2 SLI Mainboard, Nvidia Nforce4 chipset Intel Pentium D 840 3.2G Dual Processor, 800 FSB 1024MB DDR2 RAM ATI X1300 Video Card, 256MB GDDR 160GB Fugitsu HD,7200 RPM XP Home, SP2 Ultra 600w Power Supply. 2 120mm Chassis Fans. Problem encountered: After 1/2 hour gameplay, game crashes to desktop. To resolve the issue, here are the steps done: Game was ininstalled and reinstalled, same issue, Game un/reinstalled, but temp folder cleared before each patch. same issue. Harddrive formatted, XP installed, DX9.0c Updated, Game installed, but temp folder cleared before each patch. same issue. Ram upgraded from 512 to 1024, same issue video changed from x550 to x1300, same issue CPU changed from Celeron 2.93 to PD 3.2, same issue. As such, the harddrive has been cleared 3 times, all components reinstalled, latest drivers installed from the manufacturers. Last responce EA gave me was to disable features of the video card, and told me to look in the desktop ATI 3D properties for these details. ATI hasn't used Windows display properties for years since they came out with the Catalyst Control Center. I Changed what they described in the Catalyst, and opened the game. Most everything was blurry, which wasn't surprizing since they asked me to shut down the AA. EA has no idea how to troubleshoot this game, I've been working with them for at least 2 months now, on a daily basis. I've duely invested a lot into hardware to resolve. If you guys have some time, I would appreciate some help from the developers to solve this, I would love to finish the game. Ask me for anything, and I'll get it for you. Thanks

--------------------------- BUG REPORT --------------------------- Name of Bug: program hangs (patched to version 1.2) Possible cause: unknown Type of bug: program hangs (see below for details) Your System specs: Dell 8400, 925X motherboard, P4 530 (3.2GHz), 1GB ram, Radeon X800XL Graphics settings: 1280x1024, detail level high What the bug is doing: Program becomes unresponsive but the CPU is pegged at full load (reports as 50% load because it's hyperthreading). This has happened to me several times on the third island. The computer hasn't crashed; if I CTL-ALT-DLT to get the task manager, it's still chugging away. I can End Process on white and the computer's happy as a clam afterwards. The system/CPU fan also becomes increasingly and extremely loud, the longer I let it sit in its hung state. The fan does NOT get that loud while playing before the hang. Additional system settings (from dxdiag): XP Pro SP2 (5.1, Build 2600) Main Driver: ati2dvag.dll Version: 6.14.0010.6583 (English) Date: 10/28/2005 WHQL Logo'd: Yes I'm not using a later driver because this one has been stable for me for a long time and across many games (KotOR 1, KotOR2, Dawn of War, DoW WA, etc). I tried a newer one once (don't recall what version) and it caused a LOT of problems... like the screen being black no matter what I tried.

i use to get that i fix it was a bad cable to the DVD/CD drive go out get a new cable for it. if it a laptop take it to a repair shop have them replace the cable to the DVD/CD drive for you. cable are really cheap to buy have no Ids about laptop cable never had one so i can't say. *cable go bad like a telephone line to your telephone after a time it don't make a good connection. they last about 2-5 years. i known some brand new system had bad cables. you can go into "My Computer" right click-on it then look down the list see "Manage" click-on it lookup "Event viewer" click-on it then look up for "Appilcation" click-on it one time only look for any type of error listed in there. a lot of time you see "Error" in red text letters right click-on it to get to the data save in it, right click-on see "Properties.." you see the error most case there a link to get information on it. for the Cable go into system area and dig around to see any error been recorded in there, in there you can find all type of error like for your Video cards to cables to Cd rom drive and other things right now i finding i have thing to fix for my video card seem i getting return error never seen till now

    Re: Bug/Glitch Reporting thread.

@aprice1 The ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 is a not supported chipset for B&W2. This means you probably can't do anything to make it run properly. If running at "MINSPEC" doesn't work (see the game's ReadMe for further information), well you're screwed. A driver update can help sometimes (and you already did it) but for some users it works and for some it doesn't. Although I would suggest the driver from the ATI homepage instead of the one from Toshiba. They can be the same (but I think they are newer) or the ATI drivers refuses to install, but it's worth a try. Wink [;)] Like I said the chipset is not supported and therefore you cannot expect the game to run, sorry. You're last chance may be to add the following line to the graphics.config of the game (if you haven't already): 9000 1 2 1 It's basically the same then running on "MINSPEC" but a more "deeper" change. For more information on the graphics.config, check out this stickied FAQ. Good [Good] luck and good night (I go to bed now Sleeping []). Up []
