You are the only one hyped here!
Farenheit was a okay game but felt a lot like Dragon's lair. A not too interactive adventure because your choices didn't really change any thing, they where just there to avoid having to simply sit back and watch the game unfold.*
This Heavy Rain looks fine, but which new gen game doesn't?
And spiritual sequel? C'mon New Age is so yesterday!
*But yeah, it was kinda fun to play anyways. ![Stick out tongue [:P]](/emoticons/emotion-4.gif)

I think it looks bloody brilliant, as it happens. Graphics quality aside - and it is, let's face it, a front-runner for best looking game on any platform - it's animation is phenomenal, and that's what brings a game's believability, not siny, shiny textures and polygons. Most current-gen games might look great in screenshots, but once they're moving, clunky and repetative anmation lets them down with very few exceptions. Better shaders, resolution andvtextures are always a given with each new wave of consoles - as I've said a few time in the past I've been hoping the big advances in graphics will come in the form of animation and physics. That's what breaths life and credibility into a world, and this certainly has that in bucket loads judging by the previews. This is something special. And I've got faith in Quantic Dream to tell an interesting story in a new way. Curiously, I saw Fahrenheit as a very interactive adventure that gave the player a great deal of scope to do their own thing - yes, you play the same scenes each game, but you're given a lot of scope for making your own decisions within each scene. Lets face it - most games labeled as adventures require you to follow a completely fixed path to progress to the next part of game, where another competely pre-determined action is required, and so on. By comparison, Fahrenheit gave you considerable freedom. I always thought the Dragon's Lair comparisons were very lazy - yes, it had some fixed-action sequences that required button pushes shown onscreen to get through them as Dragon's Lair did, but so does Resident ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) 4, God of War, the New Star-Wars game. Are they just like Dragon's Lair as well? Anyway. I'm biased because I like story-driven games, and I like left-field stuff that dares to be a little different, But Heavy Rain is very much at the top of my 'Most Wanted' list. Frankly anything that tries to drag games further from 'Armoured Space-Marine shoot alien in head, unconvincingly stomp down corridoor, shoot alien in head, express heterosexual camaraderie with badly-animated squad' has to be a ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) thing. Games can be a great tool for deeply-involving story telling - lets stop treating gamers like 5 year olds with no attention span and start using them for that again. Not everyone switches off if you don't get to shoot someone in the groin every 3.4 seconds

November release.
Four main playable characters: Ethan Mars, Scott Shelby, Madison Paige and Norman Jayden. Each one featuring different exclusive scenes, character backgrounds, abilities, personality, will be witness to different events and will share his/her own views on what's going on to build the story for the player.
FBI agent Norman Jayde was shown here, his job being the making of criminal psychological profiles. He was sent to the West Coast to investigate the Origami Killer case as backup since it's been months and the police still doesn't have a friggin clue. This already adds a tense relationship between him and the police that'll impact the storyline. He's been trained in psychological studies, able to dwelve into the killers' mind. He's highly professional and organized, but obsessed to the point he'd do anything to catch his man.
Jayden uses a prototype device: the ARI (Alternate Reality Interface), comprised of a pair of glasses and a glove linked together. The glasses are capable of detecting fingerprints, ADN remnants, blood trails and such that'd normally be invisible to the human eye. The glove allows for inmediate analysis of the substances bypassing the wait for lab results. Seems like Jayden's main weakness is his drug addiction. If he spends too long without a dose of Tryptocaine he will manifest abstinence syndrome in the form of convulsions, dizzyness, blurry vision and overall incapacitation that could be fatal in some situations. The player will have to juggle between following the killer's track and hiding this addiction.
Also Old interface has been discarded, now the context sensitive actions appear around the character as he moves around the environment - basically they come up as "ideas" on what to do. The speed these prompts move at, font size and such are relative to the character's emotional status. i.e: if he's calm, they'll move slowly, if he's under pressure they'll be fast and if he's drugged they'll appear blurry, nigh-unreadable. Dialogs use the same system.
Sorry about stupid big images... But yeah this isnt exactly vbulletin so no auto down scaling.

uzivatel:Heavy Rain? The game should have been released 2008 not 2010.
If the story is great, it should be awesome experience ... if not, well, there is not much else left other than the story, is there?
Why should it have been released in 2008 ? Rather delay a game than release some bad game and quantic have said that they are on budget and all so it's all fine. Alan wake should also have been released a long time ago but it wasnt done yet and now it's looking awesome. What was your point again ?
What is there other than the story ? There is more than just quick time events in the game, the qte's are only used when some action is going on. Other than that you can walk around like in any other adventure game (try fahrenheit and you will know how it works, only this time the qte buttons wont be big and ugly). Even when fahrenheits story went bad the game was still fun to play. What is the big diffrence from doing all that to : cover, shoot, cover, shoot, cover, shoot ?
They are going to reveal a new character at gamescom, the main game is done but they are holding it back until early 2010 and polishing it to not drown in the mess that is christmas.

Yeah, Alan Wake, pretty much the same story.
I dont like QTEs and I doubt there are many gamers who do. It feels like something to have you occupied while the game plays itself.
Its not an issue if the story is ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) . Then again shooting stuff (if done right!) may be fun on its own. Mashing random butons? not so much...
We will see if pushing the game until 2010 was ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) decision or not.

maggot:But this isnt smashing random buttons. Sometimes it is but many times you will have the choice to do diffrent actions as seen on the last pic i posted in this thread.
Fahrenheit worked imo just as well as any other game out there when it came to the action. They can make everything look so much better with the camera angles that they can have because it isn't just another shooter.
Did you also hate all the old adventure games ? :/
No, but if the game used random generator, you would not know
I am fan of more direct approach - you dont need QTEs to let players make decisions during the game. Yes, it looks better because it gives authors more freedom with camera ... the thing is - does it play better?
If by "all the old" you mean the ones with text commands, then yes, I hated those. I liked SCUMM adventure games and the newer stuff as those games were usually build on solving puzzles (and fun dialogues).

maggot:Yeah i meant the lucasarts adventure games. But i just know that no game has immersed me as much as fahrenheit, ever. Even when the story turned bad and the last part of the game felt rushed it was so ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) .
Same here.
I've been following Heavy Rain ever since that "angry wife" tech video appeared. Been impressed with the screenshots as well.
I'm hoping that it takes the immersion and storytelling of Fahrenheit and builds upon it with Heavy Rain. I'm sure that since the gameplay is similar (in regards to movie-like interaction) they've learned a number of things since Fahrenheit.

Apparently is does. According to the feedback I've read on previews, the action system gives much more freedom to the player than the standard "One button for action, one button for jump, one button for shoot gun" system a lot of action adventures use.
bear in mind that if Heavy Rain is anything like Fahrenheit, QTEs won't make up a great deal of it. With the exception of a few drawn-out fights, most of Fahrenheit was controlling with the sticks, making appropriate gesture movements from the options as they occured to the character. Which I personally thought was quite a lot better than having to scour the area for Generic Switch X before bushing 'Action'. When it gets down to it, the QTEs were there in place of cutscenes.
Still, if you don't like that sort of thing then fair enough. All I know is the previews say it works and gives you a freedom you really have to play to understand (yeah, unhelpful, I know ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) ) and every time I see a new vid or read a new preview I want to play it more and more...

Fahrenheit still manages to be fantastic, even though most of the game is quick time events. Actually it's more like a movie with multiple paths than a game. It has one of those quirky plots which goes from odd & spooky to balls out insanity, and I think many developers should take a lesson.
So yeah, can't wait for Heavy Rain. Wait a sec. No PC release? No 360 release? I don't have a PS3!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-
For some reason Birdo clearly has the voice of a Japanese man in this trailer. It's like... eating a cake. You expect the cake to be delicious, but when you bite into it, it sounds like a Japanese man. See what I'm trying to say here?
