    vBulletin vs Invision Power Board

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this topic, but I noticed that Lionhead uses vBulletin board technology and I was wondering if the users of this forum could help me decide between vBulletin and Invision Power Board. I'm seriously thinking of changing from phpBB 2.0.17 since all I seem to do is mod it so it has the same features as the two before mentioned boards. I am aware that purhasing is necessary to acquire these packages but I'm so sick of phpBB although I'll miss their great customer service [not sarcasm]. Pros, cons and comparisons would do greatly since I'm mostly interested in how a user finds these, but any feedback from owners of the boards [hint]Lionhead Boards admins[/hint] Rolleyes [] would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

VB is faster, more secure, more customisable/moddable, professional paid support, more features...?Wink [;)]

Re: vBulletin vs Invision Power Board

vBulletin is a much better choice than IPB. I have used a crap load of forums myself, originally phpBB, also played around a bit on IPB and simple machines BB, easyBB.... and vBulletin. vBulletin is the best BB software out there IMHO. The admin panel is also far superioer to anything else. vB can be slightly heavier on SQL queries depending on what features you have turned on. But it is a far superior board than anything else. The support and communtiy around it is also as good as phpBB Happy [:)]

To be honest, I've only ever used this (and previously UBB). I think vBB is great. We've now used it for quite a few years, but it's very easy to re-skin to keep it fresh, as well as the countless mods and addons that you can use with it. I've no reason to switch to anything else.

Thank you all, does anybody know if there are any deals on vBulletin [since it's so obviously the smartest option]? Also, does it cost to remove copyright legally? +Rep to all that helped. Except Admin, you sly dog. :P Edit: Fine, Admin gets +Rep too, think yourself lucky :P

As far as I know, they don't really need to make deals to get people to buy their software. Removing the copyright notice *does* cost extra as well.

I know they don't have to make deals, but every penny saved goes towards Lionhead's next release. :P

Re: vBulletin vs Invision Power Board

I have IPB - got the lifetime license before they canned it. The only pro with IPB is that you can still have the install - just no updates/support - when the license expires. However, with vB, they usually tell you to remove it once your license is up. Ps. v2.1.2 for IPB is out now - its a lot faster (or so I think) than its predecessors.
Oh my god, I'm not playing WoW *panic*

Re: vBulletin vs Invision Power Board

So I saw. Well, thanks. I'm pretty sure I'll be going with vBulletin if I do decide to pay at all for a bulletin board. Thanks anyway. I'll wait and see how many jobs I get in the next month or two after my current client. I suppose, it could give me the right to UP my prices for web design. *ponders* Looks like it's phpBB till then. Who knows, maybe Olympus [phpBB 3.0.0] will be a breakthrough [plus free :P] Thanks again for everyones input.

I think phpBB is the best free forum software. Why? It has a nice interface, some nice features/mods, and looks clean (if you have a decent skin, of course). phpBB is probably the way to go.

But have they fixed all the damm bot problems yet ? I had a couple of phpbb forums and a lot of bots and spammers started attacking the site. After switching to vbulletin (yeah not free) the problem went away.

Worst forum software i have yet to try is this ***.
