All about the same but in the end there is but one, if you reach the bonus land the Turtle is all there is.
I like all the creatures for any role  exept  the cow is a bit silly , the lizard pie comes a close second .

    Re: witch creature is best?

It depends what you want, really. The ape's excellent if you want your creature to build your town for you, which is G o o d [Good] for both G o o d [Good] and E v i l [Evil] clearly, and the cow's definitely a G o o d [Good] choice if you want to be purely G o o d [Good] with happy people (it's an entertainer).

For an E v i l [Evil] god, the wolf's the best fighter, but the lion (as well as the tiger, which is just a different colour really)  is G o o d [Good] as well. The turtle's best thoguht if you want a creature that can take a beating, for example one to back up your troops instead of being the main force against the enemy, with troops backing him up.

    Re: witch creature is best?

As I've seen, there really aren't any differences besides speed and appearance. From fastest to slowest, the natural speeds of the creatures are:

    1. Wolf
    2. Lion
    3. Ape
    4. Cow

But in Black & White 2, there aren't nearly as many variations in creatures as there was in the first. None of them have natural alignments, as they can all be taught very easily what they can and cannot do. So it comes down to a matter of preference, in the end. Go for whichever you like best. I like the Ape and Cow for being E v i l [Evil], and the Wolf and Lion for G o o d [Good]. And the Turtle, I don't know. I haven't used it much yet...it looks awesome when E v i l [Evil], though.

If it's alive, we can kill it.

I accept that  as a possibility but  where are the individual stats for each creature  held.
There are no obvious  separate mind files by creatuere  type.

    What? Are you serious?
There are clear differences between the creatures, anyone can see that. It's in the instruction booklet, it's mentioned in the game and Lionhead have said it. It's complete fact, whether you choose to accept it or not is irrelevant, it's not a matter of opinion.

    Re: witch creature is best?

    Yes I am serious.
We can all see the difference in the creatures the starting stats can  be changed around in the first 5-30m of game play.
    .
Sometimes  I just wonder  if some people  have played the  game as much as they should before giving advice.
    .
I have had all the creatures  and taken them  through all lands several times so I know that your creature will adapt  to the way you play the creature type dose not really matter in the end.
Lionhead  would not have  F****D up so badly  that you  needed a specific  creature  to win.

    Re: witch creature is best?

Who says you need a a specific creature to win?
I'm not sure why you're trying to go against proven fact, but there's really no point. You're one voice against every other player, the game, the booklet, what's blatantly obvious and Lionhead themselves.
Had you considered the possibility that maybe you're the one who's wrong, instead of the people who made the game and have played it a lot more times?
There's no possible way of denying that the different creatures have different traits.
Feel free to boast about how you've played the game "several" times (nowhere near enough to be taken remotely seriously on this issue, by the way), but one person playing the game several times is nothing compared to the people who made the game, edit the game, and have played it a lot more times than "several".

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but all it looks like you're doing is trying to provoke an argument for the fun of it.

But, if you seriously believe this, play the game more. You really shouldn't be giving "advice" when you know nothing about the game or, even worse, you play it but don't understand what's even happening.

    Re: witch creature is best?

Well I think I said this too in the past and I have to agree with Grem that the game files show no difference for the creatures of B&W2 in the beginning. So they must develop the same way according to your playing style. In the old B&W they all had different stats in the beginning. I trust Grem if he says so because I know he is in touch with the game files concerning modding. I simply looked the config files and did not find a clue hinting on a specific creature definition. There are only general starting parameters which seem to be equal for all creatures!

What the manual says is shallow. It seems to be talking about stuff that did not make it in the game. Although I am not sure nowadays, but I think I remember searching a described feature from the manual and never found it. Similar to the shots of the game on the official EA site which show places/scenes that do not exist (development shots). Dunno if the site still exists or if they changed it. If the creatures have different stats however, it can defintely not be found in "normal" code in the game files which does of course not mean that it is not there.

At least this is what I think to remember. Excuse an old nerd if it is wrong. Wink [;)]

    Re: witch creature is best?

The game files themselves might not explain how exactly the creatures vary, but like you said that doesn't mean that the differences aren't there.

The game doesn't really seem completed for a lot of it, so even I'm going to take the game (and the booklet) saying that the creatures have different stats with a pinch of salt. That said though, there is still a noticeable difference between the creatures.

As for modding, as far as I'm aware no one's really found a way to mod creatures very much, those simple .txt files, skins and fur seem to be what it's limited to for the most part (though I think I read Daxter had found a way to make new creature meshes), so it's not exactly reliable to use one of those files to explain the workings of the creature. After all, it is record breaking AI Stick out tongue [:P].
I'll admit, for the most part, the differences are subtle - but definitely there. I've very rarely managed to convince an ape to fight well in a creature/creature battle, but lions, tigers and wolves manage to a lot. As well as that, cows always seem to be more inclined to entertain the people.

Edit: I've just been having a go on the game again, with a few new save files, and undeniably the turtle has a much stronger defence than the rest. I suppose it could at least be possible to put some of the other factors down to chance, why you'd think that I don't know though, but the turtle definitely has stronger defence. The wolf also seems to be similar to the lion in speed, and the ape similar to the cow - both slower than the wolf and the lion. If you want, I could upload it as a youtube video Stick out tongue [:P].

    Re: witch creature is best?

The basic fact is all  the creatures  share the same base then there is a cosmetic overlay.
The turtle may be a special case because he is the manditory creature in BOTG Bonus land. But he is still like the others a total wimp until you purchase  lots of upgrades.

    Re: witch creature is best?

As far as minds go, I'd say the differences make no difference in the end Stick out tongue [:P]. I mean, it still takes just something like 30 min of lazy creature care to make him act pretty much how you want.

Some "physical" differences are there though, that's undeniable.

    Re: witch creature is best?

From the facts, the tiger is the best all-rounder.
The wolf is the best for physical things like speed and fighting.
The cow is the best for entertaining and gathering.
The Ape is best for building.
And the lion is an all-rounder, but not as G o o d [Good] as the tiger.

    And she's buying a stairway, to heav'n.....

    Re: witch creature is best?

Every creature has differences in their field. The ape shows knowledge, the cow is G o o d [Good] at gathering while the wolf is G o o d [Good] with physical strength like fighting but nothing beats the lion which is the king of all.
