Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

If you think for one second this closure will stop me from torturing people with The Ultimate TMOer competitions -- YOU'RE WRONG!! However, it will put a little crimp in my style.

My memories? All the work a fellow named Dennis Bazely (aka PamDennis) and I put into a little online magazine called Moviewood-E! For one year we enjoyed turning out something which gave another voice to the community. And, of course, running The Ultimate TMOer for two seasons -- a competition that resulted in over 100 Top Ten films here at TMO!

My regret? That I wasn't able to move faster on creating my new project -- a full-length film that was going to be my farewell to TMO anyway, at least in terms of filmmaking.

I agree it will be sad to see the movies disappear, but I am heartened to know that the forums will remain in place so we can all still promote our films regardless of where they end up online. Over the years, I have been honored to consider the people of this community not as faceless people at the other end of an internet connection but as friends. that is what TMO did for me more than anything else.

G o o d [Good]bye, TMO! It was an amazing experience while it lasted!

When I first came to this site I was an obnoxious self-centered teen. Thanks to the generally positive environment, I'm now an obnoxious elitist adult. Stick out tongue [:P]

I've had the chance to exercise some demons through the power of machinima, whilst appreciating the creative skills of various amateurs. I had few interests other than gaming, but reviewing these works has stoked my passion for writing. I owe so much to this community, it's members, it's moderators, and it's administrators.

I'm Cookiemonster, and your tears fuel my power. ^^ [^^]

For some reason Birdo clearly has the voice of a Japanese man in this trailer. It's like... eating a cake. You expect the cake to be delicious, but when you bite into it, it sounds like a Japanese man. See what I'm trying to say here?

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

Just releasing my movies on here was happy memories for me, even if they didn't exactly get the reception I had hoped. It was the idea that other people would be seeing my creations so it will be very sad to see this site go.

    My greatest memories were:

    1) When I finally got to release the first Justifers Movie this year. I was especially surprised that the sequel is getting more viewers than the original.

    2) When Serial Cop 2 got three reviews each giving five stars. Not meaning to gloat but it seems that fans must feel that this was the best of the trilogy as this one got the most reviews (number 1 got 3 stars and number 3, my least favourite, got five stars.)A stark contrast to what the one player mode of this game gave as it only received one star. Ended up becoming a hit! lol

    3) My only horror movie, Trail Of Blood, being uploaded on here. It had an average reception but what I liked was that it was different to most horrors in that the twist was that one of the two killers was actually the person who, up until then, you as an audience member thought that she was the innocent female lead.

Well, I can't say I am surprised. We all gave it a G o o d [Good] run, and I wish I would have been able to keep involved. To Woody and Sam: G o o d [Good] luck with future projects and keep up the G o o d [Good] work. The Movie Makers and Modders of TMO: You all did a great job keeping this community around for so long.

My Memories: The day the MSH file format was cracked. Many projects with the great members of this community. Founding DCMF. TMOA, the Roger Thong. There are more, but not enough to list in one post.

Regrets? I didn't make enough Mods, nor did I make enough movies. Sad [:(]

    Long live TMO!

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

Ah, sad to see the day when the chicken of reality finally comes home to roost...  Well, at the least, I know I've had a load of fun here and with DCMF.

This was the first game I decided to try my hand at modding... I can remember discussing embarking on this 'modding project' with some friends at dinner, years ago.  It seemed to be a slightly odd announcement at first, but even then I recognized it as a start of a journey, then.  Since, I have learned a ton of technical junk, and made some great lasting friends like Dero, ximplosionx, stvndysn, Tarison, BusStopWilly, and many others that I am probably insulting by forgetting to include here, over the years.  I can't begin to thank them all.

Over this journey, I've been a member of several teams of like-minded individuals who come together to work towards a goal; I've set up and operate my very own fansite which is still going to this day; we've gathered teammates and co-conspirators, cracked innumerable file formats, and written piles of code.  It's been a great journey so far, and I don't think its over yet.

The bad news is TMO is apparently all done, so the easy online uploading from within the game is not available.  But if there has been anything learned over this journey: the restrictions just can't hold us.  We'll break out of the limits.  In this way, the G o o d [Good] news that is TMU was born, and hasn't got any of the restrictions that old TMO did!

More G o o d [Good] news: DCMF is still going to be modding the game!  I, for one, am not done yet, just because the pros are packing it in! Laugh []  I still have to make my own animations and scenes.  If, for nothing else, my own satisfaction. Smoker [:zmoker:]

At any rate, I'm going to be releasing the newest Blender Import/Export scripts very soon, which will bring game-mesh creating up to the state of the art!

In the works is Animation editing in Blender, and full-fledged scene editing is still something I'm determined to accomplish.  Sure, everything has slowed down, here as well as over at DCMF -- but things are still progressing.

So thanks to everyone at Lionhead for the great game, and the great community.  You unlocked many people's dreams of creativity and self-expression...

So, we'll continue building on your framework over at DCMF!

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

I'm going to miss TMO, I had a lot of G o o d [Good] memories, my first review, my first G o o d [Good] review (That took a while) and listening to the industry show for the first time and hearing jase180. Like Monk said this game changed my life. I've met people I would've never met without this game. This was also my first online community, I've joined a couple more since but the TM group is by-far the friendliest, nicest, and most civil group out there.
I've met so many people in so many different parts of the world that I'll probobly only go 1 or 2 times in my life.

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

Well, that's that then. TM was the first game I've seriously modded and I've learnt a lot during the last four years, and I have TM (and a few select individuals) to thank for that. From a simple re-texture, to full-on 3d mesh insertion G o o d [Good]ness, almost everything was possible!

But the curtain must close. But only here. You can still post on the TMUnderground, so it's not all bad!

Thanks to everyone whose path I have crossed during my time modding The Movies.

Thank you to everyone at TMWS, DCMF and of course TMO.

Like the Boss said, we're still working on TM, and I keep making unreleased mods, as well as a few special requests, (that I sometimes don't get finished)

A massive thank you to PeterM and the Lionhead Team, also Sam and Woody for all the help they've given the community.

Is this a G o o d [Good] time to once again ask for Movies related G o o d [Good]ies? Were the meshes created in MAX? If so, give us your import/export scripts! Please!

    Thanks again for everything,

    BusStopWilly™

After a G o o d [Good] idea in this thread we decided to reduce ALL the Prop Shop prices! So every items now costs 10 VC which should make them easy to purchase for everyone.

P.s: the pages still have to be refreshed so the prices aren't correct at the moment, but trust me everything is 10 VC once you put it in your basket!

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

Thats G o o d [Good] news. Thanks Woody and Team.

I was going to talk about my TMO experience at length, but decided against it for some reason. i will say that the whole TMO experience was exciting and different. I met some great people and produced some pretty G o o d [Good] stuff (i like to think at least). The important part of TMO - least we forget, is the COMMUNITY - which will live on after December 5th comes and goes. The Movies Online was an integral part of the whole movies making experience for a long long time, but just because it is going, doesn't mean the ride has to end.

Thanks Lionhead for everything you have done on The Movies, Stunts & Effects and for the community over the years. G o o d [Good] luck in your future endevours.

    cheers

    sisch:
Very sad news, but no surprise to me after all...

    I had some G o o d [Good] times here.

Now that LH and Activision (I guess) call it an end, there are two burning questions on my mind:

Is there a chance that LH will give the modders details on how to make new scenes for the game (or mod it even more completely, with permission), which will help them and speed up their work considerably?

And is there any chance that we might one day own the rights to our movies? Some of us have taken the software far beyond of what I guess LH might ever have dreamed of... and it would be nice for those of us who still love the software, and want to create great new and astonishing films using it, to be able to show them not only on festivals, but also be able to make money out of them, by releasing them, lets say, on Metacafe. I for one would be glad if these things would at least be thought about, especially as loads of machinima nowadays is made combining several programs.
It would be a great advertisement for TM (and thus LH), plus it would be a grand gesture.

    Just my two cents.Smily [:)]
Sam? Woody? I really love this idea. Take it into concideration.

Re: Announced earlier today; Curtain Comes Down

    TFoster:

This day was lingering for a few months now and I was expecting it...

You are killing off a G o o d [Good] franchise...maybe if you advertised the game a bit more it would of done well...You had a G o o d [Good] concept...the best of it's kind and now...you are just letting it die... Tired [:tired:]

I hope you are keeping the forums to the game, This forum is alot too us and if you just killed it off, it would feel like we are being thrown out into the cold...

I hope you at least make some kind of site which displays some of the best work that TMO had, because you should be honoured to have some absolutley fantastic movies and directors on your site and you know what they got for it???

    NOTHING....

They played this as there passion and I think the least you should do is make some kind of Memoriam site to the best movies TMO had...

I believe this is The Movies Official 3rd Anniversary and all them G o o d [Good] times seem... gone....so please cut the whole, 'we are so sorry we ended the site, it ment so much to us' crap because if you really liked it, you would of kept it...

Well anyway, the last thing I can say is, keep the forums and at least make some kind of Memoriam site, unless you 'can't' get funding... but I think you can seeing as you are owned by Microsoft...

Plus, will you still be selling The Movies and The Movies: Stunts and Effects in stores, cause if mine ever stopped working, I might need to get a new copy...

and so from me TFoster on TMO...

    G o o d [Good]NIGHT!

    As he said.... Sad [:(]

You, Lionhead, have make many mistakes with this product, wich is still, after 3 years, by far the very best movie making software ever.

I don't say I would've done better, but you have studied all this stuff and are even paid for it... you failed...

If after three little years this adventure has come to an end, it's only because of you, Lionhead.

You had such a great vision, no other program has been able to achieve even a little 5% of what TheMovies gives as possibilities.

You didn't believe hard enough in this, you looked very far, but not beyond.

Considering the potential of TheMovies and how it finishes, this will be remembered by me as one of my biggest disappointments ever

We all could've gone so much further, so much higher...

And I also want to thank you for these 3 wonderful years I had, TheMovies changed my life. Forever.

i also would like to thank all at lionhead for the movies game, even though i didnt get into the movie side of it, i was introduced to modding and my first forum.

throughout my 3 or so years here ive  learnt a lot and made some great friends along the way.
but this is not the end of the movies game more a new beginning, so i wont say G o o d [Good]bye, i will say a big thanks to lionhead and the team

also i would like to follow on from what bsw said - would the possibility of the tools being released be possible.
