    Daninsky:
The question to me is does he also completly change his fanbase with every new album? Or is he just a musician with a devout enough following that allows him to do that without loosing more money in the process than he's making?
Where G o o d [Good] music goes, people follow. I've got over 140 songs of just Beck alone on my PSP at home, and I can think on one hand all the Beck songs I don't like.

You missed my point, Beck is neither the first nor the last artist to do that, he is among the few who happen to be in a position that allows them to continue doing it without getting broke in the process.

A lot of followers does not automatically translate to huge talent, often it only translates to popularity. However, you kinda say you dislike every other music that is not Beck and yet say that Beck played pratically in every style? Classic [:classic:]

I'm just saying he's very consistent in the quality of music he delivers. There's never any two songs of his that sounds similar, and it's very hard to do that, especially when producing an album that's fixed on one theme. And the reason I say I dislike non-Beck music but enjoy his genre variations is that has a knack for taking elements of past decades or lampooning lyrics and making them better thatn the original. His entire Midnite Vultures album was basically spoofing Prince and the whole sensuality of the 70's/80's with the raunchy lyrics, innuendos, etc, and while some panned it, I found it a funny, smart satire of that era. And when he raps, it''s not about cars and women and all those things rappers on the radio sing about, it's always just random but beautiful images and phrases. Also, I'm not saying he's the best in the whole world (although it certainly would seem that way), becuase I know not everyone likes Beck, let alone as much as I do. Everyone has their own opinions and mine just happens to be that I really really like Beck. And @ Julian - He hasn't made a techno album, but has dabbled in the genre with a few songs such as Timebomb, Get Real Paid, and Ghettochip Malfunction (Hell Yes Remix), among others. No hardcore rave stuff, but you get my drift.

Saying you like only one artist is a little narrowminded dont you think?? I mean its your opinion of cource and I have all the respect for it, but it just seems narrow, its like saying I like only one movie , or game. Surely theres got to be other bands that you like, or listen to?? maybe not as much as beck but still like.

Yeah, it seems kind of ironic to like an artist for expressing an unshared variety in taste.

Oh, I remembered one artist I hate with a fervor for his lyrics alone (I think he falls in one of the many metal subgenres): Danzig Down []

At least Nickelback writes their own music and performs it on their albums, you have to respect that about them. they are not a prefabricated made up  over produced publicity band, they have hit the road performed every night and can be considered veterans. and for the most part at least show a pretty G o o d [Good] level of musicianship.  but music is like tea.  we all have preferences.

Maggot has a point there, if Paris started to write her own songs the performance would still border on torture to listen to. Smily [:)]

Nice selections for guitarist, two in particular catch my eye on your list. Satch and Marty Friedman. What can you say about Satch?  you could set a metronome to his time and just count. his riffs are both emotive and technical.  Marty Friedman is not as well known to most of the public but his use of exotic scales and vibrato is very unique. I dig the hungarian minor mode and the gypsy mode he used on  the album Dragons kiss. you might wanna check out Satriani's new band Chickenfoot, man that band can swing. check out the song down the drainWink [;)]

G o o d [Good] point? But would you consider Rob Zombie himself a band if he has other artist contribute to his work?
Same with Gorillaz, they have one or two people regularly in their band, with De La Soul helping them with their rapping and godknowswhatelse.

Pretty sure he made a band later just called Ozzy Osbourne... Kind of like the band with Marilyn Manson in is just called Marilyn Manson.

I truly meant no disrespect by what I said.  from my own point of view (a musicians point of view.)is simply  how rare it is for you to write your own music perform it in the studio. without the help of studio musicians  hit the road and go platinum on a multitude of albums.  You have to respect that. it  requires a great deal of talent.  whether or not you like the music, you can respect the conviction and work ethic of a band like that.

No issue man. it was my bad because I was not concise enough in making my point.   Embarrassed [:$]   from a musicians point of view you just respect it. but Music is art and what is beautiful to one may be rubbish to another. that is why I have not specified any one band or artist that I don't like.  There are people that are in bands and call themselves musicians and their music to me is to say the least lacking. however they must have something going if they are signed and people buy their stuff.  I suppose anyone having a memory must also have tremendous humility. they made it I did not.  they had to have something going on.

Re: Music you dislike and why.

I dislike the noise produced by talentless hacks, which passes for music these days. To me music, by definition, requires passion. If a "musician" is not passionate about what he's doing, then it's not music.

Just a bit curious what definition of music includes a requirement of passion.

i hate anything that has to do with being satanic with a passion , but i do like metal, christian metal(think dream theater) and which ever category the red hot chille peppers are in because they are awesome

I don't really like to label music. but I would not really consider DT a metal band, they are more of a progressive rock band. yeah they incorporate some heavy riffs but  they are kind of outside the box. they are one of my favorite bands by the way.Smily [:)]

You haven't been listening to right groups, try Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, and Grandmaster Flash. Many of these artists were conducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.
