My apologies, inspiration has fled from me for the moment. I've contacted the local authorities though and they say they have got a lead. My hopes are high that my inspiration will be returned before too long.

    Re: Quick note

Terribly, terribly, terribly sorry. A combination of no internet at my current residence and a huge and ever increasing amount of work that I have to actually do or risk failure. I took a break tonight, and I'm going to pay for it in the morning.

    ::strolls in and looks around::

Pardon the intrusion... but this was the only thread I saw that seems to have any action going on in it as far as roleplay.  Can anyone help out a newcomer and give me an idea where there might be some play I can get into?

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

*BattleF08 emerges from beneath what seems like a meter of dust, behind Steelhyaena. Since he does so silently, he goes unnoticed, till he lets out a cough to inform the guest of his presence*

Hey there! Unfortunately you've come too late to join any real RP in progress. The one this discussion thread belongs to ran for years, beginning during the days of Black & White 1, but it's recently fallen silent as people just stopped posting. It ran spread over three Alignment Threads(plus a temporary thread to finish an unfinished storyline).

Now, it's survived long periods of seeming death before in the past, and has come back strong time and time again, so there's no telling if someone won't try to bring it back at some point, but they would have a big job ahead of them. I don't see it easily happening without Kaiser and Iacobus actively on the team, for example.

Unfortunately your idea of a new thread doesn't have any bigger chance of succeeding. This forum is pretty dead, and the threads here always have the tendency to die. That's exactly why I opposed this RP moving to a specific RP Forum when that forum was created in OT.

Problem is, not that many visit this place. If you really want to start a B&W2 RP thread you have two choices, equally difficult to accomplish.
    1. You try to draw back the old team of players. The advantage is the Alignment Threads have players who are G o o d [Good] writers, experienced RP-ers and a well established universe to use and explore. Disadvantage is that once the dead weight starts hanging on the team again, with some people taking ages to post, the posting and motivation slows down and it could die again. New good players should join the ranks probably and things need to be kept going.
    2. Second option is a restart, as you have begun to consider. Problem is getting enough people. You can forget enough decent players coming to this place to start one, if you keep the recruiting efforts limited to this forum area. I would advise advertising in your signature and posting in a lot threads, all over the place as commercial, and actively recruit in the fanfic forums for G o o d [Good] writers, if any are still active there. If you feel bold, I'd also advertise in OT and the main B&W2 forum. Will draw in players, but might irk some mod a little.

I wish you luck if you decide to proceed with any of the options. I can't really help you more than that. Well, except if you pick option 1, since I can contact most of the old gang. If you turn option 2 into a succes, I'll probably join as well. I've missed the B&W RP. Spent a lot of G o o d [Good] times in that universe...

::turning around and considering the dusty fellow with cool scarlet eyes::

Well... you and I make two, don't we?  I know of at least two others, members of a sort of roleplaying tribe of my own, that would follow me, regardless of what realm I play in.  They are not technically players of B&W2, but they are pretty swift off the mark.

Difficult?  Maybe for some... but I have a way of managing to make roleplay happen even in the oddest of circumstances.  I will speak to my pack and see if they want to spend time with me here.

Has anyone tried to take a RP here into realtime?  As in, chat-based?  I have found that that is a way to keep interest from flagging, and it also makes people think on their feet.

You write well.  If you do not spend much time here, where do you play?  I'd like to see some more of your work. Smily [:)]

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

*As if on cue, a shape then enters the thread through the window. When anybody placed a window there remains a mystery, but most likely it was done very recently because the door was stuck. And it should be mentioned that whoever did it probably did it with a pickaxe. In the future, the door should be maintained a little better to prevent the need for such property damage.*

*Of course, the character could also just have kicked the door open, but that's a rather cliché thing to do, isn't it? And it might have resulted in splinters too. Or a broken leg.*

Chat-based, eh? I'm a bit of a traditionalist, I suppose, but I like the idea of posting as opposed to just chatting. It allows me to overthink things, with in particular descriptions and such. We have used MSN (to some extent) to communicate with each other and decide on what our characters said so that large portions of conversations could be put into single posts as opposed to a post for every single answer, though. Classic [:classic:]

Anyhow, it sounds interesting enough. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread and the RP board for now, even if this forum gives me more technical troubles than any other has ever done. Why oh why did they have to change. Tired [:tired:]

A note on B&W 2 RPs: There have been a relatively large number of those. Many of them didn't last for very long, unlike the Alignment threads. You'll need a pretty dedicated team of RPers to keep it alive. You'll also want to keep in mind that people have different ideas about such RPs. The standard on these boards is that a god has a physical form (usually either a little taller than humans or (at most) twice the size of one), though again, that depends on the RP. As such, you may want to talk to other participants before actually beginning, and set up a few standards and 'rules' (though I hate the usage of the word 'rules' here). This may save you a few troubles and headaches later on. Just my thoughts on this all. Classic [:classic:]

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

And it would appear we have already 3 members. 4 actually, as I have also just contacted E v i l [Evil]Fred, who also seems quite willing to return to B&W2 RP. I figured I'd already try to contact others to help you out on this quest you seem to have begun.

I have to agree with Solar that going over to chat-based would not suit this RP very well, as writing personal stories and side-stories as part of the storyline are just as much a part of this RP as is personal interaction in its many forms. It would be hard to convert to real-time without dropping much of the established concepts. Added to that is the fact that the players are often not online at the same times, as the players for example live in different parts of the world and are online at different frequencies. However, as Solar pointed out, it can be useful in working out dialogue in posts in conversations on MSN sometimes, so you don't have to place words in each other's mouth and the interaction flows along nicely.

You will still find your creativity and adaptability tested in other situations however, when it comes to personal interaction, or even combat, where often the one who adapts best to survive and attack within the limits of his character, using proper RP etiquette, will emerge victorious. So it's not just about combat skill or power. There have been a lot of battles during the years this RP has run, and I remember none of them having an unsatisfactory ending for those involved, while playing by these rules. Of course, combat is just one aspect. Kaiser for example has, until recently, practically always avoided straight combat, using minions, diversions, plots and escape routs to avoid having to personally face the weapons of his heroic enemies.

Might I invite you to add me to MSN? (battle_fortress@hotmail.com). I could help you get into contact with everyone, as your convincing power is required. I won’t succeed at convincing all of them myself I'm afraid. I could also help introduce you and possibly your friends into the B&W2 RP. I wrote a beginning of a guide once, though it would need updating and changing by now. If the RP does take off again, I may finish it.

*brushes some dust of his outfit*
Thanks for the compliment by the way. I have role-played here for years, but these days my RP experience comes mostly from a tabletop RP game I am working on with a group of friends. Sort of like Dungeons & Dragons, but a lot better. We have a much better system set-up based much more on logic and much more involved RP than I have ever experienced in other RPGs. We of course play-test many campaigns and have created an elaborate world and even timelines. We may release it to the public at some time in the future. Of course it helps that two of the group members are artists. (Shameless plug for art of both artists, recently married: Click here and here. Both pictures depict moments from our RP)

Well it seems we’re off to a somewhat promising start! I certainly hope we can continue onwards just as smoothly.

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

LOVE the RPed intro, that was hilarious!

I will definitely keep what you have said in mind, in regards to having things move mostly on the boards.  I am already thinking on the parameters of operation (I hate the word 'rules' myself).  I like the idea of having the gods close to human-sized.

I have a few other ideas, but I am probably going to place those in their own thread--that'll be the initial post to start the actual game.

Everyone that has come on board with this, so far, has been so cool!  I'm excited!

One thing I think I need to do is set this up in such a way as to include a couple of people I know from other places.  The three I am thinking of are incredible roleplayers, but have not actually played the games--they'd be coming in because of me, arrogant as that might sound. Stick out tongue [:P]

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

I just sent you a message over MSN!  It'll be interesting to see what we can cook up.  I can see what you and Solar are saying regarding trying to do this over chat, and I do agree to a point.  The main worry I had, you already touched on in your post, though--that was dialogue and direct character interaction, and I think we can indeed make that work over MSN.

Do people generally choose just the gods of the already-present nations in B&W2, or have people created their own personae?  ::fluffing my hair:: There are no goddessess, you see...

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

We have created our own gods. Kaiser for instance is/was the E v i l [Evil] mastermind, Battle is the ninja, I'm currently miscellaneous... Wink [;)]

If we didn't do so, we'd have too few gods. I mean, how many non-player gods were there in the two games (+ expansions)? There was Lethys, Khazar, Nemesis in B&W 1 and the Undead God in B&W 2 BOTG. Besides, it's a lot more interesting when you RP with your own characters; as you can shape and develop your godly character in any way you want. Classic [:classic:]

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

Yes, that's true. We have not limited ourselves to the gods available to us, but we have tried to limit ourselves to the game content (eg. the amount and kind of races available such as Aztec, Greek, Japanese and Norse, but not for creatures, where we have almost anything from tigers and turtles to [skeletal] spiders and dragons (though we try to exclude flying creatures)). That might be a bit tricky for any additional RPers who haven't actually played the game, but if they RP as G o o d [Good] as you say, they should just read up on a couple of pages and be quite into the loop on how things are done Smily [:)].

I'm Amaunator by the way (Ammy in short), a used-to-be avid poster (nobody laugh!) of this alignment RP and I'd be happy to step in again to fill the obvious void my absence would cause Wink [;)]. You needn't worry about my writing skills, I'd say, but since it's uncourteous to toot one's own horn I'll let you decide for yourself: World of Murloc, if you're familiar with Blizzard's World of Warcraft, you'll have at least an inkling about what's going on in this RP. It was set up by the writer who owns that forum and with whom I (and a departed GM)  had created a structure where posters could just post anything they wanted within the story bounds preset by the writer's own fan-fiction, and from there on the GMs would coordinate a bit. It never réally got off the ground. I think we cuddled them too much... But you're free to read my handiwork there.

Other than the horrid advertising, I'm glad you're willing to put your shoulders on just any B&W2 RP! Despite the franchise's faults and the developer's blunders along the way, the ideas and motives it creates for writing are boundless, have great potential and could evoke strong imagery and characters.

My signature leads to a wiki specifically about all the characters. Battle's profile, if I remember correctly, leads to website he put together with specifics about how the RP itself works. Which might be handy for your pals.

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

Ah, I think you mean the B&W storage geocities website, Orcid. Not all data is up to date (think of character profiles), but there's a lot of useful information to be found there. Classic [:classic:]

  •  01-16-2009, 13:28 3284995 in reply to 3284977

Re: ::strolls in and looks around::

Indeed Orcid gave us a Wiki-type site to use for character profiles and such. Supremely useful, compared to the site I ran alone. Didn't give out the link yet, because indeed the information on the B&WStorage site is horribly outdated, and many of the guidelines mentioned in the new player guide will probably have to be relaxed or even removed if we are to rebuild the RP and make is more easily accessible for new players.

Update time I guess. So far we got at least 6 members on the team, including SenileSkunk and E v i l [Evil]Fred who haven't posted yet, but are eager to return. Perhaps new players like the one SteelHyaena's other thread attracted will join and same goes for her 2 friends. That'd be quite a team already. We are still missing some, including Kaiser who, as the main plotter of the RP, is of course of major priority for contacting. I'm just sending him an e-mail now.

I'm also installing B&W2 again. I figure if we get started again, I might as well finally make that map I intended on making!

More updates will undoubtably follow soon.

"Clamour for the Kaiser all you will: he cannot hear you! I have seen to that, or have you forgotten? I have cast him far beyond your reach, for the moment. In time, you shall join him in oblivion and be the audience in the concert of his screams. I apologise for this indignity, but it is inevitable: if you would continue you to serve E v i l [Evil] then I cannot possibly allow you to live. All those that are slaves to your malice must die as well, for the G o o d [Good] of all. For the sake of my people, I shall make a murderer of myself. Salvation will be won upon the point of a blade."

Hello all, I hear excitement is about. I think I could well owe people replies within the threads and do feel free to point out where and I'll get right on it.

*The place is certainly starting to look livelier, not to mention more comfortable now that furniture is being uncovered from beneath the dust. Spirits may be high among the arrivals, but outside storms are brewing. The time has come to prepare, before going out into the world and facing the turmoil. Great challenges are ahead, and work remains to be done before they can be faced on The Boards. BattleF08 puts his broom back into a closet and takes from it his ninja gear. Smoke bombs, throwing knives, grappling hook and of course the Holy sword Corona, its light aura flaring brightly*

Well, I'll go out first. I'll try to find out exactly where we left off and make a small summary post in every thread so that we know the situation we'll be starting from. I'll work as fast as I can, but may encounter the unexpected. Wish me luck everyone...

Ah and SteelHyaena, I would really like to speak with you on MSN again to discuss the best ways of getting new players into the RP, as well as giving you a decent introduction. We talked a lot last time, but I barely told you anything about the RP itself that would make it easier for you to take a determining role in its direction, or even just join easily. I hope to see you online again, though I understand the difference in time zone may be complicating things.

    Re: Dusty in here...

Sorry for double-posting. Just figured I owed everyone an update. Judging from everyone I've talked to online, practically all of us are ready to return, and even some members from the past are considering a return! The summaries are taking me longer than expected. I had hoped to have them up already. Just a few pages left to read through. I have indeed started on a map of The Boards in the B&W Landscape editor and it is progressing nicely.

The question I had for everyone is, do you think we should be actively recruiting new members? If so, how and where?(signatures, fanfic board, B&W2 board, OT, etc?) I mean, we have a great team now, but we could perhaps use a few more on the team. The problem is of course that it is hard to get new members in this section of the forum where people hardly visit. I'm curious about everyone's opinion.

  •  01-23-2009, 11:01 3291299 in reply to 3290868

    Re: Dusty in here...

I'm not completely certain that we should recruit like that, but if we did I suppose it would be in OT. It'd be unfortunate if it went to another board and was banished for being irrelevant. I don't exactly frequent the other parts of the forum however, so perhaps I am mistaken.

  •  01-23-2009, 15:57 3291473 in reply to 3290868

    Re: Dusty in here...

I wouldn't mind new members, but I'd definately like it if they had a little... Well, skill in writing first. Preferably, a little experience in roleplaying. The 3-sentence posts always annoy me, for one. Stick out tongue [:P]

As such, I'm not sure I like the idea of active recruitment, as from my experience, it usually leads to a number of new RPers who barely ever stick around and prefer the idea of short, almost factual posts as opposed to describing things. I don't expect people who join us to be 'perfect' or anything, but a basic grasp of the english language (which includes grammar and spelling), and preferably some experience with RPing (or at least storywriting) would be prefered.

Note that if you want to actively recruit members however, the most likely place to find RPers who are capable enough would be in the B&W 2 Fan-fiction board. Of course, the place is also deserted, so it's doubtful many people will notice it. Stick out tongue [:P]

Lastly, if you worry about one of the moderators/admins not liking the idea of recruiting new RPers outside of the RP board, just ask one (for instance, Sam) for his permission. Problem solved. Stick out tongue [:P]

Now stop bothering me to post when we're not even properly RPing yet, Battle. Cheeky [:cheeky:]
