    Re: What are you playing?

i also just downloaded the new Wallace and Gromit demo from the Telltale Games website, and am disgusted to see they've stolen InteractoVision off me (for those who remember that far back in The Movies...)

There's 6 hits for interactovision in the whole of Google - 3 for me, three for them. But I got there first, so I'm gonna sue the bastards.

Is there a cheap lawyer in the house?Smily [:)]

    Re: What are you playing?

After playing some more hours of last remnant i actually kind of enjoy it.

But then i installed Republic : the revolution again and realized how damm G o o d [Good] that is even with an average score of 62 on metacritic.

    Re: What are you playing?

Since acquired a DS Lite and then scrounged up a load of games from Ebay, I've almost completely failed to play the GTA:Chinatown that I bought it for. From what I've played so far, it really is quite remarkable. Recommended for all (age cert notwithstanding, of course..), despite apparently poor sales so far...

I have, hovever, been playing Prof Layton's Curious Village and apart from being absolutely convinced the Prof is up to no G o o d [Good] with that small boy he drags about with him, am quite liking it. See, it manages a trick that Puzzle Quest did - it's does a few things really quite crappily, but together they work very well. Puzzle quest nailed a rubbish gem game and an atrocious RPG together, and somehow it was Genius. Prof Layton nails a string of feeble mini-games together with an absolutely appealing Adventure Game, and again it's brilliant! Can't put the bloody thing down, in fact...

Also quite taken with Hotel Dusk:Room 215, so thanks to whoever recommended that to me. Not what you'd call an exciting game, but it's really very engrossing. Love the stylised pencil characterisations as well. I can see it being a little (or a lot) slow paced for some people, but if you've got any interest in interactive fiction whatsoever this is an essential title to try. Excellent stuffSmily [:)]

EDIT - Oh, and the Call of Duty game I got free with it (World at War, i think) is terrible.

EDIT EDIT - Thinking of getting an R4 card (or similar) for it as well btw. No, not for piracy, getting one becasue I think the DS might make a G o o d [Good] eBook reader. Anyone know anything about the homebrew scene for the DS and know any G o o d [Good] stuff? I've no real desire to watch video or listen to music on it as I've already got a G o o d [Good] MP3 player, but other interesting stuff might be, er, interesting...

Er, actually that bold bit should read appalling. That one letter changes the sentence quite a bit thinking about it...

    Re: What are you playing?

Woo! Third post in a row here - it's begining to read like my personal diarySmily [:)]

    2nd April

    Dear Diary

Met up with P again last night. Went out for a lovely meal at that new restaurant in town. Food was delightful as was the wine and we stole a few breadsticks to feed the ducks with as we strolled through the park afterward. It was very romantic. Of course, the lights don't go on in the park until 10 since the cutbacks, so P tripped over a rock in the dark and fell in the river, but we laughed about it when I found her washed up unconscious on the bank half an hour later and revived her. Glad I went on that First aid course now!
Things are getting serious with P. She's hinted that she wants me to move in with her, but I'm not sure I'm ready yet. Should I really commit to her before she's willing to tell me the rest of the letters in her name?

Also played Broken Sword:The Director's Cut for a bit. Imagine my surprise when it didn't start with the usual lines "Paris in the Fall..." and cut to the cafe! Instead you now start out playing as Nicole - this is brilliant! At last I get to play out my teenage fantasy of being a sassy young Frenchwoman! I know mother told me never to speak of that again, but this is just between me and you, eh diary?

Game looks G o o d [Good] so far, anyway. Not played much of it but it's already a lot better than that travesty of a Gameboy conversion they did. Apart from having a new storyline playing as the bird and a load of art by Dave Gibbons of Watchmen fame, this one also has the video footage that makes the entire game make sense...

    Re: What are you playing?

Yes, but it's one of those diaries that I like reading, so continue.

    Hmm [^o)]

I've been playing Beyond G o o d [Good] and E v i l [Evil], which I bought off GOG.com. Apart from the occasional problem with the camera doing random epileptic seizures and generally being a pain in the backside, it's been quite fun. Although, I am up to the end boss fight already and intend on finishing him off in about ten minutes or so, so the shortness is a little annoying, but I can see myself coming back to it in a few months to collect everything. Did that with Psychonauts too, simply had to go back and get every single figment, emotional baggage etc. Hmm [^o)]

Once I've done that, it's on to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade to conquer Kronos as the Eldar. Go me. Yes, I can't afford the Australian prices for games, so I'm not getting Dawn of War II yet. Stupid retarded Australian gaming laws.

Edit: Disappointing ending. Would have liked a bit of dialogue to wrap things up a little. Well, apparently there'll be a sequel.

    Re: What are you playing?

I picked up Left 4 Dead on Saturday and have been hammering away at that. It's a fantastic game with human players, AI not so much. I don't think it has enough to it to be a fully priced retail game, I was lucky enough to get it for £20 which to me is just right, because playing that game with AI when Xbox Live is quiet is such a pain in the *** sometimes.

Also started playing Resident E v i l [Evil] 5 on professional co-op and **** me is it hard towards the end. It's not so bad once you get infinite ammo on most of the guns between you and a friend, but it's very frustrating to keep starting the same checkpoint over & over and failing miserably.

Steering away from zombie games, I picked up the new Journey DLC for Rock Band which is fantastic fun and I finally finished the story of GTA: The Lost & Damned which I was most impressed with. I'll probably keep playing both GTA & L4D until the weekend hits and then try to finish Resident E v i l [Evil] 5 again.

    Re: What are you playing?

You realize how bad ass that game series is, unfortunately the graphics required are kind of strong, especially with the new one Empire Total War, which I couldn't even play at all my computer simply could not take it.

    Re: What are you playing?

Against my better judgement I got hold of a copy of Pokemon Diamond over the weekend.

My life is now a terrifying and inescapable cage of Jpop, dark obsessive collecting and child-friendly Bear-Baiting, only broken by occasional trips to the toilet. Although I sometimes just don't bother going, such is it's thrall.

So now I find myself confused and rejected by the world, despised and alone with only my faithful sidekicks Rochester, Norton, Takei, Hudson, Mr Wonk and Pigflaps to console me as my life collapses. I am estranged from reality.

    Thanks, Nunberry.

Persona 4 - it's mental, very very strange and this is the accessible side of the Shin Megami Tensei series.  Also fun and different and it took up a lot of my time yesterday.

    Re: What are you playing?

    you calling me a nerd?!

just cause I'm a gamer and a programmer and...

Yeah, you should check it out.  It's very G o o d [Good], the first few hours are very restrictive - you're basically along for the ride with one or two bits of interaction, it doesn't sound great but it allows them to immerse you in the world, set things up and show you your place in it - you're not just dumped in and told to get on with it.

Even at 4 hours or so of play things are still being introduced, the social system was recently introduced (about hour 3) now it's things like jobs.

The game is split into days & the days into sections - e.g. on days with school you can only do on activity (after school) be it going into the TV (dungeons), doing things with friends, doing your part time job, doing something on your own (reading, studying).

    Eurogamer review - http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/shin-megami-tensei-persona-4-review

And to make it more acceptable you enter the other world through TV sets rather than accessing the 13th (25th) hour by shooting yourself in the head like Persona 3

    Re: What are you playing?

God, I remember Persona3 - brilliant game full of imaginative touches. But about 15 hours in I just couldn't help but feel the social system was subtly trapping me in an abusive relationship with my PS2. I mean, I wanted to switch on and play with it, but the needy demands of my cronies were just leeching my will to live. I swear one more trip to that sodding ramen shop to keep what's-his-face happy while I jsut wanted to get on with saving the world and I would have rammed a chopstick up my nose and into my brain.

Which works similarly to shooting yourself in the head, thankfullySmily [:)]

    Re: What are you playing?

So after having the game sit on my shelf, still in its plastic wrap, for a number of months now I finally opened up my copy of Call of Duty 4 to give it a whirl.  Can you believe this was my first Call of Duty game?  Wasn't really sure what to expect but I dove headfirst and finished the game in a couple of days.

I've always been a fan of first person shooters, typically the more cinematic ones.  Aside from the obvious mentions of Halo and Half-Life I'd have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this game.  I was expecting a "Go here, save hostage, shoot bad guys, etc." game where you're still relatively distant from the story in any meaningful sense.

Some portions of the game played out like an episode from the TV series, "24".  Not sure if that's a G o o d [Good] thing or a bad thing though, heh heh.  But for reasons still unknown to me I actually enjoyed the single player experience quite a bit.  I was playing on the harder difficulty setting where any stray bullet seemed to kill you.  And I played the game with the lights off and headphones cranked up.  People were yelling at me to give suppressing fire, to flank this or that, and various other orders.  Meanwhile I'm getting shot at and I still haven't figured out from where, I'm just frantically trying to find cover.  A helicopter crashes overhead at some point but to be honest I barely noticed it amidst trying to not get shot and trying to listen for "ta-dink dink" sounds of grenades landing near me.

The game isn't perfect by any means but I really enjoyed it for what it was.  And it was my first "war" game too, and I felt it did a G o o d [Good] job of showing the confusion and madness that being in a battlezone can bring.  And the story and cinematic feel of the game was really nice too.  Had lots of "woah" moments.

One thing I thought was really interesting was that every single achievement was single-player oriented.  Most games (Halo, Fable II, Guitar Hero, etc.) have a G o o d [Good] number of their achievements based on multiplayer.  Call of Duty, while having multiplayer, had no multiplayer achievements whatsoever.  From the looks of it one could get every achievement without having an internet connection on their Xbox, which was a nice change from the norm.

Overall G o o d [Good] game.  Was really pleased with my first Call of Duty experience

I'm playing Zork again. Well, I barely played it the first time since I was very young and preferred games that had pictures. I'm blaming Matneee by the way. No idea why.

Try Beyond Zork if you can get hold of it. Genuinely one of the best games ever made. Well, if you're into that sort of thing, at any rateWink [;)]
Also a curious mix of Text Adventure and RPG that somehow works brilliantly. No idea why. Thing about the Infocom games though is that they always came with clues in the box that you need for finishing the game...

    Re: What are you playing?

Started playing Halo 3 again, since the new Mythic maps were released. The maps are a lot better than i was expecting. The only down side of course is my friend is currently away for a bit so i'm having to play the new maps alone (none of my other friends enjoy the game, doh). Still i managed to get the Extermination achievement earlier and it really did make me feel great because i got it on the default Sandbox setup, so it wasn't on griffball. I also did it simply with 2 plasma grenades and my battlerifle, without needing to use the rocket launchers on the map.

I've borrowed Resi 5, in exchange for my Oblivion (not my choice) But! I've been playing it more than the person who asked to borrow it off their friend. Stick out tongue [:P]

I did try the demo, thought it was insane trying to kill a man with an axe that size. afraid [:afraid:] But then I got the game, and I found out you can run away, yay! Really love it, makes me wanna play all the resi games, as this is my first real resi experience, the only other one I played was Resident E v i l [Evil] Survivor which was a fps kinda like house of the dead.

I've also recently got Lego indiana jones, always hated puzzles but I loves this game, the puzzles are nice and simple I might get lego batman after I finish it. I got The force unleashed with Indiana, finished it three times since then, really love it , also done the DLC for it twice was such an amazing game really thought Star Wars needed this type of story for a long time, and showing how awesome a jedi can be. Stick out tongue [:P]

Err completed Bully scholarship Ed 100%, Lost Odyssey is another I've recently got just up to the crimson forest looking for a kid my first turn based rpg for a long, long time. Never have played a FF game so I'm new to the feel of the game but love the calmness of it and the dreams are so sad. Sad [:(]

Fallout, GTAand Oblivion DLC, Overlord DLC and Indiana are all on my to do list. I've been quite active gamer lately. Stick out tongue [:P] As I spend all my birthday money on games. Crazy [] tried to get left for dead the other day but got asked for ID. Angry [:@] I look too young. Sad [:(]
