One of my most favourite bands ever:

The Peepshows - "Surrender My Love"

Nothing to be heard from them since about 3-4 years. Not if they still exist, live or anything ... not even their Label seems to know. Last live sign was a side project called Franky Lee with some members from Millencolin and Randy. So if you live in Örebro (Sweden) or near there, take a look around if they still exist. Wink [;)]

    Gamma Ray by Beck

One of the many very G o o d [Good] songs off of Beck's brand-spankin' new album, Modern Guilt. Very cool 60's pop vibe with a great guitar and some synths thrown in for G o o d [Good] measure. Short and sweet. Big Smile [:D]

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Alrighty-o, I think I can spare you all me posting in detail how I'm listening to every song on Modern Guilt (The first Beck album I can safely say I like every single song on) and give you my two favorites on the album.

Volcano is my favorite off the album. Starts off with a beggining that sounds like a crawling bug on a wooden floor, and turns into a beautiful and haunting slow song filled with melodic strings and some amazing lyrics, such as "I've drinking all these tears so long, all I've got left is the taste of salt in my mouth." If you close your eyes it sort of takes you off to somewhere dreamy.

My second favorite song is Replica. Very cool electronic drum beat (Thanks Danger Mouse! Big Smile [:D]) and upbeat tempo in a wierd sort of way. The whole song, especially the chorus, has a New Age feel to it. It ends with a spectacular medley of strings and what I can only assume is the traingle.

My top 5 Modern Guilt Favs:

    1. Volcano
    2. Replica
    3. Profanity Prayers
    4. Gamma Ray
    5. Orphans

Even at 38, Beck's still got it! Smily [:)]

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I'm currently listening to Viva la Vida Coldplays latest album.

It is thoroughly brilliant and wonderfully oblique both tonally and lyrically.

Although I do like the title track, it lacks that certain oomph in the chorus that I've come to enjoy from Coldplay. Don't do what I did and expect and electric guitar to boost it up a bit. However, on second listening, without Previous-Coldplay-Sound-Blinkers I enjoyed it much more.
My favourite song is definitely Violet Hill. The continuous 4 beats in a bar all-instruments-playing-one-note section at the end of the each chorus is great and unexpected in the first listen through.
Chris Martin sings at a much lower register to what I'm used to, but his voice just seems to be special whatever octave he chooses. The last song on X&Y  'Till Kingdom Come' is the only previous song I can think of where he stays at a low register for the entire duration. He's great at Falsetto, but I'm glad to see him using his full range in Viva La Vida (Or Death and all his Friends).

The melody for each track is consistently unexpected. Chris doesn't sing where you think he'll sing, which is great, especially when I've listened to Coldplay too much and the old songs have become so predictable.

I think my second favourite track on the album must be Cemeteries of London. Again, Chris is singing on a much lower register than he normally does (except for the chorus). I don't quite know what time signature the song uses, but the beat is rather irregular. Every time I play this song I get goose pimples.

Not typical Coldplay, but then who in hell wants a million and one versions of 'Clocks'?

The only thing worse that beating a dead horse is betting on one.

    The Golden Age by Beck

A slow song from his Sea Change days. Love the beginning with the mixture of the acoustic guitar and the glockenspiel the most. I'm not really a big fan of the album, but I must say that I do like this song and "Guess I'm Doing Fine". "Lost Cause" isn't bad, too. I mainly just like the video, though. Stick out tongue [:P]

Brainless Wankers - "The Idols Are Dead"

Another one of those bands that quit not so long time ago. I feel, I will never get to listen to new music again that suits my taste if the rapid decline of bands I use to listen to continues. Sad [:(]

Re: What are you listening to right now?

    E-Pro by Beck

Kick-A$$ song off his album Guero, with some sweet guitar likks and a great drum beat that is actually sampled from the Beastie Boys's song "So What'cha Want". Sort of a sci-fi feel to the last 1 & 1/2 minutes, but the whole song is just awesome. The chorus is my favorite part, considering it's just "Na na na na na na na...". Sure it's not the greatest Beck song in existence, but I'd say it's close.

    Trivia!

    • This song has been announced to be on the track list for Rock Band 2, although whether it will be a cover band singing it or not has yet to be determined.
    • Coincidentally, I will now be buying Rock Band 2. Smily [:)]
    • It is the greatest music video ever made. Not even arguably (sp?). Goes best with acid.
    • The only thing more fun than watching the video is describing the video to friends. "So anyway, Beck's head gets pecked off by some birds and gets dropped in a washing machine, and then..."

    Pennywise - "One Reason"

Still the best Punk album of this year! I also hope to see Pennywise Live some time because it's one of the few bands I listen to that I haven't seen.

À propos Live, I'm looking forward seeing Millencolin (again, after a long time) in Autumn this year. Yeah for Millencolin being on tour in Germany and yeah for me! Wink [;)]

Not sure about seeing Anti-Flag on their Germany tour next month because with a new job you may not want to go on vacation in the first two weeks and the concert is on a monday. Maybe it simply means less sleep for me that day. Sad [:(]
