On the consoles casual games work well because that is were the audience is, on the PC their is not much casual market though, so this must have been failed. The people playing casual games simply don't bother with playing on a PC ... to complicated to start for them.
Eh??? You are aware that casual games like Peggle, Bookworm, Mystery PI etc make a frankly embarrassing amount of cash on the PC platform? If anything they're more successful than 'Gamer' games. Casual Gaming is very much alive and thriving on PCs - just look in any office and count the number of people furtively logging onto the PopCap website - and that's doing the comparatively 'complicated' method of playing games online. Then the go home, go to the website, and hit the bright button marked 'Download' to play some more... Considering the huge installed base of relatively low-spec PCs, and the demand for casual games, it's not surprising casual games do so well on the platform.

I was thinking of Full Price titles over 30 € on release of course. The games you are speaking of are about 5-15 € I would say. I am well aware that browser games and the Windows included games are massively played by the "casual" players. But they sure as hell will not buy a PC game and install it on their machine because they can not figure out if the system requirments on the box are met by their system or not. Some may buy such a game nonetheless, but only to recognise it is not working because their integrated graphic card does not support Pixel Shader 3.0 or they complain about the performance or the graphic quality without ever thouching the game detail options or taking a look into the manual (if the game even has one). Wink [;)]

That's lunatic. You're essentially saying that Casual Gamers don't buy 'Gamer' Games, therefore Casual Games should be released on consoles. You can't just suddenly cut Casual Games out of the PC Gaming statistics because casual games cost less, or don't use shaders, or are low spec, nor because casual gamers are sophisticated enough to embrace alternative delivery methods, such as Digital Delivery - unlike a some 'Gamer' gamers, for example.

    But I digress...

EDIT - Was about to say I'm looking forward to Legends of Zork, the non-boxed browser game, but it looks like it's up and running now. YaySmily [:)]

exactly, so called casual gaming far outstrips anything else on the PC.  Buying/playing 'real' PC games puts you in a minority when it comes to gaming on the PC.

Which is what I was on about with looking at Spore.

The minority that was focussed on by making it a "real" PC game was not pleased by the casual approach and the majority of people that would have been the target audience instead, aka the casual player, reside either on the consoles, handhelds or are at the low-end market of the PC. Not many of those people would think of going through the hassle of installing a game to their PC, especially not with all the negative reports about the DRM on Spore.

Will Wright himself admitted this in an interview I read lately. He said he was well surprised by the audience that is currently playing Spore and that he would not have thought that it was so massively rejected by the classic PC gamers. By the way, I also heard Mr. Wright left Maxis/EA to get more freedom for creating new ideas in the media industry instead of focussing on gaming. Maybe a G o o d [Good] choice. Tongue Tied [:S]

Back on topic, I actually don't look forward to anything new ... expecting the same still: Dragon Age, Mafia 2, StarCraft 2 or Diablo 3. Whatever comes first, but I am not expecting anything big anymore. I am a bit depressed on how every new game turns out and it seems I can not be pleased fully anymore. I expect more dissapointment to come. Disappointed [:isappoin] Lately I had more fun creating facility designs at work in a professionel 3D graphic designer (Catia) than I had with playing games ... a shame really.

    AjjuMa:
Yeah, I know, I'm just saying if it were to ever go back into production, it would definitely be a game I'd look forward to.

Not really, the problam would be that they would have to change alot of the plot to make it for a game, and they would have to dd parts and villians that didnt actually appear in the movie too. Plus with Heath being dead theyd have to hire a new voice actor for parts and use audio files from the movie for the rest, I think it would end in a mess, most movie tie-ins do, with the exception of Spider Man 2 that is. The Batman Begins game wasnt bad though but I only payed £3.50 for the game so I was happy with the quality for a game so cheap, it was fun and had some interesting ideas, but nothing ground breaking and it was way too short.

Any ways besides UFC:Undisputed and Arkham Asylum I dont see much to be looking forward to for the next couple of months, except maybe Fight Night Round 4 maybe, that looks interesting and the graphics look out fo this world, I was ***-hot on Round 3 and there was a G o o d [Good] couple luagths when playing multiplayer and having turnament in the living room with 15 other people lol. But other wise nothing.

Is it a scam though? There's no info on the page, no screenshots, just a link to buy it and this tantalising quote :

"Under the Stalin's command we must take control over Red Army forces and kick some alien ass. What shocks the most is that the martian forces look like a gay parade of Nintendo-styled cartoonish creatures."

Ah. You see, they cunningly concealed the screenshots under the 'Images' link along with the 'Me so horny' Stalin wallpaper etc.
I can see why that would be confusing.

Infamous will be released soon, i will wait for some reviews but it looks pretty cool so far. But more importantly there is a multiplayer beta with uncharted 2 included in the game.

    Want.

I just hope naughty dog will keep focusing on the singleplayer as much as the first

Other than that i am looking a bit foward to ghostbusters, never been a big fan but it actually looks pretty G o o d [Good] and with the 3 mafia gameplay videos released i sure am also looking foward to that. Looks hot.

Balls. I'd rather they just left out the Multi-Player completely. If the game's anything like the first one - and I really really hope it is - it doesn't need multi-player. Hell, it wouldn't work as multi-player. The whole thing relied on the characters to carry the game as much as anything, and you're just not going to be able to do that with multi-player. Co-op could just about work at a stretch, but I doubt it will be left at that and I live in fear of generic deathmatch tediumSad [:(]

    *Sigh*

Some games just don't need to go online, and Uncharted is probably one of them. It was all about telling a focused, Saturday-Morning Matinee story with some really great and likable characters. I'd also argue that Metal Gear Solid 4 was another, tbh, but that's by the by. I'm told studios are pressured into it by the marketing divisions - another box to tick as far as things that go on the game cover are concerned etc, but mostly I really wish that they'd just put the extra time into Single player.

Picture a Modern Day Sandbox MMORPG where you can play either ''cops'' or ''robbers''..it's been in the making very long now and the releasedate actually used to be 2007.

I think that this goes to show how it's just becoming a standard for every game to have it now, no matter what the game is about or whether it even suits the gameplay. It's such a shame that it's gone down this route. Sad [:(]

If the singleplayer is as G o o d [Good] as the first it doesnt bother me with multiplayer, co op could be kind of fun and multiplayer death matches could easily work.

Re: What games are you looking forward to and why?

Thanks to Maggot I've been redirected in to this topic. Better late than never.

I think 2009 is going to be one of the best years for gaming ever. The games that have caught my eye and should be watched are (que TOTP music):

    Assassin's Creed 2 - Obviously

Dead Rising 2 - Again, obviously

Damnation - Look it up on gametrailers or something. The concept of taking the shooter vertical is awesome but the developers are reletively unheard of so they may mess it up.

The Godfather 2 - It's already out but I have not money.

Prototype - I'm not even going to try an give a list of reasons why. Just go and check it out. Roll on June 5th!

Bionic Commando - Already out I think.

Dead Island - I think the name says it all. There are very few details at the mo but still, Dead..... Island.... Zombies!

Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires - Dynasty Warriors FTW!

The Secret World - Maggot has already explained.

M.A.G - Like everyone has already said, if they can pull off 256 people in game then it will be awesome but I doubt it is as G o o d [Good] aas it sounds.

Almost forgot.... Mass Effect 2 - Sweet!
