Real rap, and not just thuggish music which people makes lots of undeserved money from, is one of the purest forms of protest against the failing world.

There was a time when I totally dismissed Rap music.  even now it's not my cup of tea, however some of it  really hits on the ugly truth of many of the inner cities. right wrong or indifferent, it is the voice of many.

Not talking down about rap here at all, but real rock has always been about questioning authority, rebelling when rebellion calls and not allow the "man" to push you around.

Much like what real rap is about.

Any 'real' music will tell you the same. Think for yourself, question authority.

I don't think real classical music has that same vibe, but I might be wrong.

You're absolutely right though, all G o o d [Good] music is about being yourself, and not following anybody else, authority figure or otherwise, unless of course you buy the album, then you should buy more, of course, to be a rebel.

I think you could call Benjamin Britains - 3 minutes silence - a rebellion against established traditions

precisely, is there a more distilled version of anti-establishment mentality shown in any other genre of music as to question music as music itself?

    Sovvolf:

I dont concider Green Day as emo music, I'm not sure if it falls into a catagory maybe its Indy, like I concider Offspring to be Indy,

Green Day and Offspring are both shining examples of Pop-Punk.

    Sovvolf:

I concider muscians like Evanecence(or how the hell you spell it) to be Emo,

As I've come to the idea that Emo is to Goth what Pop-Punk is to traditional punk, I can't argue that one.

    Sovvolf:

I concider Marylin Manson to be Emo,

No. Stylistically, MM (and Type O Negative) are closer to something in between Goth and Metal.

    Sovvolf:

and rap music told me Oasis was emo music... I backhanded him across the face for such remark.

Oasis is over-rated mediocrity. I don't actually mind their music, but I do absolutely loathe the worship they get from their (thankfully dwindling) fanbase.

G o o d [Good] god, this is the best thing I've ever read.

Here's something, I was going through youtube earlier, doing what I occassionally do searching for bands that people hate so I can make my own judgements, and so far I've come to the conclusion that I really, really dislike Insane Clown Posse, but I actually think the Jonas Brothers are pretty G o o d [Good]. Their fans look like they'd definitely ruin the music for me though.

I hate any music that involves screaming or stupid nonsense lyrics, like rap for example. I know they are talking about their "Lives" but i just honestly dont care.

I also dont really like the whole punk delinquent regime of music/lifestyle. In fact i DESPISE anyone who buys into such a terrible lifestyle.

I like original rock (Rush, Zeppelin, beetles etc). I also like jazz, Oldies (1950's and under) and House/techno/electronic or whatever you want to call it (like MSTRKRFT (aka Masterkraft) or Justice).

There's prolly some other things but i'm forgetfull.

Electronica is probably the most influental genre with mainstream music.

    Pop music uses it heavily.

I love Electro/Techno/Breaks/House/Acid/TripHop, but it sure can be repetitive.

I can't agree more. Lil' Wayne, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy and the lot of them are disgraces to music. I stick to the old stuff, like A Tribe Called Quest and Wu Tang Clan.

I have yet to encounter a Techno song that doesn't use stupid nonsense lyrics (I mean: "All I do is party, ha ha ha", yeah that are lyrics!).

You haven't searched very hard have you Dan?Wink [;)]

Last night I had a dream about you
In this dream I'm dancing right beside you
And it looked like everyone was having fun
the kind of feeling I've waited so long

Don't stop come a little closer
As we jam the rythm gets stronger
There's nothing wrong with just a little little fun
We were dancing all night long

The time is right to put my arms around you
    You're feeling right
You wrap your arms around too
But suddenly I feel the shining sun
Before I knew it this dream was all gone

Ooh I don't know what to do
    About this dream and you
I wish this dream comes true

Ooh I don't know what to do
    About this dream and you
We'll make this dream come true

Why don't you play the game ?

I'll give you Daft Punk, great music but I never noticed that they actually sing, never heard of Tiga and never really got into Moby.

Justice's DVNO is just plain ridiculous, I won't even get into that.

Surely most Electronica acts, their lyrics are completely moronic, but hey, every once in a while you can get something thats not half bad.
Thinking about it, most lyrics from Electronica acts are ridiculous, haha.

Well i might have not worded that properly. I didn't mean lyrics that don't make sense, but i meant lyrics that fall under the delinquent sort of category (drugs, h*es, gang fights etc).

    See what i mean?

And yes i agree DVNO is completely ireelevant and techno stuff can be repetitive but i like the beat and the baseline. Generally.
