    I also rung the Babybel.

Guybrush had a beard in Le Chuck's Revenge. And browner hair.

I don't quite know why I don't like how Guybrush looks in Tales, it's hard to put my finger on it. It's not like his appearance has been very consistent over the years. In fact in Escape, he seemed to de-age or something.
Also not keen on some of the screens of him in the remake of Secret. I suppose it'll just grow on me or something. Stick out tongue [:P]

    Re: What are you playing?

The remake just looks wrong. You can switch between the old look and the new look on the fly, and I've got to say the old style is infinitely better for me. There's just so much more charm to it somehow, like they've really gone out of their way to make 256 colours and blocky pixels come alive. The new just looks a bit sterile, and guybrush reminds me of a praying mantis.

Still, there's no voice work in the Original view, so new view it is.

EDIT - Mind you, even 256 colours is pushing it in my books. I bought this when it first came out and was only 16 colours. I had to put extra memory in my AtariST to bring it up to a bowel-mangling 1MB as wellWink [;)]

    *Sniff* So... beautiful...

Erm....erm.... Look behind you a three headed monkey.

Any ways, My generous big brother let me use his visa card to purchase some points on my 360 to get monkey island, I dont think I could honestly argue with you or Del about the look of Guybrush or the new look of the game, personally I carnt find anythink wrong with it I think it looks beautiful, but this is the first time playing this game and the second monkeys island game ive ever played (the first being the curse of monkey but I carnt remeber all that much about it) so its not a game ive grown up with, I assume you two did grow up with this game so I guess you prefer the nastalgic look of the old version to the new version.

I did find Monkey Island to be a brilliant and hillarious game, the funniest in my oppinion being:

Possible Spoiler: The fight between you and the sherrif in the Guv'nors house, were although you dont see whats going on the options at the bottom give you an idea and your imagination does the rest.

Possible Spoiler: The part were you tell the Cannibals " Look a three headed monkey" to which they reply with some think on the lines of "Do you think were that stupid" then ironically a Three Head Monkey appears behind them.

I found it a rare treat to be playing a point and click game, I havent seen a point and click game in a G o o d [Good] while, seems like they stopped making them a G o o d [Good] while back, (although in the last few months we've had a G o o d [Good] few luanch on the 360) It kind of took me back to the days of playing broken sword.

I managed to beat the game within a couple of hours though which was a bummer, I'd be lying though if I said I didnt use a hint when I got stuck, but I didnt often get stuck, I find games like these pritty easy.

    Re: What are you playing?

Just downloaded Secret of Monkey Island now. It seems to be a hell of a lot easier now that they got rid of your list of verbs and have it automatically choose things, or is that just me?

Now that I've seen it in action, STILL don't like how Guybrush or LeChuck looks (he looks like a skeleton or something, not a ghost). But I'm loving the voice acting, and the rest of the artwork is very G o o d [Good]. Already completed it a bazillion times in the past so I think I'll leave playing it through until tomorrow. Stick out tongue [:P]

    Re: What are you playing?

I've just been playing copious amounts of Tiger Woods 10, took a great game and made it absolutely brilliant, I doubt any further installments could improve on it unless they add something like a Mario Advance Gold style element to it ... but even then I just can't see it ...

Things I love include - Being able to play online in Tournaments, trying to beat other peoples shots etc etc, on my 360 without a gold subscription, dare I say it but EA have done something brilliantly well and circumvented M$'s embargo on letting people without a Gold subscription play online ...

I've just spent the last 3 days playing Tiger Woods solidly and most of that is on EA's gamernet ... >.>

    Re: What are you playing?

Tales of Monkey Island, although it's on my work machine & I'm not for another week Big Smile [:D].  I do find it a bit odd to have to pay for all episodes of an episodic game up front, that should be an option but not the only one.

Ghostbusters, it's okay but not great.  If it wasn't ghostbusters I probably would have given up by now.

Sacred 2, playing on the 360 (played the pc demo way back), a loot whoring rpg with lots and lots and lots of side quests to do... ah the power of just using text.  The way they've done the controls is really nice, basically there are 4 slots corresponding to the dpad where you put potions and four slots corresponding to the face buttons (really 12, you access two additional slot banks with the triggers) for weapons, skills, spells, etc.  People who like Diablo and are looking for something to tide them over to Diablo3 should check it out.

Bladerunner, only 12 years late always meant to get it when it was in the shops but never did.  I'm absolutely loving it so far.  It captures the atmosphere of the film perfectly and the investigation gameplay is great:.

Using the computer to enhance the photos is just like the film, look, sound, action everything is just spot on. I've retired my first replicant, but I'm yet to Voight Kampff anyone.  I love these kind of games.

Hmm. hadn't noticed that because I generally just buy games by the series from Telltale anyway, but now you mention it...

How strange. I'm fairly sure all the San & Max ones were available individually, so I wonder thy the change?

EDIT - where did you get Bladerunner from jsut out of interest? I only ask as I've been vaguely looking for a copy for a while and was wondering if someone was flogging it by download...

    Re: What are you playing?

I think it's because the Sam and Max episodes are individual stories, whilst Tales only really works as one whole thing. Unless you're a fan of Coronation Street Cliff Hanger Syndrome of course.

not that I could find, I torrented it (Embarrassed [:$]), it all runs fine under Vista no compatibility modes or anything, only thing I have to do it alt-tab out & in again when it starts up for it to properly get the res else it draws the screen multiple times, so I've bought a boxed copy off of ebay.

I think it's because the Sam and Max episodes are individual stories, whilst Tales only really works as one whole thing. Unless you're a fan of Coronation Street Cliff Hanger Syndrome of course.

But it goes against the whole principle & point of episodic releases.  What if after paying that I didn't like it?  I've commited to it all now without any choice, if I want the first part I have to cough up for it all.

    Re: What are you playing?

I suppose I don't really know what the principle and point is. I also don't like Lost.

There's a demo of Tales though, so if you're really not sure, surely you play that first?

Although personally I would have preferred it released as one whole thing, I don't think I mind getting it in bite size chunks.

    Re: What are you playing?

Wiped the floor of the Steel gym in Pokémon Platinum with my awesome pocket death squad. Took two weeks to train the team up, only 3 of them got used and as far as I remember it took 4 moves to kick the gym leader into touch. God, I love the pointless grindiness of this game... Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to Iron Island for some infinite train-ey G o o d [Good]ness to heap on my psychic, grass and water teams.

I'm only mentioning it because I have an Armaldo called Deckard. Which is an hilarious gag if you know your pokémon.

Bought a Wii 'coz I was bored yesterday, so playing Super Mario Galaxy. Definitely not a game to play hungover, when your sense of up and down is buggered in the first place.

Also, less plumbing than you might imagine.

And now, having owned a Wii for a few days and also having played Wii Sports for a bit, I am incapable of playing anything as my ageing body is in ruination.

Maybe this is Nintendo's way of getting back at me for filling in the registration survey for Mario Galaxy and citing "Casual Racism" as my reason for buying.

    Re: What are you playing?

Kayaking looks like a lot more fun in a team. Especially when that team sit on chairs arranged in single file like they're all sitting in the same kayak. There's a video of it somewhere, can't be arsed to look though.

Considering picking this up at some stage, which is ludicrous since I never get any time to play the Wii. But I need to know I have it there if the chance ever comes Smily [:)]

@Matineee - pretty much every Wii game will give you Tennis Elbow due to the ridiculous amounts of imprecise shake-controls they graft on to every title, but I recommend :

Pro Evo Soccer 09 - the greatest football game ever made - they've built more familar controls back in after the radical departure of 2008, but you can still control your team like you're drawing on a whiteboard with the wiimote

Excite Truck - it's cheap, its's short and there are really only about 5 tracks with different routes through them, and the music is cheesier than fondue socks, but it just feels right in a way that no other racing game (MarioKart included) does. The only fly in the ointment is that winning or losing is based on earning points for tricks, dangerous driving and where you place, so you can come dead last by a full minute and still win comfortably. Haven't tried the sequel Excite Bot but it's just mental enough that it might pique your interest - the trucks are replaced by robots, and you not only have to race around tracks but you have to build winning poker hands or sandwhiches while you do it.

Guitar Hero III - sure, you could play it on your PS3 with better sound, better graphics and vastly improved online play, but our guitar is white! The setlist for WT is rubbish though, and RB2 hasn't been released yet, and probably won't be in our lifetime. Especially not yours as you're old.

Oh, and Zelda and Okami but you don't need me to tell you that. Actually, they're pretty much the same game so maybe you don't need to bother...

    Re: What are you playing?

Speaking as someone who once spent much free time building hideously dangerous LittleBigPlanet levels where you drive rocket-powered DeathFish with landmines strapped to their faces, I believe ExciteBots might be right up my speedwaySmily [:)]

Strangely enough, I'm not that big on footy titles and believe the genre peaked with Fifa'95. I think the Uni library has a copy of it though, so I might just nick that for a bit and see. Got Zelda and shall be playing it after I've finished with Mario Galaxy (Which, while being much, much less pretty than Rachet and Clank is also much, much less annoying. And much, much better). I've got Okami for PS2, and while it is brilliant, it's brobably not worth buying it a second time. Then again they've also got that in the library, so I might just nick it for a bit...
I also picked up the original Resi E v i l [Evil] remake on Ebay for nostalgia's sake, and am trying to find someone gullible who doesn't know how much MGS - Twin Snakes is worth...

Anyone tried Another Code R for the wii, just out of interest? I get that a lot of people wont really see it as a game, but I'm big on interactive fiction with G o o d [Good] characterisation, and really quite enjoyed Hotel Dusk on the DS (which I think is by the same people...)

And whoever next makes an 'old' comment, I'm coming to get you. Just as soon as I can remember where my trousers are. I know I had them when I went in to Tesco...
