Sovvolf:I certainly own the game I'm staring at it as we speak, though you'd most likely kick my ass, not too ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) at console rts's I would play you but I'm of to college in 15 minutes and when I get back I'le probably be training or I'll not be arsed to plug the console in because I'm playing about with the Aurora Toolset from NWN, I can imagine you'll catch me eventually and if I'm not busy at all then I would love to take up that challenge.
k, I'll keep an eye out for when you're online.

Re: What are you playing?
I have been re-immersing myself in Halo 3 and also playing Halo 3: ODST alot recently, but I recently achieved all the vidmaster achievements (thanks to kit and fatalmoose btw) and started wearing recon in Halo 3 matchmaking. every game, I get assaulted by people wanting recon. wtf I thought the vidmaster thing was supposed to end this. Oh well, I guess this post boils down to "I'm playing ODST and gathering groupies in Halo 3"

Re: What are you playing?
Lately I've been playing Batman AA, Ghostbusters and Halo ODST. Batman AA, great game. Hopefully, if they make a sequel, they will expand on the stalking/stealth gameplay because I think it could use more depth. Other than that little complaint, a near perfect game imo. Ghostbusters - I really enjoyed this game, it was far better than the reviews lead me to believe. There are a few problems. Often times there will be wild swings in the difficulty and you will just die randomly (lots of instant death in this game). There is also a little too much babysitting the other ghostbusters, they die a lot. The story however is decent, the voice acting is great, it feels like you are playing a ghostbusters movie. Halo 3: ODST. I'm liking some of the changes that Bungie made with this Halo game but it feels sort of half-assed in spots. Such as the troopers being able to flip a tanks or other vehicles with their bare hands, they can still jump about 4 feet in the air, pick up huge turrets and walk around with them, if you mount an enemy tank you can smash it apart with your bare hands, etc. That was all in Halo 3 but it was sort of excusable since you were playing a super soldier, but as a normal human?? The voice acting is very well done, the music is some of the best in the series imo, the story works quite well, and the hub world is pretty fun to sneak through. With that said, I still don't think this game should be full priced. A solid rental imo.
Windows 7 was my idea!

Re: What are you playing?
Is Fifa 10 out already? It's only released here on the 2nd of October. PES 10 comes out 3 weeks later. I'm a PES fan but the last 3 or 4 PES's have been absolutely rubbish, basically Konami milking the money out of the fan base. I played Fifa 9 for the first time last week, and it was pretty ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) I have to say. Hence, I've decided that if Konami screws up PES 10, then that'll be the last PES game I play. Before I forget, I'm currently wasting my life playing Sacred 2: fallen Angel. It's pretty ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) but long. Waiting for Dragon Age though and Assassins Creed 2.

I hope you were not talking about the PC versions of FIFA10 and PES10 because there can only be one winner, PES10. FIFA10 for the PC is only comparable to Sensible Soccer on the Amiga and even this was better. At least it was more fun! Now I am not saying PES10 is the best football game ever, but certainly state-of-the-art football gaming for the PC, unlike FIFA10.
Everyone should boycott Ubisoft and their new Online DRM for PC games. This has gone too far in the reduction of the rights of users and I am sick of it! It is not made to fight piracy, but to control the customer.

Not officially but a lot of stores just sells games when they get it and EA are not that strict with fifa street date.

While fifa on pc is really bad i really dont think pes10 on pc is much better. Second worst pes game ever just after 2008 if the demo is a ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) indicator of how the full game is. Konami really needs to re-think how they are making PES games at the moment, they are losing the crazy fanboys (including once me) that has only played PES since the ISS days.

PES10 for the PC is, judging from the demo so far, certainly better than FIFA10. What always annoys me is, why do I have an analogue controller if the game only recognises 4 directions+4 diagonals. They promised 360° controls for FIFA10, but I did not see them. The animations are sub-par too. It always feels like you have no direct control over the player because they are stuck in an animation. Not to mention that those animations are the same since FIFA 2001 or so. Never was a big PES fan because I never looked so much for realism in a football game, as long as it is fun. So I can not judge on the development of PES. From the direct comparison of the recent two titles, I can only say that PES10 is worlds ahead on gameplay fun and presentation compared to FIFA10! The most interesting question is why they did not port the current XBox360 or PS3 game to the PC instead of remaking FIFA 2001. Even FIFA09 for the PC was better in nearly every aspect. ![Tongue Tied [:S]](/emoticons/emotion-7.gif) Also where are my indoor football matches. I miss them since FIFA 97. That alone makes FIFA 96 the best football game ever! A beach football field would also be cool to have. ![Classic [:classic:]](/emoticons/classic.gif)

Re: What are you playing?
No, just to clarify, i was referring to the Xox 360 version of the game. Being in Switzerland, we only get the game on the official day of release. To explain again, I'm a PES fan, and jhhave always got it as my football game on the xbox and 360. I was just really dissapointed with the last three/four versions of it. I only played Fifa for the first time (any version of it) last week, and the game play was alike the PES of old, hence, if PES 10 sucks, i'll be joining the Fifa brigade I think unfortunately.

Re: What are you playing?
Gran Turismo on the PSP. Which is.... surprisingly ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) , actually. Technically it's hugely impressive they can do something like that on a handheld device - it's a remarkably ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) looking game with an impressive frame-rate, and they've got the driving and physics engines spot on.
I really can't get the hang of using the analogue stick for steering though - it's just too sentitive so the car ends up wobbling all over the track as I do minor steering corrections. That said, I might just have not got the hang of it yet - I've not played it for that long, and they've set up the D-Pad intelligently so it works well as an alternative.
Also lacks the parts-buying side of console GT so tuning options are more limited, and the races work by you picking a track, race type (normal, time-trial, drift) and a car, rather than a full career mode, but that's ok by me. The important thing is that it's a lot of fun t actually drive the thing...
Pretty much an essential buy if you like racing games and have a PSP.
While we're on the subject, since the PSPGo launched yesterday and the PSN Store suddenly filled up with PSP ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) ies, you can download a Game called Crush for about 12 quid. Basically it's a puzzle game where you navigate level by switching between the 3D and 2D planes - difficult to explain how they've organised it, so Youtube it.
I think it's bloody brilliant, only nobody in the world except me bought it when it came out. One of the best puzzle games ever made - give it a try...

Re: What are you playing?
Following on from the last post, I should point out that trying to play Gran Turismo PSP on a semi-rural bus going to the train station is next to impossible. Big time. The combination of well-simulated winding roads and drops on front of your eyes, combined with your body's inertial feedback from real but contrasting winding roads and drops will absolutely *** You Up. Seriously.
There's an annoying woman who gets the same bus and has been trying to strike up a conversation for the past few months despite my best efforts, and on one particularly bendy bit of road she almost got my breakfast face-first. OK, on the plus side she would have never tried to talk to me ever again about Big Brother and Harry Potter and how she thinks China is using all of our electricity, but it was a lightly toasted bacon and fried egg sandwich with the crusts cut off. With the Crusts cut off, dammit!!!!

Re: What are you playing?
I am playing the Risen demo. From the developers of Gothic which means it basically plays like Gothic. It shows how Gothic 3 could have been without the publisher ruin it. A harsh world of unique characters, a nice setting on a mysterious island, nameless hero, a big adventure. Overall a very very action RPG. The PC demo/game seems bugfree from what I've seen so far. Not self-evident after the Gothic 3 debacle. Dunno if there is also a demo of the Xbox360 version and how that plays and looks.
Everyone should boycott Ubisoft and their new Online DRM for PC games. This has gone too far in the reduction of the rights of users and I am sick of it! It is not made to fight piracy, but to control the customer.

Re: What are you playing?
Scribblenauts. Absolutely fruitcake. Love it
Any game that asks you to do something simple like 'Give a farm animal to the farmer' and ends up with a Redneck running about biting the heads off chickens, while a Chimpanzee who's wrestled a pitchfork from the farmer wages mortal combat with Cthulhu on a field strewn with banana skins, is a work of genius in my opinion
Actually, most of the levels are really simple and can be completed using very obvious, straight forward methods. But if that's how you like to play then you may as well not bother - this game is all about taking the road less travelled. If your natural reaction to any situation like unlocking a door is "Where did I leave my badger, hosepipe and swarfega?", then this is the game for you.
Oh, kittens and vampires do not play nicely btw. Really lots not.

Re: What are you playing?
I have been practicing my angling skills, with Bass Pro Shop's The Strike. Not sure if you UK guys can get it but this game is awesome it even comes with a fishing pole controller.
If you like to fish it is a fun game, beats Rappala's fishing frenzy by a long shot.

Re: What are you playing?
Demon's Souls - I've played to & defeted the boss in 1-1 and I'm loving it. The weight of combat, the lack of any fodder enemies (everything can kill you, but everything is pattern driven so you can learn), the world's got a strange lonely feeling to it, which is just enhanced by the other players fading in & out of it. Like the Witcher the castle looks & feels like it's been built by people who have visisted a medieval castle, unlike many constructs in games & films. I will admit I've jumped a couple of times when getting ambushed by an enemy that turned out to be another player's image.
I took some advice from people I know who have been playing it and went the Royal class which is the 'easy' option but you also start at Soul Level 1 to compensate for that.
I love watching the bloodstains, there have been some real laughs watching how people have died, other times it's a bit '***, what killed them?'.
I've only died twice so far, once going down to open the first gate, got trapped in a corner against three of them, and the other against the boss.
It's harsh but fair, doesn't hold your hand at all, even during the tutorial section (I almost died twice in that).
My only issue is I automatically default to the Fable controls when I panic so I'm using items faster than I should.

Re: What are you playing?
Oh, Been thinking of getting Demon Souls since I noticed one of the Asian versions had an English translation, but I couldn't decide if it'd be really ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) or just end up frustrating me. I suppose my big question is does it do the unforseeable insta-death thing on you, or is it more a case of you need to pay close attention to your surroundings and also fight intelligently to avoid getting guacamole'd? Is danger manageable if you keep your wits about you, type thing?

Every enemy can kill you, but it never feels unfair, the combat is all about learning to spot openings, knowing when to defend.
There's a stamina system and everything you do combat-wise (strike, block, get hit, roll) uses stamina. The less stamina you have the less effective you are, so if you've no stamina you can try and block but your block will just be knocked aside.
There are two strikes (quick & hard) a block & a parry, you can hold your weapon in two hands or in one hand with a second weapon or a shield in the other.
The environment is dangerous, you can fall to your death if you're not careful. It doesn't insta-death you, there are traps around the place but because of the bloodstains (seeing how others have died) and the messages you'll get ample warning there's a trap.
