    Re: What are you playing?

I've been fooling around with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising on the PS3. People already fear my chinese-helicopter-rocket-assault-followed-by-crashing-in-a-spectacular-manner tactic. It's not as effective as I would like but it will make my name live on in infamy.

I've been oogling Chinatown Wars for my PSP as well, but I don't know how well it will work on my PSP. One of the buttons is a bit sticky after an unfortunate coke (the drinking kind) accident a while back.

    Re: What are you playing?

DeBeef! You're Alive! I assumed you'd been abducted by aliens or gone off to join a trout farm or something.

Anyway. I think it stops being called a 'tactic' when there are more flames, screaming and agony on the part of your own troops than you can justifiably claim to have planned for. Have you considered disguising yourself as France so nobody sees you as a threat on the battlefield, then smacking the enemy over the head with an army-issue frying pan when their back's turned?

Maybe you'll be OK with GTA psp as long at the button is the brake one? If not, just buy a new PSP, prise one of the buttons out of it and jam it into your existing one, and away you go. Simple!

GTA:Chinatown, on PSP. Actually rather G o o d [Good]Smily [:)] It's a bit of an adjustment to the top-down view, but once you've been in there for an hour it all becomes second nature. Actually, in less time than that, you start to appreciate just how slick the whole thing is - attractive to boot, I might add.

If I had a PSP that would be a game I would like to check out, loved the first GTA.

EDIT - In fact, if Uncharted 2 had an extra mode where the game just played itself through without me having to do anything, I'd love that. I'd actually like to see the thing from a viewer-only perspective, and the GF isn't into playing 'Gamer' games. She keeps harping on about how ace it was to watch mind you, which leads me to believe there may be something in this spectator only mode idea for the more cinematic games...Wink [;)]

Fair enough, but I thought that was what they made RE: Degeneration for? Laugh []

Ah, but RE;Degeneration doesn't have a mode on the disc to let you play through the movie, does it? Unless you've got a much better DVD player than me Paranoid [:aranoid:]It's a limitation of the format you see, what with it being a pre-rendered movie burned onto a disc rather than a real-time thing running on a machine.

Thinking about it, if they did 'movies' on consoles using game engines, you'd get a lot more choice in the Movie Extras section over DVDs. Viewing angles, lighting, stuff like that. Hmm...

Playing Rock Band 2 on the Wii. Fantastic game. Shame about the SDHC support and no importing from RB1 though.

Welcome back, you crazy swede Big Smile [:D]

Cinematic mode would make a great deal of sense, especially in games like RE4 that has a number of triggered set piece battles that you can accidentally miss if you don't play the game the way they intended you to. Prince of Persia : Sands of Time was a joy to watch over the shoulder too. And those japanese games that I've never seen before in my life would be a lot easier to play if you didn't have to keep one hand on the mouse Hmm [^o)]

The rumour about the trout farm was greatly exaggerated.

I might have to give Chinatown Wars a look later on if I find the time. The summers general videogame-draught had me turn to boardgaming as another way to waste time.

Me and the GF have been enjoying Arkham Horror boardgame alot. The cosmic horrors cower in fear from Professor Walters. Especially when he summoned his beast from within, promptly joined the Sheldon gang just to be arrested the next turn after his first attempt at larceny. After the release of the slightly monstrous professor a Hound of Tindalos appeared out of the corner in the police station whereupon the professor chugged a bottle of bootleg whiskey to steel his tattered mind and proceded to beat the hound to a pulp with his bare hands.

Oh, the Beast with a Million Pieces? Ia! Ia! R'lyeh F'thang! and things of that nature?
I was going to get that myself, but owning 3 cats I feared that Mighty Cthulhu might end up being batted about the carpet a bit and end up stuck under the sofa. Which would be a bit embarrassing for him. Sure, we could do what everyone else does and just staple the cats to the floor, but while the noise would add immensely to the atmosphere the neighbours tend to complain.

    I just can't winSad [:(]

Aye, 'tis the one I be speakin' 'bout.

Of course once you add a couple of expansions it's more of the Beast with a Million Card Decks or The Game Which Components Should Not be Counted. It's a real time stealer but surprisingly easy to get into.

Speaking of time stealers, I'm looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins. I'm hoping it will be one of those rare games you actually get tired of before coming close to finishing. I find it harder and harder to plonk down my hard earned money for video games that take 10 hours or so to complete.

    Re: What are you playing?

Been playing Borderlands for the last few days. Was not a game I ever intended to buy so I didn't my brother did. I gave it a go to see what it was like and well it was G o o d [Good]. Artiboi picked me up at level 7 and I played a game of "Sovvolf die Artiboi run back and heal" but I eventually got to level 21 with Arti by using the same tactic of run and die. At that level I was even able to fight some of the mobs with out dying. Ho and my microphone broke so gun sign language was the alternative.

This part was pretty dull as I spend must the time dying and being silent due to not having a microphone. I then played the next day alone... don't it was the most boring experiece I've had in a game since I played the Two Worlds demo.

Just as I was about to call it quits and put it on the shelve never to be played again my friends popped online. They managed to convince me to come and join there game and I discovered the strong point of this game.... Multiplayer.

With a fixed headset and friends with characters around the same level as me this game became extremely fun and addictive.
The enemies are harder and there's more of them but the loot and the fun makes up for it. This is one of the few games I've liked playing online.

This game is a strong recomend for anyone with a group of freinds who have this game.

    Re: What are you playing?

I've been thinking about getting borderlands but also heard bad things about singleplayer (some guy said you felt alone and sad playing by yourself Stick out tongue [:P] ). Will probably pick it up when it gets cheaper.

Anyway football manager 2010. Finally they made a great football manager again, not that i wouldn't have played it to death if it wasnt a huge improvement like 08 and 09 weren't but this time it really feels improves in every way, also performance. Even the 3d is better (still bad but this time you can actually stand watching it). Now to scout some G o o d [Good] youngsters.

    Re: What are you playing?

Today I discovered Torchlight and played its demo the whole day long.

It is a Hack&Slay game that is made by former Blizzard developers that also were involved in the development of Diablo. You really can feel Diablo in this game everywhere, but also some nice improvements and a very unique cartoon style graphics. It is so much fun and addicting to collect items, develop the character and just smash down enemies, just like back in the days of Diablo. Cheeky [:cheeky:] Best Hack&Slay game I have played since Diablo2!

For about 16 € this is a offer one can not refuse. Sometimes I wish, I was not so paranoid for having a credit card and totally refuse buying anything through digital distribution ... well no buy until it will be on the shelf than, maybe never ... when will developers learn?

    Re: What are you playing?

Yes Maggot single player is no fun at all. Very dull, very boring... I can't play that game on single player, it's not a pretty picture, I don't like doing it.

Another annoying part of the game is the hit detection. Some times you'll fire a round at the mob and it will for some strange reason end hitting the wall directly behind it or just not hitting at all. With most guns this doesn't seem to be a problem, you probably wont even notice.. but as a sniper this is terrible as getting head shots when this happens is a nightmare. At first I thought it was because of bad aiming so I took my time with the shot, I am full at my sniper ability so theres no sway... I then fired after leaving it on the mobs head for long enoungh to make sure it hits... the bullet didn't hit, it went through his head and hit the wall behind him creating a bullet hole.

    Re: What are you playing?

I've recently finished Uncharted 2, and it's fantastic in almost every way possible.

Demon's Souls is kicking my backside pretty hard and I'm not sure how long I'll persevere with it.

Still rinsing out the last few achievements in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (mindless smashing things is sometimes all I want to do after a day at work).

Probably going to start the new GTA4 DLC 'Ballad of Gay Tony' this evening, and I've succumbed and pre-ordered the special edition of Dragon Age.

    Re: What are you playing?

Torchwood is really really addicting. Lots of nice improvement over the interface of Diablo. Have not made out a "real" storyline though, but that probably needs a bit more progress than the demo offers.

Just to mention, the game offers even a "special" netbook mode in the options menu. Wink [;)]

I only hope that they will offer a boxed version on the shelves sometime. Sad [:(]

    Re: What are you playing?

Desperate for any minor distraction from the upcoming Dragon Age, I grabbed an oldie recommended to me by a friend called Salammbo: Battle For Carthage - one of those point & click adventure games. Didn't like it that much. It's missing one of the key factors I find most appealing in point & click adventures, witty dialogue. Oh if only I could erase my memory and play Full Throttle all over again.

For some reason Birdo clearly has the voice of a Japanese man in this trailer. It's like... eating a cake. You expect the cake to be delicious, but when you bite into it, it sounds like a Japanese man. See what I'm trying to say here?

    Re: What are you playing?

Tekken 6 is rather brilliant. Except my fingertips are incredibly sore now, especially my thumbs, which isn't G o o d [Good] when you want to practice guitar afterwards.
Not impressed with the scenario mode, and the fact that you can't couch co-op is rather annoying and I have yet to see the logic in not making that possible.
Recommend anyone who tries it to install it onto their system. The loading times are an absolute pain if you don't.
The new characters are G o o d [Good], especially enjoying Alisa and Zafina right now, and not because they're scantily dressed female characters. Hmm [^o)] One of them is an android with chainsaws that come out of her hands so she's not my type anyway.
Really like Asuka's new defence stances that allow you to counter practically any move coming your way.

Two play couch versus is where it's at. Happy that they've included team battle in again too.

The only chance I see and I use, spending money over the Internet is by direct debit or direct bank transfer. With "direct" I mean without a third or even fourth party that know about my userdetails, like for example PayPal seems to be another dataminer. I think an Amazon account is more than enough already (and I constantly fear it being hacked). I don't need no PayPal, Ebay, or whatever to store sensible data of me.

In return to such an transaction, I also want something physical, maybe send by post ... call me antiquated, but I do not thrust the Internet. Hmm [^o)] Sell me a boxed game on a persistent data storage device or let it be! Dead [:notalive:]

    Re: What are you playing?

Many debit cards let you pay over the internet for things (both Mastercard and Visa issue debit cards depending on the bank you're with). Some places might only accept credit cards because of the extra security it provides, but for game sites that's not usually the case.

Gah, Torchlight is amazing!  I've been playing for about 8 hours and I'm about halfway through the story on Normal difficulty.

It's hella fun.  Runic used to be Blizzard North, as quaseman mentioned, and it seems that they've said "Screw you, Irvine!  We're making D3, anyway!" because a lot of the spells and monsters are identical to those released in D3 videos and concept art pieces [that Blizzard North originally drew up back in 2000-2001'ish before breaking off to make Hellgate].  That was a really long sentence.

Buy Torchlight!  It's on Steam, and it's only 20 bones!

Games for the holidays, what a fantastic idea. Like a pumpkin patch game with Linus, and Lucy, being chased by giant pumpkins, or a little more scary, perhaps. Then the other holidays should have a game as well.Wink [;)]

    Re: What are you playing?

Tried Torchlight on a netbook - unfortunately it doesn't run very well and the chuggy framerate began to annoy me. But, it reminded me about King's Bounty:The Legend, which I bought months ago and never got round to playing. Which is a shame, because it's pretty G o o d [Good]...
Torchlight looks similar to it on the surface and has a similar movement setup, and although I've not played Torchlight very much at all, I suspect King's Bounty is probably a more tactical affair. Turn-based combat for one thing. G o o d [Good] system if you like Turn-based, mind you.
