    rjanaconda:

BCE stands for Big C---k Entertainment hence the big stomping chicken as part of the intro

    [Slaps Head!]

I was going to make my own film called "My Big Fat C@ck" - the (one) joke was that it would be about a big fat c@ck, which would be revealed at the end as a chicken doing exercises but with loads of terrible Carry On style innuendo leading up to the reveal, classic lines like:

    "My G o o d [Good]ness, you weren't kidding, your c@ck is HUGE!!" (off camera)

    and multiple variations thereof.

But now that you've kind of stolen its one joke, I can consign that to the "never to be attempted" projects folder in my brain. I think lots of people should be thanking you for that! Smily [:)]

    Re: JazzX Reviews - Open

Nothing in the queue tonight - so that means I get to watch something I've always wanted to see but never got around to.

    I've chosen this film:

Alletheo: The Fall of a King

    by ichthusadmr

    Genre: Religious Fantasy Epic

    Duration: 26.5 minutes - released Saturday 10th March 2007, 238 ratings, 4.87 star average

BBFC rating: (12) - for scenes of battle violence and mild nudity

    **** stars

Once it got going this was an excellent story for so much of the time. It was kind of a cross between Lord of the Rings and The Bible (which are both two great works of fiction in my opinion).

The music could have been more dramatic in some scenes, in particular the battles. That would really have helped sell some of the more static shots, but I loved the epic scope of those scenes. It's a tribute to the filmmaker that I understood exactly what was going on when one of the main characters gets betrayed during the battle.

The set designs were stunning - the castles, ramparts, ante chambers, throne room, the works. A visual feast. Costumes were great too - as was makeup. We had some VERY Lord of the Rings looking characters. Legolas, Aragorn and the Orcs were in there in all but name. But they looked great.

Acting wasn't always the best (some unstable accents!), but not bad either - you don't watch these epics for the acting anyway, it's all about the spectacle and the story.

It's the ending that loses this film a star - and in such infuriating fashion.

    !!!!!!!!!SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After effectively murdering his best Captain, just so they wouldn't find out that he got their wife preggers while they were away fighting for him, the King gets visited by a mysterious stranger who tells him a parable which he soon comes to recognise as the word of God.

He comes to see the error of his ways and begs God for forgiveness.

Ok - so far so G o o d [Good]. A preachy scene, but nothing surprising in that.

However - the King's motives for being forgiven are entirely selfish and strike a near-mortal blow against the whole ethos of Christianity. True morality goes out of the window:

The King exclaims ".. but won't I lose everything God has given me?" - then he confesses to the wife "I've something to tell you - and I need you to forgive me". Sure enough - despite having a loyal, dedicated elven soldier killed on a whim, a couple of confessions later he gets to keep the kingdom and the beautiful wife who he deliberately had widowed.

Rather than being locked up in a dungeon for the rest of his life as he should be, he gets to keep the girl and still own the whole kingdom. The moral of the story is "say sorry to God, and you'll keep the lot".

If this character had one ounce of moral conviction, he would have felt REAL remorse for his crimes long before the stranger turned up scaring him with God's omiscience.

"(Sh*t! He knows!) Oh ... urm ... I'm REALLY sorry. Forgive me. Let me keep everything! PLEASE!" - that, unfortunately, sums up most of what Christianity is all about. It's a transfer of responsibility from the individual to God (you just say "sorry" first); and sadly, it revels in it through stories similar to this one.

The ending to this story is therefore morally bankrupt - as a lesson, it has nothing to teach anyone with a conscience.

I'm also not sure the parable from the mysterious stranger even fits what happened. The greedy so-and-so in the parable steals the poor man's sheep and kills it. So that would mean the King stealing the wife's husband by having him killed? Or stealing the wife? Messy.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SPOILERS OVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway - what went on before the ending was well worth the ride. A G o o d [Good] film overall.

Lol - the ending to that film (Alletheo) winds me up.

Let's imagine that the brave, loyal elf character wasn't a Christian - a closet atheist or flower worshipper, or somesuch.

According to the Bible, thanks to the King's murderous actions, he's burning in hell while the King, having said sorry to God, is destined for heaven after having got the elf's girl and kept the kingdom.

Simply appalling! No wonder I simply can't take christianity seriously ...
