Re: Fable 2 - Limited Edition?

I'd really like to know whether or not I can get an LE copy at walmart or if I have to pre-order it online or in another store. Unfortunately, no one either has any clue or cares to respond.

Someone said something about a ring and a coin, I think that would be cool. I would wear the ring, or a silver key necklace. Heres some visual 3d ideas to entertain you about the ring and limited edition possibilities: 3d Stuff

Indeed, that was what made me raise an eyebrow at first, the fact that they are actually taking money for it means that they must be damned confident that it will be released ... Tongue Tied [:S] As for the release date, that's the same with all game retailers, they have a habit of just putting a date down, normally the earliest realistic one possible, and then keep delaying your order until it is actually released (I know amazon does that a lot with pre-order games ... Angry [:@])

Got an update for you guys,

Just got off the phone with a GameStop rep and they informed me that they actually don't charge for the game until it ships.  So if you bought the Limited Edition of Fable 2 they actually wouldn't charge your credit/debit card until they ship it out from the warehouse.  If it ends up that a Limited Edition is not coming out, GameSpot would simply contact you letting you know that the order was cancelled due to the fact that no Limited Edition is coming out.

So anyway, looks to me like GameStop claiming a Limited Edition of Fable 2 is about as accurate as the release date, which is to say...it isn't.  Wink [;)]

You could be right but I don't see GameStop jeopardizing their credibility by taking preorders on items that may not exist. It would be too unprofessional of them to leave gamers without a copy of the game because they were wrong and they also have a boxart for it. I get the feeling that either Microsoft's or LionHead's marketing department pulled some strings so they can start selling these things before announcing the details. It's a long shot and I could be horribly wrong but that's my understanding of the situation. It would really suck for me because I preordered the Limited Editions of both the game and the Strategy Guide.

I can get pretty hard headed but I never hold a grudge. I am not very convinced of the other stuff but it doesn't much matter since E3 will clarify a lot of things.

They guess at release dates. They're never truely accurate until within the last few months.

Release dates have been wrong but they never started taking orders on anything that didn't exist. The guessing part is the "official" answer they hand out to any and all curious fans because they can't just say that they have the info from the marketing department of a major company like Microsoft or LionHead before the company itself is ready to talk details. My guss is that either LH or MS wanted to start selling these items but weren't ready to talk details like exactly what comes in the LE besides the Regular edition and so on so they talk to gamestop and tell them something like: "Hey here's the boxart for the LE of Fable 2 so start selling it but we don't want a billion fans nagging us for details so if you're asked just say that you pulled the boxart and knowledge of the existence of the LE out of your @$$."

GameStop was just an example but the fact that more retailers just happen to guess on the existence of these items should tell you something. When's the last time you saw these many retailers be wrong about the existence of an item they took preorders for??? And if they're not all wrong they must know something we don't to make them stick their neck out like that(taking preorders on an item isn't something you can just say "oops I was wrong" without ruining your credibility as a retailer.)
