Re: A New World, Garth's Research

"The Gate is now ready to activate.  Simply infuse it with a resevoir of Will energy, and it will link into the network. "  The Guild instruction manual bore precise steps and complicated diagrams leading up to this page, and Garth had followed them precisely.  As precisely as the stains and weathering on the pages would permit, that is.  Poring over the other references to Cullis Gates, the nearly complete ring of stone outside the tower looked like it would function perfectly.  "Just a few more tests, then back to the work on that Old Kingdom bed" Garth told himself.  Truth be told, he should have been in his regular bed at the moment, but it is so close to completion now...   Shaking his head, Garth stepped out of his study and went down the tower's stairs to make a closer inspection of his most ambitious project yet.  The Gate he was building lacked only the Guild Seal inscription runes before he could link it to another and activate it.  Concentrating on the diagram that was drawn on the inside cover of the Guild manual, Garth focused a large portion of his Will into his inactive Gate and began to chant in an ancient tongue.  Glowing runes appeared in a circle around the edges, and the Seal began to take shape in the center, emerging from the masonry like a Demon Door.  Once it had become stable, Garth stopped the incantation he had been reciting.  It was done.  Exitement quickly gave way to fatigue; he had been up for nearly a day's time, and enchanting a Cullis Gate had depleted his energy even further.

Preparing to go to sleep, Garth looked upward, towards the loft of his tower.  The strange and obviously magical bed was tempting, but it would have to wait for morning.

    Brilliant.
Flown down by ravens and stolen by the dawn's first rays, night mares stalk the night. Through dusty windows and cracked glass, they watch the weary rest till mornings rise.

Thanks, I want to give him a bit more attention, especially as he seems to have less background than the other two Heroes.

Re: A New World, Garth's Research

Eh?  Reaver has diaries and Theresa's mentions that refer to him and Oakvale, Hammer spouts her info in Wellspring cave, so Garth has the least as far as I know... unless I misunderstood your post.

Re: A New World, The Escort

Her search for a Hero in Oakfield led Margaret to think that the local villagers wanted to find one as much as she did, and they obviously hadn't found any yet.  There didn't seem to be any leadership in the town at all beyond the local sheriff, at least in a political sense.  The closest thing to a mayor seemed to be the abbot at the Temple of Light, whose rituals and prayers were said to keep the fields fertile and the town alive.  Most of the farmers were quite religious, so the Temple held a fair bit of clout in the town.  The bartender was probably second in importance. Having already spent considerable time questioning the bartender, Margaret decided to pay the abbot a visit.

She found him in an argument with one of the monks, although it ended as soon as she walked in.  "Ah, hello there.  May the Light grant you G o o d [Good] health this day."  He turned to leave, but stopped and turned back instead.  "You look like you can handle yourself well enough.  Would it be too much trouble to ask you to escort one of the monks through Wellspring Cave?  It is time for the Golden Acorn ceremony, and holy water must be collected from the cave." Water from a cave?  "Well, I..."  The abbot sensed the coming refusal and interrrupted the answer before it came.  "I know it is an inconvenienc for you, but my daughter is the one going in, and I can't send her in without protection. Please, help an old clergyman in his time of need."  Well, I suppose I have nothing beter to do, there's no Heroes to be found here.  "Fine, I'll do it.  You owe me for this."  "But of course, I am extremely grateful and will gladly repay you for the trouble.  Now to business..."

Edit to above: "nothing better to do"

I try to police my own grammar, but I sometimes miss something (spellcheck has made me lazy, but Word tends to screw up posts if a paste here is attempted, so I do without).... at any rate, the next bit isn't quite ready yet.

Re: A New World, The Escort

The Rookrridge Inn would normally be  pleasant place to stay during a night of rain, but one normally did not have to gut bandits and barricade the entrances to get a G o o d [Good] night's sleep.  Maze had found the place as a detour when the gate to Oakfield was barred shut to prevent bandit raids.  Instead of trying to invade by force, the bandits, well supplied and well fortified, simply left the gate alone and took advantage of any hapless traders attempting to enter or leave the area.  Needless to say, the Inn was a favorite haunt of theirs.  Lightning cracked the night sky and it grumbled in protest as the wind howled that stormy night.  The one G o o d [Good] thing about the weather, Maze supposed as he chewed on an abandoned bit of jerky from a barrel, was that it almost guarunteed that nobody would be out and about trying to get into the Inn.  It was hard to tell the time, but it seemed to be the right time for a bit of sleep.  Pulliing himself from the wooden chair near the bar counter, Maze headed up the stairs towards the bed.  A gust of wind howled like a balverine, setting his neck hairs on edge, but he calmed himeslf quietly and went to sleep.

If you want spell check, but don't want word to screw everything up then what I do is write it in word, copy and paste into notepad and then from there copy and paste again to post.

Note: you might need to look over everything again in note pad because it turns bold, underlined and angled words back to normal.

    Hope that helps
