    Ted:

If you have already encountered this issue, there is unfortunately no work-around at this time, but we will keep you updated on any progress made.

    Thanks,
    Ted

in what way are you keeping us updated, Ted?

i'm still stuck in Oakfield after a week - plotting my sweet, sweet revenge on the abbot.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

So, here's the silver lining (for me at least). After putting the game down for the past week because of the abbot glitch, I decided to start up the game and see how much money I had earned in rent and profits. Lets just say I was pleasantly surprised and relieved that I didn't have to chop wood for all that money.

Even though I can't play the game, at least I'm earning money Smily [:)]

Are you kidding?  Do you know how much more outrage there would have been if Lionhead had delayed this game even a WEEK?  What the bad publicity would have been, and how much they would have lost in sales?

When it comes down to it, this specific bug is a small one.  And given the size of this game, I have absolutely no doubt that they went through an extensive testing phase and found and fixed more bugs than any of us could guess.  And you know what?  Some ARE going to fall through.  If I had to guess, I'd say maybe .1% of people that buy this game will experience a "game breaking" glitch.  And the righteous wrath that is so often directed at game companies by people that think they 1)know what they are talking about and 2) will make any kind of a difference at all, ever has absolutely no impact on anything, and never will.

Imagine programming a game as large as Fable 2.  Try to.  Try to imagine the CODING behind this freaking beast.  And then imagine .01% of people that purchase your game tell you about a bug with the Abbot quest in Oakfield by saying this: "The abbot quest is bugged, I can't progress.  Fix it."

How long, honestly, do you think it would first take you to figure out what the hell they're talking about, reproduce the bug in every way possible, test a fix for each of those ways, and then implement it.  With to help from the community.  Weeks?  Months?

It's foolish to assume you can give Lionhead as little information as possible and expect a bug fix to be put out in anything even remotely resembling a timely manner.  Input from the community helps them fix the bug FASTER, so they know what to test FOR.  It gives them a foundation to start building on, rather than having to start building it themselves which would only take longer.

Because of the input FROM the community, if you read the Kotaku article at the top of page 4 of this thread, you'll see that they already have the Abbot bug fixed, and a patch is forthcoming with no eta.

Dude, thats a major copout. "People would complain if it was delayed a week". Yeah they'd complain for a short time. What do you think is gonna get more complaints, a delay or a bug riddled game? The game with game breaking bugs.... People realize delays usually mean a better game.

It isn't tough to restart the game, and I'm not just sitting around. There is however alot that would get lost when restarting the game. The experience and customization. Plus I merged my pub games character with my Hero and, made alot of money and experience without the glitch. I have reached 5 stars in smithing and woodcutting. Leveled my dog, found silver keys. I even continue to train in Oakfield and have way to much to lose, especially because I paid for the pub games. I've made my character very personalized to me. Don't generalize and think people are just whining and sitting around "like a dope".

I merged my Pub Games character as well, but my glitch is a little different:

I got to the demolished bridge before Oakfield, but accidentally dove off the bridge before the dialogue about the bandits finished.

After diving through the bridge and working my way through the cave, I got to the Oakfield gate.  At least, I think it's Oakfield - there's a purple glow around the gate.  I'm getting a message: "All paths to Bowerstone have been cut off by bandits.  Someone in Oakfield will be able to give you more information on how to clear them out."

I thought this was the gate into Oakfield - it'll be hard for me to get into Oakfield to get info on how to open the gate.  Or am I not noticing something here?  If there is something that I need to figure out on my own that is not a glitch, please tell me.  This is very weird.

Don't worry, dude. You're at the wrong entrance.  I believe you go back down the road that leads to that gate, then go onto the road that leads uphill. You'll know you're going the right way if there are some bandits on your right as you reach the top of that hill. When you get to the top of the hill (After either killing or running away from the bandits) Hang a left and it'll be on your right. It doesn't have a gate.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

I think you have to go through Hobbe Cave - At least, that's what I am trying to do after jumping off that bridge. That's where my game freezes though :/ Disc stops spinning and music and sfx cut out. Then the game freezes and all I can do is return to the dashboard... if I'm lucky.

Edit: Scratch that, I didn't see that you'd already got through the cave... Sad [:(]

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

Lions head! WILL YOU PLEASE RELEASE THE ABBOTT FIX TODAY SO I CAN CONTINUE WITH THE GAME?  I WILL GLADLY TAKE MY CHANCES WITH THE OTHER GLITCHES UNTIL A PATCH FOR THEM IS READY.  I CANNOT DO ANY MISSIONS IN OAKFIELD NO OTHER ONES ARE SHOWING UP SO I AM STRANDED.  I HAVE 880 REKNOWN WHICH IS PLENTY TO DO THESE MISSIONS. I HAVE SPENT 20 HOURS JUST BUILDING UP MY CHARACTER, BUYING HOUSES AND BUSINESSES, BUILDING A FAMILY, AND GETTING REKNOWN.  I REFUSE TO START OVER.  I LOVE THIS GAME, BUT HAVE ALSO BOUGHT FALLOUT 3 WHICH I WAS PLANNING ON PLAYING AFTER THIS ONE. PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME START FALLOUT 3, BECAUSE IT WILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE I COME BACK TO FABLE 2...IF I DO DECIDE TO DO SO.  YOU SAID IN AN INTERVIEW THAT THE ABBOTT GLITCH WAS FIXED...PLEASE RELEASE THE PATCH NOW!!! PLEASE!!!  MY FINAL PLEA, THEN OFF TO FALLOUT 3 INSTEAD.

Maybe all caps will get their attention!!!

ALSO here is a list of problems that we the Gamefaqs.com comunity have noticed.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

Add me to the list of people who have run into this glitch.

10 hours wasted. I have started a new game but am seriously thinking of returning the game. From what I have now read it sounds like there's a minefield of bugs waiting for me.

Not sure that I have the confidence to go on with my latest game. Once was annoying, twice would be really annoying.Sad [:(]

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

Its funny how normal game players like us can figure these stuff out, but the geniuses of Lionhead can't figure out a patch to fix the problem.  Where do they hire lionhead employees? Lionhead makes great games, but they need to reinforced their staff.  Do a few firing to those who let these bugs and glitches get pass the final stages.  There are always someone better at the job.  If they care about consumer satisfaction, they would hire only the best to fullfil a growing demand of video game expectations.  Booooo!  Lionhead.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

I've never gone as far as creating an account on a game forum to express my views before, but I have been patient for over a week, and I'm quite frankly pissed off.

This is going to end up sounding like everyone else's complaining, but one more voice heard just adds to the impact of a hefty handful of pissed off consumers.

Like I said, I have been patient for over a week, waiting to get passed this moronic Abbot issue. For one thing, it has to be the silliest bug in any major game release. I don't play video games, I'm not much of a fan, but I enjoyed Fable so much, I've really been looking forward to the sequal. I milked it for all it was worth- 5 star blacksmith, 5 star lumberjack, family, variety of abilities.... this all came crashing with my first error, which is a saved game which freezes my entire 360 when it hits the exact same point on my loading screen. This one may have been my fault; I switched the console off upon an automatic save I was not in favor of was in progress (I completely understand Lionhead's reasoning behind that feature, but bottomline, I am the consumer, if I want to change my choice and revert back to a saved game, then that's my wish.) So again, could have been my fault. I start a second game- 5 star blacksmith, 5 star lumberjack, beautiful wife and kid, top notch abilities... then I meet the Abbot. I didn't even walk away. There was a monk outside of the doorway, and everyone I met, EVERYONE, I'd stop and make them love me. So I could hear the Abbot making his daughter speech as I played up this monk outside of the Temple. Now I have this Abbot problem. Absolute rubbish. And by the way, the whole slaughter outside of the Sandgoose method isn't working out for me. Tried it twice.

Now anyway, it's not all so much the bug itself that has my panties in a knot, although I again think it's ridiculous something like that gets through. Don't get me wrong- 65,000 bugs taken care of is a lot. I think all these people critisizing that should be slapped. It is a monsterous game, afterall. But this is a big one to let slip through. My real problem that has me expressing my displeasure is the promise to keep us updated. Ted made the post on the forums on the 24th of October. It is now the 1st of November. If there was an ETA for the patch to be released, I would not be sitting here complaining right now. But no. Whenever I have a moment and theres my computer, I'm constantly checking this forum for an update. That is the source of my displeasure.

I'm not going to make petty threats about never purchasing another Lionhead product, because Fable 3 is in the bank for me. I'm also not going to make petty threats about returning the game, because I won't and know it will eventually- EVENTUALLY- get fixed. I'll tell my friends to get it too, because I'd like to play co-op with them. But I will let people know that the Lionhead team hasn't been to curteous as to letting their customers know when they'll be able to play the product they've already purchased.

Just another post on this board with the other whiney individuals who hope to get through to somebody, but just like them, I hope to be another voice heard.

(It is also in my opinion that if they are holding off the patch to fix more bugs, the least they could do is release a small patch to fix problems already dealt with before they all go off and enjoy their weekends. That's another 2 days I know not to expect any progress.)

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

whilst reading MoreSin's very valid post... a thought struck me...

did anyone stop to think that the reason the devs havent been on the forums constantly updating when the patch is coming, is because they are all working their asses off to fix the bugs that I have no doubt they've been flooded with this last week or so?!

    Laugh []

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

i have just hit this problem myself. i have been running around oakfield for the last 36 in game hours trying to figure out what to do next. i decided it would be a G o o d [Good] idea to google for temple of light abott glitches and what do you know a million links show up.  i should have known with the way games are anymore. anyways this just pisses me off, i have over 9 million dollars, own every building for sale in all the cities i have visited so far. i have gathered every chest, dig spot, dive spot, gargoyle and silver key up until this point in the game. so i get to oakfield do my usual and buy all the properties, collect all the items and do some woodcutting to boost the economy of oakfield. then i decide to go visit the abott at the temple of light. i walk into the temple into the yellow circle on the ground and watch as it disappears, but no one responds. now i do remember when i was searching around for items and collectables around oakfield i ran past the temple and heard some people talking.  im guessing that this is when i was supposed to be in the temple listening but this just makes no damn sense. how is a conversation that is supposed to be triggered by entering the yellow objective circle triggered without me even ever entering that circle or without me even ever entering the temple itself for that matter. i hope lionhead fixes this with a patch that will still allow us to finish out the story without having to restart because for me the restart will equal 60 dollars returned to my pocket i am not re-doing all that i have already done again in this time consuming game. it is a really great game but again i repeat I AM NOT RE-DOING EVERYTHING AGAIN. i spent the last week playing this game logging over 15 hours into it and i will not re-do all that mess again. i just hope lionhead fixes it so we can just load up our save, head to the temple of light and have the abbott start responding instead of standing there like a mute.  i even tried to do some more quests to see if maybe i earned the 400 renown needed to escort the girl maybe the abott would speak to me. but that damn guy that is supposed to show up after the sculptor quest. the guy you are supposed to meet in the bar who gives you the quest to fix the bridge by the busted up inn. in rooksville.  he is nowhere to be found i ran around oakfield for an hour looking.  this patch needs to be here soon.  i hope we all get our patch without having to restart

I too have hit this annoying bug and I am stuck with too much time spent in the game to restart. I figure Lionhead should have some idea how many people this effects.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

Not everyone who works for Lionhead is someone who can work night and day to patch something. They do (I would hope) have "community liason" types. Everyone G o o d [Good] developer has people that relay information to the general public. I'm sure SOMEONE at lionhead has the 5 minutes to post. Hell if I worked somewhere like that I would take the 5 minuets to post when I'm off work even.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

I played through the game without any significant problems.  My husband was not as lucky and he is now stuck at the abott glitch in Oakfield.  He cannot leave the area and there are no other quests available.  He is stuck at "The Ritual", in which the abott is unresponsive.  I've noticed that the problem does not come up if you opt to "skip the conversation" by holding down the A button (which is what I think I may have done in my game).  My husband does not recall leaving the temple when the abott was speaking but for some reason the glitch still occured.
