Now some more G o o d [Good] news as another film makes it to safety:

    Answers to Snowy

    by water119

    Genre: Silent Pet Mystery

Duration: nearly 3.5 minutes - released Friday 31st March 2006, 15 ratings, 4.8 star average

BBFC rating: U - suitable for all

    **** stars

A nice little silent-cinema tale about a man looking for his lost dog. Nice ending which I managed to figure out about 10 seconds before the reveal (a real head-slapper!). G o o d [Good] modded textures.

    Thanks themonk.

Some may ask why I'm doing this.

In answer to norrie's question, it's easy.

In 20 days, there will be nothing left of TMO.

I, having a massive library of films already, have decided to take peoples' suggestions and save as many more as I can.

But, it's my opinion which decides whether I like a film enough for it to go into the archive (which is after all my own harddrive space - currently 12.6 GB of it). I'm not going to waste diskspace on films I don't intend to watch again.

So if someone's suggested a film and it doesn't go in - they get told that here so they can decide to download it themselves and save it that way. If I don't say anything, then they might assume that it's been rescued.

All films that make it into my archive will be available for anyone to request long after they have been extinguished on December 5th.

There are any number of reasons why this is a G o o d [Good] thing. And I can give some examples where it paid off during the previous TMO crash - the last time when some people thought they had lost their films.

    1) You've got one of your old films on your harddrive - next morning it doesn't start up, it's completely dead, and everything on it is lost. You realise you hadn't backed up your first prize-winning movie.

    2) You've not visited a TM forum in the last couple of months, suddenly you get the urge to watch some of your old films as you intend to get back into the game. You arrive at TMO to find they've all disappeared forever.

    3) It's useful having someone with a massive "museum" of the better films. That way, a large percentage of the films representative of the best this site had to offer will be preserved.

    Keep 'em coming!

While using the random button tonight, the first film that came up was one I'd already given 4-stars to - but wasn't in the archive, probably a victim of a harddrive crash in 2007. It also has a sequel out too.

So "The Perfect Soldier" parts 1 & 2 by troublemaker911 are now on the lifeboat.

    That's confidence for you!

You KNEW that was going to get on the boat.

    A Bushranger in Texas

    by Armand

    Genre: Colonial Comedy

    Duration: 15.5 minutes - released Tuesday 16th October 2007, 43 ratings, 4.81 star average

BBFC rating: /PG\ - for mild expletives

    ***** stars

A finely crafted piece of work here. Well acted with only minor problems in sound quality for some of the main characters.

An unusual and original comedy which occasionally relied on sight-gags and farts to get its laughs, but also had some genuinely funny moments and evidence of much thought going into the script.

Very G o o d [Good] sound design and the editing was flawless. I also liked the small details which needn't have been there but added so much to the picture and the atmosphere (such as a passing "nice hat stranger" from one of the locals).

The music was G o o d [Good] too - "Hammer 'n' Tap" suited this film well.

So, all-in-all, an excellent film here.

That, of course, means the sequel has also been saved and will be watched after December 5th.

Thanks Burkey! This quality film is one of those that had a serious chance of never being seen again.

These are the most at-risk films,

    * Films made by directors who none of us have heard from in months or years
    * Films made by directors who've rarely visited the forums
    * Films made over a year ago
    * Films with relatively few ratings

In a few days, I'll be posting my complete list of films archived so far (in alphabetical order). Hopefully that will make it easier to see any glaring omissions - or maybe trigger memories of other films that should be in alongside the ones already there.

    19 days remaining.

MixMasterFuse drew a blank; I think you mean MixMasterFestus - I've just checked my archive for some of his films and have found some serious gaps in there. Like "Oh It's On" 1 & 2 wasn't in there (despite me giving them 4 & 5 stars back in the day)!

So - all remaining films in the "Oh It's On" series have now been downloaded. "The Hollow Dance" is already in.

The rest of his films will be watched in the following order:

"Luckiest **** Ever Falls Down Stairs"

    "The Movies Review"

    "So Here I Am"

    "The Final Stipulation"

    then pookashell's films:

    "Angel's Fall (Part 1)"

    "In the Cover of Darkness"

"King Kong (Part One)" is already archived.

Thankyou for your suggestions Smily [:)]

Incidentally, both episodes of esegal's "Affari" are now in the archive.
As is a hi-res version of nayazu's "One Night at the Blue Note" (downloading now).

"Luckiest *** Ever Falls Down Stairs" by mixmasterfestus got *** stars and won't be on the lifeboat.

    However, this one's in:

    The Movies Review

    by mixmasterfestus

    Genre: Videogame Criticism

Duration: nearly 2.5 minutes - released Saturday 21st January 2006, 130 ratings, 4.9 star average

BBFC rating: (15) - for bad language and violence

    **** stars

Some of the lines were well rushed but apart from that, there were some G o o d [Good] gags and great backdrop work (this being made before overlays were invented).

A product of its time, this review of The Movies now takes on a more historic significance as it documents first-hand pretty accurately what this game was about when there was a TMO to upload to, and also the phenomenon of the 1-star ninja!

    So Here I Am

    Genre: Moral Dilemma

    Duration: 3 minutes - released Tuesday 8th August 2006, 68 ratings, 4.84 star average

BBFC rating: U - suitable for all

    ***** stars

A very G o o d [Good] film - would you go to prison rather than have the blood of tens of thousands of people on your hands, even knowing that someone else would be brought in to finish the job if you didn't?

The music fit well as did the VO. The missile and schematic inserts were also well placed.

This is the kind of moral dilemma that would make a G o o d [Good] extended movie.

Re: All aboard the JazzX Lifeboat!

Maybe it's because I'm starting to get into the Xmas spirit (lol - as if), but here's one I might dig out every Xmas from now on, it kind of sums the whole thing up:

    The Final Stipulation

    by mixmasterfestus

    Genre: Xmas Satire

Duration: nearly 3 minutes - released Friday 15th December 2006, 43 ratings, 4.58 star average

BBFC rating: (15) - for bad language

    **** stars

Some of the VO was badly delivered and I lost some of the jokes as a result. But I liked this, at times, biting satire as we see Santa getting drunk on Christmas Eve having had enough of his contract with Coca-Cola. Poor Santa II at the end as well ... (loved the dig at Coke's shareholders being racist)

    I suggest watching Angel's fall part 1. Very G o o d [Good].

Affari was G o o d [Good] as well, glad you picked that up! I don't believe esegal is around anymore, too bad, he was a G o o d [Good] pal of mine.

Next into the lifeboat is this first part of an excellent crime thriller:

    Angels Fall (Part1)

    by pookashells

    Genre: Futuristic Crime Thriller

Duration: nearly 28 minutes - released Friday 28th December 2007, 43 ratings, 4.88 star average

BBFC rating: [18] - for gruesome scenes

    ***** stars

An engaging crime story set in the near future. Well played for the most part and well edited too. The script is excellent, although there's one Hollywood coincidence which requires a suspension of disbelief (the female cop's brother is a junkie and just so happens to be buying drugs off the same dealer that she wants to question).

The attack on "Carlson's" could have been done better - all we got was an exterior view of a building and some not particularly evocative sound effects supposed to sell the carnage going on inside.

I didn't like the scratched camera lense during the opening and I thought there should have at least been a title for the film.

But the characters were well formed, and there was a lot of meat on the bones (to quote one of Elliot's lines from the movie) to this story; G o o d [Good] lines. I hope one day to see the sequel which is no longer on the internet as far as I can see.

boy, i'd hate to see this one get tossed overboard. it's the only one of my online movies you haven't reviewed. your chance to catch some of my earlier work. it's an oldie, without stunts and effects. with canned movies music, and vo's by me and my wife. please excuse the embarrassing english accent on the news reporter. it averaged over 4 stars, maybe you'll agree. it is listed as romance, but is really action. i was new to making movies, and i was trying to mask the twist.

enjoy 'I Hate My Job' a short look at the life of Jim Leach, who, well... hates his job.

This one narrowly makes it into the boat:

In the Cover of Darkness (Pookashells version)

    by pookashells

    Genre: African Fantasia

    Duration: 14 minutes - released Sunday 30th March 2008, 40 ratings, 4.97 star average

BBFC rating: (15) - for bad language, violence and gore

    **** stars

Beautifully shot for the most part, the one exception being an African shield which seemed to be in the background of most jungle shots.

The acting got better as the film went on but I didn't find the early scenes too convincing.

I liked the irony of what happened to the priest, a blackly comic moment.

My main problem with this film was the story - I thought it was ridiculous.

We are led to believe that an eclipse caused a whole crop and water supply to vanish!? But that wasn't all that was wrong with this - I found it completely unbelievable when the Aid worker suddenly turned on Steven near the end. I didn't get any sense of him being an unhinged personality from earlier in the film, it was completely out of character and very contrived. The dialogue during the conflict made no sense in terms of what had gone before in the story.

However, there were some memorable visual moments in the film (the dance at the waterfall being an example), and that's why it's getting rescued.

Well, I have it archived, if anybody wants to see it after next month.

It's going to be a boring time on the lifeboat without 'I Hate My Job' but I'm sure you guys will survive.

ps. I got rid of the annoying buzz in my V.O.'s btw. It was as simple as unplugging my laptop, and letting it run on batteries while I was recording. The buzz was coming from the charger. Side effect of that is that I have a motivation to get my V.O.'s done faster now, so my battery won't run down.
