    Playing about with displacement mapping...
Nothing fancy, but I rather liked the effectHappy [:)] EDIT - and it looks shite after it's been squished by the forum. Click on it for full size...

I suck at displacement mapping. Silly [:p] But yes nice effect there and gotta hate the forum resizing. Wink [;)]

I kind of regret posting it now - not because it was just a bit of messing about, but more because the longer I look at the ring on the right, the more it begins to resemble a carefully sculpted turd...Paranoid [:Paranoid:]

I thought this was intended. Nervous [:nervous:] A rusty metal ring or a turd floating through the air. I was a bit irritated by the flowers on rust, so I tended to the other material. After all it's art I thought, nothing to say against. Wink [;)] Paranoid [:Paranoid:]
Everyone should boycott Ubisoft and their new Online DRM for PC games. This has gone too far in the reduction of the rights of users and I am sick of it! It is not made to fight piracy, but to control the customer.

That's impressive! Are the flowers part of the displacement too or modeled separately. UVW Map?

Re: 3D - Post it all here

Nah, the flowers are pre-made and stuck on the ring as later detail to flesh things out a tiny bit, much like the trees (well, the trees were more sort of 'grown' then adapted using tree-building tools, tbh). @Quaseman - at the time it was meant to be soil. I was sort of looking out of the window at my garden - which has some flowers and rocks looking quite a lot like that - and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Ironically, looking out the window again, there's also an enormous cat turd in my garden. Maybe there's something subconsicious going on there...

Thought I'd bump this as it was quite popular prior to the change. It was residing on page 10 or so of the sub-forum becasue of a weird last-post timestamp, so I thought I'd save people having to start a new oneWink [;)]

Re: 3D - Post it all here

I'm pretty sure the trees are premade models in whatever program matnee is using.

Re: 3D - Post it all here

All done in Vue again. The trees aren't exactly pre-made - they're made using the tree-building tools in the app. Seeing as it's primarily a landscaping tool, it needs the option to have variety in the plantlife for fairly obvious reasons. It'd look a bit daft if you rendered a scene that had 50 identical bushes on a hillside, for a startWink [;)]

Up [] Great stuff. I was never really able to easily work in Blender or 3dmax without getting frustrated. Whenever I see this stuff it makes me want to pick it up again.

I know this sounds like an advert plug, but those of you who are interested should definitely check out Mount&Blade.
It's a really easy program to mod, and I can see some of you guys might be able to take the visual aspect of the game to a new level, and I guess you could 'hone your mad skillz' too.
Yes, I am shameless. Wink [;)]
Watch me get banned or flamed for this... lol.

OMG I <3 dis gaem guys!

Re: 3D - Post it all here

Just out of interest, has anyone tried using Carrara before? I've read some G o o d [Good] reviews about it, and it looks like it might have a less steep learning curve than 3dMax etc, which, seeing as I'm probably never going to use all the the features Max offers.

I only ask because v5 is on special right now, with a free auto upgrade to 6 in a few weeks...

Needed a few pics for a job interview I have soon, so I had a go at rendering some of the props and sets I have made for The Movies.   All rendered in Blender.

Re: 3D - Post it all here

I wouldn't want you to get lonely in here, Maggot (cool model, BTW, but I don't know Rachet and Clank, so I have no idea what it is Stick out tongue [:P] ), so I thought I'd put some of my own stuff in. Unfortunately, almost all the 3D work I've been doing lately has been for The Movies, so it's way too low poly for this thread. I did, however, dig up this face that I was working on for an animated film I was making entirely in 3DS, before I realised what an insanely long and difficult undertaking that would be (in fact, making and animating this face helped me to realise that). I used photo mapping (at least, that's what I call it, don't know if it's the right name or not) to make it, by which I mean I placed a photo in the background of my front and side view screens and modeled the face over the top of that (something I'd read in a tutorial once tipped me off to the technique). She's far from perfect, but I think she's an okay first effort. Haven't done any faces since, so I really don't know how I'd go now that I've learnt a lot more about using 3DS. Anyway, here she is.

    Check out the mods here.
