    Re: Gamespy mentioned bows.

Peter was only aloud to show melee combat at the presentations but kept trying to satisfy people by saying everything applied to magic and ranged, too.  So you fire rapidly with a gun and only hit your target half the time while getting less experience or charge one up, aim, and take him out in one shot for a truck-load?  Or fire many rapid fireballs and do less damage while also recieving a reduction in reward, or charge one up while he's rushing at you, then fire it in his face at the last second and get a bunch of experience at the same time?
The melee system sounds great to me.  And looks great.  It really looks like fun to smash heads, maneuver, and violently impale people when you set it up right, but I don't see how that would work with guns.  (Magic on the other hand, well, you feel awesome just from having a variety of really painful, epic in scale spells.)  I wouldn't feel like an expert marksmen by merely hitting something more often, and I can't figure out any other way you could really upgrade it.  I mean, you're just sitting there, shooting a gun.  You're not running, maneuvering, manipulating, setting up the plays, or using the environment around you or any of that great, fun, interesting stuff if it's merely your dog as the distraction and you picking off the guys surrounding him.
And how exactly do you button mash with a slow-shooting rifle?  I'm totally in the dark, and it's bugging the crap outta me.  Maybe Lionhead is brilliant and has come up with an ingenious, flawless, exciting, feel-G o o d [Good] way to make ranged combat work with every type of gamer that none of us would ever think of, but I'm having my doubts.  Only video diary 4 will tell.  Perhaps.

    Re: Gamespy mentioned bows.

sure longbows are pretty sweet, but they're not supposed to be accurate. they're only useful when they're used in/against large numbers, like on the battlefield. Unless you want to try sniping at 300 yards away (max range) or else just shoot them at the normal range of a shortbow (100yards) or crossbow (200 yards). Except shortbows can only puncture chain armor(sometimes) and leather armor (all the time). And longbows can puncture plate armor at any distance up to 300 yards. The real value was in it's range, but when you get to that close of a distance, you might as well use a crossbow.

how the hell would you charge up a gun? that makes no sense at all...

    nasos_333:

Hope magic is even more huge that it was in Fable 1, with bigger/better spells and effects, like the incredible fireball that you could power up on the fly, now that was COOL, hope it remains in Fable 2

Powering up spells on the fly is just amazing, hope most spells use it in Fable 2 for various effects

And better summoning too, like real looking summons, not blue, and clever ones, and more than one

well the summons were G o o d [Good] if you know how to use them...if what they kill is a higher "level" than they are, they become it.

Sigh... seriously not wanting to play Fable 2 just because there are no bows?

    I mean common... in 15 years time what if fable 3 comes out and its set 5000 years later and we have bloody machineguns would you guys still be like;

    “Where are the bows?”

    “I want a bow”

    “I don’t care if it’s not G o o d [Good] damage compared to a gun”

“Why ant it right for the time Fable 3 is set in”

    > >

To me the time line for weapons was like Bows --- Crossbows --- Guns

Fable 2’s theme is like The Highwaymen… right?

So what’s more affective “Stand and Deliver!!!” – With a bow or “Stand and Deliver!!!” – With a gun?

well at the time period that I think this is set in I'm pretty sure that crossbows, longbows, and guns were still widely used. but i might be wrong. i'm thinking like a Gustavus Adolphus-type time period?

    firefreak:

wait wait wait, crossbows are noisy now? when did that happen. last time i checked crossbows were pretty quiet and there also the assassins weapon of choice. if your hiding in the dark you dont wanna have to hold up an immense longbow and pull back 120 pounds of draw power to get your shot, thats pretty noticable, plus longbows are harder to carry round.

crossbows now, are much more useful. easily slung over a shoulder and easy to pull back the bowstring (all that in fable1 about taking ages to prime a crossbow was bull), the only crossbows that took awhile to load where the ones that where as tall as a man, and they had winders to make it easier. its also much easier to aim a crossbow.

ah, actually, crossbows are much harder to load than longbows. ever seen someone loading and firing a crossbow? much harder than they showed it in Fable. I guess they made up for that quickness by letting you charge it up for more power. For a longbow, you just take the arrow, nock it, aim, pull, and release. Crossbow: Take arrow; set in shaft; put front of crossbow against ground, with the back of it against your waist; bend over and grab string with both hands and pull it up to the notch/desired power/rangeStick out tongue [:P]ick it back up again(these things were kinda heavy), aim and fire.

    Re: Gamespy mentioned bows.

I think it would be G o o d [Good] if they kept bows in the game, if only for stealth. Correct me if im mistaken (whick i seriously doubt i am), but dont guns make a heck of a lot of noise! And i dont think that they had any silencers for them. I want there to be something like a short bow for stealth attacks on people.

    Re: Gamespy mentioned bows.

They might have replaced the bow with other ranged weapons which there are a lot of. It might also have something to do with how they see stealth gameplay in itself.

How about throwing daggers for stealth? They don't take any time at all, are lightwieght and don't make noise. And they suit the timeperiod. What do you guys think?

Exactomundo. Smily [:)] We know daggers are in. They might also have the throwing "stars" that were missing from F1. Then there's blowguns, various rope like weapons, etc.

On the other hand, they might see stealth gameplay purely from a close combat perspective, that'd be kinda odd, but who knows.

cause they are E v i l [Evil] and wanna keep us guessing XD

    Haha... yes

They are keeping us guesing about ALOT of things at the moment

    May I just say,
Alot of people are here saying bows and arrows are stealthy...
    umm,
well I agree they aren;t as loud as a gun..
And they are pretty quiet... but I wouldn;t call them stealthy (not as stealthy as clicing some-one's throat from behind)
Also.. if you watch a real video of someone shooting an arrow at an animal or person..
The person / animal generally knows they have been shot at, before they see of feel the arrow... (they hear it being fired)

I was talking about this. Okay, they never actually confirmed whether these were actually throwable or not, but it's quite likely.

Those stars look soo cool! Well I must congratulate Lionhead on all their ideas that went into Project Ego. But I can see why people who were following the game from the very  beginning were really disappointed when many concepts were cut.

So put those stars in this time Lionhead. Ninja [:ninja:]Ninja [:ninja:]Ninja [:ninja:]

Bows NEED to be in fable 2..it wouldnt be the same without them...its not too 'mixed' to have both guns and bows....Im sure most of us still want them in and its probably what alot of people like being skilled most with too Smily [:)]

Well, apparently Fable 2 don't need bows, because bows won't be there, you can say anything you want, bows are out.

    Re: Gamespy mentioned bows.

I'm so glad they will not be in the game (maybe).  They were my least favorite part of Fable.  Please don't hammer me for that people, it's just a personal opinion.

I just want to ask: I Fable 2, have they invented rifled barrels yet?  Because I remember that the blunderbuss was not a rifled gun.

You had to be really close to them in order to aim.  That's why they used to line up in older wars with guns.  So are the guns rifled?

If they aren't, I would rather have a bow.  I would hate to miss everytime unless I shot from 10 meters away.

PS - If you don't know what a rifled barrel is, then look it up.

Edit: ScorpionZ7 - Robbin Hood was set in a time period without guns.  Just thought I should clear that up before anyone gets called a bad name.

    Is that mayo...?

    Re: Gamespy mentioned bows.

Sam, all I know is that bows are great...obviously lionhead shouldnt put them as the ONLY range weapon...but at least make us have the option to choose it...i'd say about 97% of us wouldnt mind if bows were kept because we loved it in fable 1....it was just as important as the sword...guns don't really take much skill to use either....PLEASE...PLEASE...consider it....i can guarentee you lionhead would not regret it

    Re: Gamespy mentioned bows.

I don't think the guns in Fable2 will be close to reality, I think they will be more like blunderbuss with accuracy or something like that.
