I read "The Gunslinger", which if I remember correctly is a prequel to that or the first part of it. Bad, bad book. Overrated and just plain rubbish. Not involving, poor character development. But, I'm sure "The Dark Tower" is nothing like it.

I'm not too sure, I haven't even gotten 1/4th of the book. But as far as I've gotten it's decent.. I've read better books though..

I read Omens not too long ago, and re-read 1984 about a month back. If you like 1984 check out This Perfect Day by Ira Levine. Sort of the same premise with some good differences in it. I am glad to hear the Night Watch series is being released in whole here. I can buy the first one without any fears of not finishing it. I assume that the books will be released along with the movies? I need to get Day Watch, thought the American release might have better translated subtitles.

I am reading George Orwell's 1984, and in it I take delight. I can't help but wonder though... If you took away all the oppression and production shortage, would it really be such a crappy society to live in? Only if I did it... If other people tried to build a cool society they would surely fail miserably, due to the sheer fact that they aren't as awesome as me. So very tedious...

I'm suprised no Elmore Leonard has shown up, but then i like the books to movies books, lol.

I got bored so I've just started reading 'Masters of Doom'... again... for the fourth or fifth time. It's about Carmack & Romero and id software, Ion Storm, etc. I just finished '1up: how japanese videogames gave the world an extra life' (might not be the exact sub-title) for the second time. What would I recommend... 'Times Arrow' by Martin Amis, a great book with a unique mechanic, fairly disturbing too.

Just finished Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card for the third time. Currently reading Infinite Jest by someone that I can't remember, and it's a crazy book so far. The Dark Tower series, which I'm now on "Wizard and Glass" the fifth time through. A couple other Stephen King books: The Stand, Salem's Lot, Hearts in Atlantis. Pretty much all the books in some way connected to the Dark Tower series. A couple of books on modeling, texturing, animating etc. And the small printing on the side of the rum bottle. Not quite a book, but it can make for a difficult read if said bottle has been emptied enough.

I last read that a month or so ago. Brilliant book. The rest of his Ender series is fun, but not nearly as good. His spin-off series about Bean is more like Ender's Game though.

If you can find an original version of Star Wars by George Lucas, you'll love it. The first chapter is about Luke hanging out with his buddies, Wedge and Biggs. They have told him they are off to Star Academy, that's why he badgers his uncle to let him go. Then again I haven't read it in over 25 years so some of the facts could be off. But it does fill in a few of the plot elements. I'm not sure if the newer editions have this same first chapter or not.

I'm stuck into the series of Unfortunate Evenets. It's way better than the movie because in the film it's all mixed up, even between the books. The marriage was actually in the first book but it's at the end of the film! Anyway, it can be a bit depressing but I just love the sophistication and excitement of it. I'm on book 13! Does anyone else read this series???

I have actually read about half of the books in the Unfortunate Events series. I am on book seven. The only problem I have with them, being older and knowing most of the words used, is the pauses to explain words, and the fact that every book is nearly the same. Still a decent series and worth reading a few of the books in the series. I was reading "War of the Worlds" but I left it at my brother's place. So I will have to wait until I go back, or have him send it to me. I have oodles of books to read, so no big deal, not like it is hard to forget what is going on in WOTW.

I know exactly what you mean. I also don't like it when it says stuff like, 'Sunny said,"Googa safty!", which translated into normal human syntax means, " Let us leave".' I hate that! Isn't it annoying. Have you got to the book where it has a word repeating for a whole page. That was annoying...

Haha! Yeah, I skipped those pages. But you have to remember that they are written for children, or for parents to read to their children as bedtime stories. So most of the annoyances can be overlooked.

Just finished the hilarious Alphabet of Manliness by Maddox. The book really expounds on what real men love about life... and Chuck Norris. Now I'm reading For us, the Living by Robert A. Heinlein. It's a posthumous publication about a pilot/engineer of the late 1930's who is in an accident and wakes up in 2018. I like it, so far, even though I hated Stranger in a Strange Land.
