I've posted one method in the past, though (obviously better res means larger file, means takes up more studio space. Could also be construed as 'against the rules'). The newer method I discovered is probably still construed as modding, as it involves changing the prx files that define the wmv export types, using Windows Media Profile Editor. But since it's technically modding, I can't really go into detail about how to change the prx files, with Windows Media Profile Editor.

I never knew you could make it better at all!

For the betterment of the visual quality of everyone's films who reads this - I've decided to upload an extremely small zip file - the same one that Rysto gave me (he says Pookashells gave it to him). If it is mod talk to announce to an entire community the most simplest way of improving the visual quality of their films then sue me. I'm peeing on the rule book! Because this benefits everyone - the people who make the films and those who watch them. If everyone knew about this then the visual quality of most films would be increased and casual visitors might be tempted to buy the game - so it benefits Lionhead too. This is such an amazing thing - it should be stickied for all to see. To make your films visually superior quality, be aware that your film will be at least 25% larger than it was before - take account of that when you're going low on studio space. Here are the instructions: 1) Download this zip file from this location: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DTUH8JQC 2) Take out the folder marked "video" and place it whole in your "Program Files/Lionhead Studios/The Movies/Data" folder 3) Export your film as normal in online quality - your movie will come out on TMO in High Quality instead What the new folder does is fool the system into believing that you are exporting in online quality - but you are actually exporting in High quality. There's apparently the possibility of doing Super Hi-Res, but the space we're allocated (50mb) would not last at all long in Super Res. Just a couple of minutes of footage. So High is more than an acceptable compromise. It's the holy grail for me. I've long dreamed of having control over the quality of my films and how much studio space they take up. I'm so thankful Pookashells and Rysto, and anyone else responsible for this terrific piece of work, Everyone should know about this.

If you're relatively computer savvy, use the Profile Editor I mentioned above. It's part of the WMV Encoder Pack. This is especially useful if you're exporting for the sake of external editing, but don't like how Highest turns out. It's just a shame it's taken so long for people to listen.

The MODification takes up more Mega Byte storage so if you are willing to sacrifice the number of movies to have a few good video quality ones so be it. Everyone is still granted only a 50 MB storage for their studio.

Ahem! I get 35 Mb no choice. But because the Mac version res is 4Mb a minute (again not my choice) I have two 3+ minute movies on line and room for no more. So don't come whinging to me with your mod driven, overlay effects hungry woes Norrie (Bitter? No...)

Where the hell is the download link, if can't find it anywhere

Though not for online, I managed to get a 1024x576 HQ export out of the game. As you may (or may not) be aware, that's better than the default "Highest" It didn't work so well with the named files for the lower res types, but it's pretty nice as it is. If you're interested, gimme a buzz on skype
