Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

I'm not really all too impressed with it so far. To tell you what I dislike:

    1. The smileys have become a lot more annoying to use Tongue Tied [:S]
    2. The enters skip one line too many if ask me.
    3. The forum feels big and clunky.
    4. It's way too white. Prefered the old colours (and looks).
    5. Harder to navigate through. I really have to think where to click to get somewhere.
    6. Few explanations when it comes to stuff like contributions. Stick out tongue [:P]
    7. The search function is now very, very clumsy.
    8. It's impossible to simply see all threads a certain member started.

I'm also wondering about the blogging. Will ex-HKs be the only ones ever able to use them, and if not, how will other members become able to blog?

And I've got some other random questions too, but it's late over here, so that'll have to wait. Stick out tongue [:P] All in all, I'd like some proper, simple explanations of some of the new features. Classic [:classic:]

Edit: Well, just found a massive downside to this change. The B&W Fan-fiction board is gone. Sad [:(] And a swift search has yielded no results. Even my old story thread is gone.

I feel discriminated on, considering how Fable 2 still retains it's fan-fiction forum. I realise the B&W fan-fiction forum wasn't very active anymore, but it had some darned Good [Good] stories out there.

    I feel violated. Sad [:(]

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

I have a comment regarding Karma: I'm not sure if it's a Good [Good] idea to expose our Karma Points. I don't what the new system will implement but if it's some kind of point system similar to the old Karma system, then it wouldn't be a Good [Good] idea to display the points. I think what some people might end up doing is that if someone looks at those points and see how close they are in reaching the next rank, some might give them points for "the heck of it". Likewise, if someone just recently reached that rank, someone might take those points away just for "the heck of it"...

But then again, I don't what the new system will bring so I don't even know if my comment would still be valid by then, but I thought I'd say something about it.

Just sharing my opinion that I previously posted before in another thread. Other than that, I think with a few more tweaks, and this forum would look spiffy! Smile [:)]

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

    Hey guys!

After popping onto the forums and taking a few minutes to catch myself up to speed (going to take a little getting used to no doubt) I think that there's a number of things I like and a number I'm not too keen on.  But frankly, with the forums being less than a day old, there's no telling what features are staying, getting removed, or getting added, so I'll probably have a better opinion on things in about a month's time, maybe less.

Now as this is a rather big transition, and since administration is currently logged off (and I'm probably going to be the only mod on for a while) if anybody has any questions or forum horror-stories feel free to PM and I'll attempt at helping in any way I can.

But frankly, my knowledge is almost as limited as you guys' on how things work around here.  Stick out tongue [:P]

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

Why show it at all though?  I mean it had to have been placed there intentionally, right?  Nothing's going to show up in a nice little format unless it's coded that way, imo.  To me, it takes away from the fresh start, and while people are getting used to the new forums, they have that little grinding reminder of something they'll never be able to achieve.  Makes it a less friendly place, imo.  Karma never mattered to me, it was usually just a way to see if someone had a beef with me, and I never even looked at how many total points I had, until now that it's posted there for all to see.  Not only that, but it's like a double shove in your face now that you have one line with total Karma and the "Former" badges for all to see.  Seems to me they could have kept that info in another section of their profile and let everyone start out anew, unhindered by a system that supposedly caused so many issues to the point where they felt it was necessary to get rid of it.  If you're getting rid of it, then what better time could there have been than when you introduce a new forum with a new look, etc.?  Oh, well.  There's a lot to sort of figure out and get used to.

Btw, could there be a format button that allows you to let the forum fill up the whole space instead of just a space in the middle?  I'm sort of getting a THX-1138 feeling from all the white, lol.

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

Kind of on the same lines as what EmeraldEdge wrote, I'm not really sure what the point of the Former badges and Total Karma is.  Since the rep system and the old forums are gone it should be impossible for anyone else to gain those badges, are the badges just a temporary thing to make this place feel more like the old forums or will Former MK's and HK's be labeled like that forever?

Editing and deleting posts is a little bugged at this point, editing only seems to work for about 5 minutes after posting and deleting a post doesn't work at all.

Now that I have said the negative things I will say the positive.  First of all no more rep system Up [] which already makes the place seem more equal.  The forums look much more organized, the color might need a little adjustment but it looks Good [Good] other than that.  Lastly it looks like a few nice features have been added through the toolbars.

    Are you an ODST (fanboy)?

Composing is actually much easier once you take a look at it. A nice job indeed. I honestly think the photo posting could be changed.

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

I love the slick look of the new site but I feel a few of the features are still a little clumsy and some buttons, a bit pointless.

It's a little strange they now show exact karma for everyone to see after the stict no-show policy on the old site.

I've been thinking the same thing. I don't like them quite so much right now because, after being used to old LH, there's a load of stuff I have no idea how to use yet.

I think that'll be the source of complaints for the time being.  For a while it'll be just a matter of getting used to the new way things look and the new way things are done.  But check back in a year and I'll bet we won't even be able to imagine going back to how it was "before".  Wink [;)]

    A couple of things:

The edit time limit. Eh? They get rid of the feature in that you can't edit a post once an hour has passed. Well, makes sense. But now it seems you have to wait an hour to edit or delete.I'm all confused Sad [:(].

Identical double posts, and a triple post I saw, are springing up everywhere. I'm guessing this is because we're clicking the button twice, but the whole site seems laggier than old LH.

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

The site's ok. Feels a bit....assimilitive. Hoping they can sort this karma loss thing. I lost 111 karma and any reference to HK or MK for that matter. I know the rep system isn't here anymore but if there are benefits there for members for High Karma before, I'd like to be able to use em as I did reach HK before the transfer :(

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

Not too sure about the smaller size...seems a bit squashy to me, but I guess that I have been used to looking at the wider old one.

    Overall though I am liking.

But what is with the old rep being displayed? Is that staying forever?

    TADA!!! Big Smile [:D]

Re: The New Community Site: Feedback

I like the new look and feel, but it is far from being flawless right now.

Why doesn't the forum use the full size of the browser? The old one did a dynamic resizing of the page to fit the screen, the new one has big empty spaces left and right! Tongue Tied [:S]

I'm curious what we have to expect from this former MK/HK thing, as it doesn't have any use right now, does it? I also lost about 100 points through the transfer but I think it is related to the time the rep was given. Say the last two weeks were just removed. Why keep this anyway if the system is no longer there?

How does that conrtibution bar work? The more spam you produce, the more you contribute? Stick out tongue [:P]

The forum doesn't work in Opera browser. It is displayed well and you can login but you cannot write messages in the text editor. Also some buttons cause Opera to freeze. If you run Opera parallel to IE7, the graphics of the whole desktop are flickering! Java or Java Script problem? You may have to make a warning to use Internet Explorer only on this boards! Anyone tested Firefox right now?

There is the next problem because I have to use IE now, I don't have a spell checker any more. So what about an integrated spellchecker?

The forums are also very slow on IE compared to the display time in Opera, but again you can't post using Opera, so ...

Good [Good] work so far nonetheless. Keep it up LH-Team! Smile [:)]

Nice to see the joining date now works, at least for me. Wink [;)]
