    Re: Riley's Modding Updates

    Thanks guys.  :)

Getting close to finishing with the 80's living room.  Hopefully there won't be as much work with the 30's living room. Stick out tongue [:P]

More stuff I've extracted:  various cupboards, appliances, fire logs, ornaments, doilies, rugs, trees, bushes, hedges.  Just a handful more to go.

    OUCH!

    Greatastic job, indeed.

I think you've done the most dressed up set (which means -- hint, hint -- all others will be quite easy to do).

And I probably Kwistufa was thinking about a Santa coming out of this fireplace (put it on a set with the fire prop burning and it should work amazingly.)

I think so too -- it's nuts how much stuff is in the living room.  I was looking at some of the sci-fi bridges, and they're absolutely skimpy in comparison.

I've just about finished making the living room set-as-a-prop.  I hit a few snags and had to work through them (one more snag to work through still).  The screenshot below is one variation of the set as a prop (cupboards & appliances, but no furniture); there are several other variations I'm making.  It also shows the "broken edge" that's normally on the floor has been fixed -- that should provide a little more wiggle room with the camera.

And you might notice that's not the usual Blue Screen set...  I was finding that some of the scenes were just too close to the Blue Screen's backdrop, and it was getting in the way.  So I made an "emptied out" Blue Screen, which I'm calling the "Empty Space" set.

Download the Empty Space Set here   It uses the same scenes as the Blue Screen (set #41).  The floor is configurable using the same slider.  All I did to make it was remove all the meshes except the blue floor and surrounding pavement. (I also had to add a "fake" invisible mesh in to ensure set dressing could be raised in the usual fashion.)

    Re: Riley's Modding Updates

Shouldn't be too much longer...  I just have to fix up the light-maps for some of the emptied-out versions of the living room.

I also had the need for some sidewalk props, customizable wall-mounted posters, and the Casting Office building, for my upcoming film.  I'll be releasing those as soon as I've made the "dark" variations of them.

Oh, and a small fix for that "Empty Space" set.  The mesh I added to ensure set dressing could be raised off the ground was visible as a large grey triangle if you turned the camera all the way around.  I made it invisible.  Download the fix here.

    Re: Riley's Modding Updates

Just a really quick update to tide things over here...

Making the thumbnails for all these props is incredibly boring. Stick out tongue [:P]  There are somewhere in the neighbourhood of 150 props, and that's not counting the lighting varieties.  I tend to just do about a dozen or so in a sitting, and then switch to working on my next film project.  About two-thirds of the thumbnails are done.

So don't think I've abandoned this...  It just really does take a lot of (very monotonous) work. Ninja [:ninja:]

Now on to a little bit of content...  I had the need for a number of simple props in my next film.  Among them were customizable wall-mounted movie posters.  I made 5 -  here they are.  Smile [:)]

They're available in both standard and darkened lighting, and are placed under "Decorative" in AMM.  Change the image file "posters_b01to05.dds" in your favourite image editor to change the poster images.  (Edit:  To make it easier... here is a JPG version of that image.)

    Download the posters pack here!

My future modpack release pipeline currently looks like this:

    • A "sidewalks" pack -- Sidewalks in eight different sizes:  1 by 2, 1 by 4, 1 by 8, 1 by 16, 2 by 2, 2 by 4, 2 by 8, 2 by 16.  Should be tomorrow.
    • The 80's living room set - complete works.  Sometime next week.
    • The casting office facility building - complete works.  This will include a built-from-scratch interior.  Sometime shortly after the release of "To TMO or Not To TMO".
    • The sci-fi-bridges sets - complete works.  I had a request for some props from these.  For now, the release date is TBA.
    • The 30's living room set - complete works.  Release TBA.

    Hey Rileyman,

    Brilliant work.  Love it.

I might have missed it, but have you done (or intend doing) the bathroom set/s?  I have need of a toilet... (no, seriously!)  Smile [:)]

Haven't done the bathrooms yet...  But I can take a quick look and see how easy it is to extract the toilet, Mr. Underpants Man! Stick out tongue [:P]

First thing's first...  The sidewalks, in eight different sizes.  Set at just the right height for actors to stand & walk on.

    Re: Riley's Modding Updates

    Finally, it's done!

1980's Living Room - The Complete Works

I've separated this into three separate downloads.  Click the appropriate links below for the downloads!  (And scroll back in the thread for screenshots.)

    1)  Set-as-a-Prop and All Dressing as Props

Download the Main 80's Living Room pack here.
    (ZIP file, 15096 KB)
    This pack contains:
Five versions of the 80's living room set as a prop -- from completely emptied out, to fully dressed.  The living room and kitchen backdrops as props, set to three different suburban / residential images from the game.  The sets and backdrops are available in the same lighting schemes as are in the game.
Several trees, hedges, and bushes that are unique to this set.  Furniture, appliances, the fireplace, the staircase, doors, lamps, electronic equipment, rugs, ornaments.  About 130 different props, each available in standard and darkened lighting.

    2)  Customizable Backdrops as Props

    Download the Customizable Backdrops Here
    (ZIP file, 117 KB)
This pack contains 5 customizable backdrops of each type:  the larger "surround" backdrop outside the living room window, and the smaller backdrop outside the kitchen window.  Each is available in standard and darkened lighting.
When creating images for these backdrops...  The larger "surround" backdrop uses the full 1024x256 (or larger) of the image, but the horizontal direction is flipped.  The smaller kitchen backdrop uses only the middle 512x256 worth of the image.

    3)  Customizable Picture Frames and Photos

Download the Customizable Picture Frames and Photos here.
    (ZIP file, 180 KB)
This pack contains 11 customizable photos, and 22 customizable picture frames.  All are intended to be "wall-mounted", though you could use Blender to rotate them for putting on the floor.
The image to change is "pics11to32photos01to11.dds".  Open it in your favourite image editor to see where each picture and photo is located on the image.  I included the dimensions of each picture / photo in the image.

Special Note:  With this many props, I was bound to make a mistake or two...  It all looked ok when I tested things in the game, but it was an awful lot to keep track of.  If you notice anything out of place, please let me know so I can fix it!

    Re: Riley's Modding Updates

I mentioned that the casting office would be the next facility to be deconstructed...  There aren't a lot of individual props in there...  Really just the building itself and a few nick-nacks: a chair, a door, a few street signs, the flag pole. It won't take long at all to do the deconstruction.  Below is the full facility as a prop.

What I really needed for an upcoming film, though, was to get inside...  The game doesn't give us what the interior looks like, so I took the liberty of constructing it myself.  Here's a little tour...

    Approaching the entrance...

A G o o d [Good] look inside...  There's more I want to add:  some pictures on the walls, a door at the far end into a "star's lounge" area, a couple of chairs, etc.

A bird's eye view of the complete prop, complete with built-in backdrops.

The walls and backdrops were created from scratch with the C++ program library I've been working on.  All the other pieces were stitched together from content that came with the game; once again using the same program library.

Derobrash has been working plenty on Med, as everyone is aware by now I'm sure.  In the process, he's opening it up for plug-ins to be created by other programmers.  I'll be collaborating with him (and Gleem, Reacher, et. al.) on how to get the functionality I've built up integrated directly into Med.

Bah... cut it out. Stick out tongue [:P]  Ken's already got me pegged as Krang (the E v i l [Evil] brain from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). Zip it! [:#]

What sort of E v i l [Evil] nefarious plans do I have?  Just a little command-line utility that will let people create auto-animated props quickly...  I recently stitched together a whole bunch of these "the hard way", and finally decided I needed an "easy way".  Give it the costume, head, and hair to use, it does the rest.  The above image is just from my testing...  it's not for a movie!  I swear!  (Although the prospect of severed heads in a movie does give me a few ideas... Dead [:notalive:] )
