I cant believe that a tv channel actually airs *** like this ? Jesus christ kids can download males with fish up their ass on the internet and they think a little bit of alien boobs and ass will hurt their kids ? Jesus the day games will be treated as any other form of media wont be before hell has frozen over, it's just hard as a gamer to take that crazy women serious, only old people and parents who dont even bother getting into what their kids actually do in front of their computers or on their pc's will believe that crap. Just the way the crazy women laughs at the other guy when he asks her if she played mass effect shows that she thinks games are for kids and not something any grown up people should waste their time one, even my dad plays game from time to time i think the last game he finnished was fahrenheit and he really didnt care for the nudity... It was done in a tastefull ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) way and really is nothing compared to hardcore porn you can find on tv - being interviewed about a game you never even played is just pathetic but ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) god that is the world we live in today. Person 1 : What do you think of I am Legend ? Person 2 : It sucked hard ass, it was too violent and the story sucked. Person 1 : Where did you watch the movie ? Person 2 : I didnt.

I find it funny how a major news network doesn't even do any research about their story before they put it on the air.
"Full digital nudity" Incorrect, there is partial nudity. You can see just as much nudity by scrolling the channels on cable TV during the evening.
"And the person who's playing the game gets to decide exactly whats going to happen between the two people if you know what I mean." Again, not true. Sex is a cutscene, you have no control over what happens. You also don't get to watch the characters have sex, you just see the before and after.
"They don't show women with any values other than their sexuality." Thats odd, my female character just finished saving the universe using her wits, combat skills and knowledge. Sounds like a random 'women are sex objects' rant that has been used in the media thousands of times before. Men can also have sex in the game.....gasp .
"And its a man in the game deciding how many women he wants to be with" Uh, wrong again. You can be a woman and choose a partner (male or a unisex alien) or a man and choose a partner (woman or unisex alien). You can only have one partner because the game makes you choose one if you try to have more than one.
"When you click on the trailers it asks you your age. And boom your in" Most game and movie trailers with any sort of violence ask your age, it doesn't mean much.
"Luke Skywalker meets Debbie does Dallas, and I'm definately not going to let Mass Effect in my house." There is no porn in the game, its like calling I am Legend a porno because you get to see Will Smith's chest as he works out.
"I'm not sure why it didn't get an adult only rating." Probably because it has no nudity.
"It's like watching a full feature film really" Except all the bad parts are taken out and it's only a minute long.
Absolutely no facts went into this discussion, someone said 'hey this game lets you have sex' and everyone got onto their high horses and reacted to that. Just as a comparison, Titanic showed you full frontal nudity and it was PG-13. Mass Effect is rated 17+ and has no full nudity, where is the justice in that?
I agree with you maggot, this is some of the worst journalism I have seen in a long time.

The "best" part of it all for me was just before the commercial break when one of the idiots said that you just have to follow what your kids are doing more closely and the host agreed and said it's just so much work. I was laughing my ass off and cursing at the same time. *Sigh*

What actually baffles me, is that these parents get all het up about the fact that their kids are playing these "adult themed" video games, and yet who the hell buys them for the kids?! lol Mass Effect is rated as a 12 in the UK, which I guess is what M stands for in the states, at the end of the day, a flash of an ass and the side of a tit is hardly horrifying graphic sex ... I mean they show mens arses on PG rated movies, and I am sure they show the side of breasts and womens asses as well ... At any rate a PG rated movie is one that any child of any age can sit and watch so long as their parents approve, unlike a U movie which is something you can buy and leave the kids to watch, if you buy a young child ( in this case an under 12) a computer game rated over 12, then more fool you if you get upset at the content, it is the same as the parents that buy their children GTA for their 13th birthday present and then notice that the game rated 18 is actually rather violent and perhaps they shouldn't have brought it in the first place. That said it is the same as with movies, it's parental discression, why don't they understand that computer games are just media like music and movies, they are rated that way for a reason, I mean they've come a long way since space invaders and the ratings should be listened to. I'm not saying that under 18's shouldn't play GTA and such, but I think more brain cells should be engaged when it comes to buying children games. I wouldn't buy my child GTA if they were under 10 in the same way I wouldn't let them watch Hostel or Saw at that age, heck up until about 15/16 I don't think it would be right for them to play an 18 game on their own, in the same way I wouldn't let them watch an 18 movie on their own. After that it's more up to them, they can't buy anything at that age that I don't think is appropriate, but if you say "no you can't play that" then they are going to do it anyway at that age, so let them live and learn ... back to the immediate subject of nudity in games, it was part of the game, it was part of the story, it wasn't something that should have raised an eyebrow, I mean if it was just gratuitous (like the GTA: SA hot coffee mod was supposed to be) then I could understand, but it is a relevant part of the plot... Heck I am suprised the right wing muppets (and anyone that wants to censor such things must be right wint) didn't complain about the fact you can have gay/lesbian scenes in the game (I know this because it was a lesbian one when I played it through the first time) ... /rantish thing... common sense is lost on some people, the ratings people are there for a reason they will rate as they see appropriate as a guideline for what they think a game should be. Although they have a penchant for being OTT sometimes, like the Manhhunt 2 ban in the UK ... but at least they give parents an idea of what a game is going to be like before they pick up the box.

I'm actually amazed this game hasn't been banned in Australia (well, if it has I haven't heard about it). The ratings board here refuses to bring in an R rating for videogames, despite there being one for other media forms, and they tend to listen to hysterical hype such as this. Therefore, anything which doesn't fit into a MA (15+) rating or below gets banned. GTA SA was banned (after it'd already been released... Hot coffee) and I believe the publishers were told to go and remove the offending material if they wanted their game to be made available on store shelves. OK, so I think the Aussie ratings board is moronic. Back to the point...
What I find funny throughout all this is the people complaining about the material are bringing attention to it, most likely boosting sales of the game and definately increasing the number of people, of all ages, watching the supposed (not like it shows much anyway) 'sex scene' clip on sites such as YouTube.
It's unfortunate that common sense is not such a common thing anymore... ![Disappointed [:isappoin]](/emoticons/disappointed.gif)
Also, Munchie, I think the reason (moronic ) people make such a big deal out of something being in a videogame which they wouldn't blink an eye at in a movie is the whole... Hmm... In a movie, you're a spectator, you have no control, in a videogame, you control your PC, decide what he/she/it does, and therefore control any sexual acts. Of course, most scenes involving that sort of thing are cut-scenes, where you have little to no control over your character...
Random question: didn't God of War (I think it was that...) have a sex mini-game? I guess none of these psycho's would have gotten that far in the game. ![Stick out tongue [:P]](/emoticons/emotion-4.gif)

The unfortunate reality that we live in is that most news networks are owned and/or operated by EXTREME conservitive people and ideals. I was shown this article by my own mother. When I showed the scene(Male and Alien) to my mother, who is well into her mid fourties and in no way radical, she laughed and said she "could have found more pornagraphic scenes on FOX." Not to mention, some TV series make women seem like sexual objects. In mass effect, you had to put real work, and in the game, real emotion, to get the other character to make love to you, and the proccess EMPHASIZED caring about the other character. The game connected sex with passion. You were developing a relationship. You werent picking up some whore at the Citadel for 50 bucks, but how many times you see that on TV. Yes it happens in games, look at GTA. But thats not what this is about, this is not about sex being in games, its about the displayment of the sex scene. According to FOX, Mass Effect made sex a emotionless, thoughtless action, but in reality it was quite the opposite. When you played through the game you had to put thought into what you said and did to the characters, and thus emotion developed. In conclusion, FOX needs to get its head out of its conservative ass. It really pisses me off. Political journalism, dont let the facts get in your way.
Video games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.

Well, just to think, one day, they will invent a big room that is actually filled with A.I on the outside of a certain wall of some sort lets just say. You start it up, and then a hollographic yet touchable menu pops up, you can pretty much go on from there, if you've seen Futurama, some scientists are already taking that idea into consideration. I mean, look at the new brain helmet they invented this year, its not even out yet, but you attatch it to your head, and it reads your brain waves and transmits them into the game copying every command that you throw to it.
We are growing even closer to technology as we speak.

This is just another reason that I get my news on the internet. These 'journalists' should be ashamed of themselves. What happened to the days of responsible journalism? You know, where you actually have to do research and come to an informed conclusion? How can you possibly make any kind of comment about a game you never played? I don't understand how they don't realize how incredibly stupid they look. It is for this reason that Fox news is such a joke. If they really cared about their kids, then they would be making sure that they weren't playing the game. "It's just so hard..." What kind of nonsense is that? If it's too hard, don't have kids. No one has ever said having kids is easy. It's part of your job as a parent to pay attention to your kids. It's not violence in video games that is making our kids crazy, it's violence in the home. It's lack of discipline and neglect on parent's parts. If you can't find the time to check on your children, then you shouldn't be allowed to have them. I have a 16 y.o. sister that still lives at home (I'm 27) and I got her into gaming when she was really young. And my parents made sure to find out about the games I was playing before I let her at them. I'll be the first to admit, some things I was playing that were fine for my age then, were not okay for her. They also keep their computer in the dining room, in their site and have made an agreement that if she wants to be online or chat, that they have the right to look over her shoulder and see what she is doing and writing. They oftentimes make her scroll up in her chat box and read everything that is written. She is also not allowed to use chatspeak, except with well known terms like LOL and such. That, my friends, is what responsible parenting is about. Perhaps these undercover sluts should have thought about all it takes to care for a kid before they opened their legs. Or maybe they're just pissed that characters in video games are getting more action than they are.

yeah, that's my point. Online, I have the option of where I decide to find my news. Ordinarily, if I find something that I need to know about, I will visit a few sites and find out what they all have to say. At least online, I have the choice of being snowed, if that's what I choose, instead of being fored to listen to a bunch of neo-con nonsense. With most forms of the media being monopolized under a right wing nutjob, there's very little chance of getting real, researched news that isn't being used to perpetuated the agends of some frigid, old, rich man

But if that's true, then online news become just as unreliable.
Truth is nobody forces you to listen to anything, and while it's not to instantly jump on anything you hear on TV or read anywhere in the media, buying to much into conspiracy theories isn't helping.
However, it's an open secret that the Fox channel is useful for little more than entertainment, and you gotta admit, this thread proves that they deliver. ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
