    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

Nice find! I wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't posted it. Feburary 18th can't come soon enough!

I suspect the three big features are...

    1) Voice commands for the dog and some NPC interactions.

    2) Some form of online multiplay. I'm guessing mini-games or item trading/buying.

    3) Seeing as it plans to spring the RPG genre forward, I would say the way cities can develope or never exist will be one of the features he lists in the big 3.

I can't really think of any other big features that could be in the 3 that haven't been done before in an RPG. Unconditional love is covered by the dog. The cinematic combat isn't new. Contextual combat could be it if they went to extreme lengths to implement it, but I doubt thats it.

Those three are the only new additions I could see to the RPG genre. We shall see though.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

So what big 3 are these? The same three that they were going to do from the beginning or some new ones? Or is this like a recap... putting things into perspective, making connections between things. Tongue Tied [:S]

Wasnt there originally 7 big features for Fable 2? And that was cut down to 5? I want to say it was in the Mike West interview, but I can't remember. Tongue Tied [:S]

EDIT: bugger, I was supposed to quote Baystone, but clearly pressed the wrong button...Dead [:notalive:]

Ehh... I don't think so. Tongue Tied [:S] All I can remember is this "we got three big ones"... emotions, combat, and the 3rd. But I do remember West saying that they did cut something big.

Just to add... we're probably going to see dog combat at GDC if Dene's words are any indication.

yea, they will talk about all 3 features (the first two are already known) and use the game to prove that they can do, and are doing, it.

What exactly are the first 2 features? The Dog and Combat?  The only thing that I am confused about is that they discussed combat way back in august of 06' with contextual and if I am not mistaken, one button.  so when exactly we learn 2 of the 3 big features, bacuse I though as of christmas of 06, we didnt know any of them

Whether you think you can or can't, you're right either way.

Emotions (or perhaps love) and combat are the first 2. They've mainly talked about these features in theoretical level, so GDC is probably the place when that'll change.

my guess is an Arena on xbox live where your heros can battle, maybe in conjuction with some breakthrough use of xbox live/online coop

I think instead of just moving RPGs forward, just move console RPGs forward. Please, Im begging game developers, make this hardware WORTH THE MONEY! I bought a game system that has a friggin Nvidia card just to play &%$# ing sports games and simplistic Japanese RPGs?!

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

Well, if I remember correctly didn't P.M. say that he was very excited about the third feature and that it was his favorite. Then I remember him saying in the live text that online was his favorite feature. Maybe it does have something to do with online.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

I will be very disappointed if Lionhead wastes their time on online Arenas.

Every person playing the game will eventually have the best hero gear. The abilities will not be skill based since the game is primarily a single player RPG and NOT a MMORPG with PvP aspects.

Thus, online arena would consist of two players with equal gear, single player oriented abilities (not balanced or meant for PvP), and tapping a single button repeatedly (Single button combat = Fable 2 combat) until one persons health reaches 0. Sounds exciting! Down []

Honestly, I'd rather bet items or in game currency on chess games, checkers, or some other mini game they incorporate into the game.

As far as person vs person goes in the Fable 2 game world, an archery contest or foot race could be decent fun.

Even full blown Co-op is going to be a monumentous undertaking. I'm still skepticle of what the online component will be. I want the single player game to be perfect and receive most of the attention.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

So, I just thought of something, although it's just a random thought and it 99.9% wouldn't be this, but we don't truly know. What if Fable 2 is actually going to be an "ARPGMMO". I only had thought this because P.M. had mentioned that the thrid big feature was his favorite, and then he has mentioned that the online component is his favorite feature. Again it's only a thought. I know MMO's aren't anything  new or innovative. It just kind of struck me as something worth mentioning.

That's really nothing unusual.  Most games have huge chunks cut out as development continues.  The important thing is not what's cut, but what's left.  Wink [;)]

    GDC

What are you guys hoping to see at GDC 2008? It has been said in the 2nd latest blog that the third great feature will be revealed but what else do you think?

and part 2 of this post

How many times have you watched the GDC 2007 video? its like 30 minutes long, the one with the dog you know. Ive watched it literally over 150 times. Is that weird?

    Re: GDC

I'm mostly really looking forward to the supposed gameplay of the three "secrets". I can't wait to find out what the last one is and how it's implemented in the game, and how all three will intertwine. As a side note, no it's not that weird that you've watched the GDC '07 video a lot. It's pretty much the only thing we have right now anyway.

    But that's just me.
