I wonder why there arn't any vids...because the co-op play vids came out the same day as the presentation right?

As for the release date I would think that it's really close Thanksgiving or Halloween. Christmas is too late, because then the leaves would have fallen off the trees.

    • There's 70 augmentable clothes.
    • There are 20 different tattoos and haircuts.
    • There are 8 different spell types allowing for 80 different spells in total.
    • There are more than 150 unique quests.
    • More than half a dozen mini-games.
    • Over 160,000 recorded lines of AI dialogue.

Can I ask where the second half of your points are taken from? Im guessing there is some sort of write-up of Fridays presentation that I havnt seen, but where?

Also, what on earth is a breadcrumb system? Are we talking Hansel & Grettel style?

Lets not forget that people started to find out about Fable 2 like 3 years ago.Bored [:bored:]

Fable 2 (and this forum) was announced in May of '06, making it about a year and a half ago.  Fable: TLC wasn't even released yet three years ago.  Stick out tongue [:P]

Yeah, but before the 360 launched, there was a "rumor" that there would be a Halo 3, banjoo kazooie (or what ever Stick out tongue [:P])and Fable 2. I read it on gamespot back then. Fable 2 was the biggest reason for me to buy a 360 Stick out tongue [:P]

I think I read somewhere that the release date is November. There's some new videos on Gametrailers now but I can't check them out yet. They should be the GDC ones.
Sweetest moment in the game? My dog came back from the dead to help me open the Rookridge Demon Door. I fed him a snack and he followed me to see what the treasure was. When I left, he disappeared, having helped his master out one final time.

    Not really.

I suppose if some of you want to be angry you will be, if only out of principal.

Frankly I thought they announced some pretty interesting things:

    • Co-op is now going to be included in Fable 2 allowing a second player to jump in or out of the game at any time, without the visual annoyance of split screen.
    • These guest players can take with them any gold and experience they acquire in their friend's game world.
    • Guest players can kill the host players family if they so desire.
    • The host can decide how much of a split the guest recieves in gold and experience.
    • You can turn off the "safety" in your world allowing your guest to attack things in your world.
    • It's possible to attack your dog in the game.
    • Peter was able to accidentally kill his guest in the last demo which suggests PvP combat.
    • A gambling mini-game in the Fable 2 universe can be played in advance via XBL.
    • Money acquired in this mini-game can then be imported for use in Fable 2.
    • You'll get more experience for a G o o d [Good] "style" of fighting and less experience for "button mashing".
    • Instead of picking up gold from dead enemies you'll have to rely on getting gold through gambling (as previously mentioned) or acquiring different jobs in the game world.
    • Confirmed jobs are blacksmith, assassin, and henchmen.
    • Fable 2 screenshots have been released.
    • We've seen, for the first time, Fable 2 hobbes in the actual game world.
    • Shops in villages will offer you free items if you've happened to save that village from an E v i l [Evil] of some kind.
    • When you marry somebody you become a part of that community.
    • You can have a dowry during marriage.
    • You can have a father-in-law due to marriage.
    • Six hours into the game you will have to sacrifice something precious.  As Molyneux states, "You will put down the controller and ask, what am I going to do?"

Peter Molyneux killed his friend lol. Some intersting points there though, it's not as bad has i thought. Has anyone got any videos?

True enough. But people didn't really start talking about the game at great length until it was announced.  Suffice to say, nobody got really hyped for anything until it was announced.  Everything prior was too shrouded in rumour I suppose.

But either way, I don't disagree with your claims.  No matter how long we've been waiting, it is indeed difficult to wait more.

That is not trueand senior members of the broad should especaillyy not be surprised by the info that new acutually

All the things I mentioned (except for maybe a few of the number statistics; not sure about those) were mentioned for the first time at GDC.  We had suspected a few things, such as some kind of multiplayer/online feature, and what was announced was co-op.  Sure we had many guesses and many of us hit the mark pretty well, but that still doesn't count as official announcement.  GDC did, in fact, release a lot of interesting information.  I mean...we had an entire developer video walkthrough.  Why everybody wants to downplay all the cool stuff we've seen is beyond me.  *shrug*

Most of the second half was taken from this article.  There was a second article that I found as well which basically repeated the same information.  More or less most of the list was just a culmination of a few GDC videos, interviews, and articles.

People aren't meant to record things at GDC sessions since the organisers record evreything themselves and sell the conference proceedings.  Remember it's still a developer's conference, it's not a trade show.

I think the keynotes are exceptions, it's why any videos you see from other sessions are generally rubbish.

    Mortalitis_Infinitas:

All the things I mentioned (except for maybe a few of the number statistics; not sure about those) were mentioned for the first time at GDC.

To be fair, we knew about a lot of the things you listed before GDC this year.

  • Co-op is now going to be included in Fable 2 allowing a second player to jump in or out of the game at any time, without the visual annoyance of split screen.

While we didn't know the exact details of the co-op, last year at E3 Peter said he couldn't talk about the third feature but he loves co-op and multiplayer.  Then again we still don't know much about co-op, there are still a lot of things that didn't get revealed about it.

  • You'll get more experience for a G o o d [Good] "style" of fighting and less experience for "button mashing".

We knew about that at E3 last year.

  • Instead of picking up gold from dead enemies you'll have to rely on getting gold through gambling (as previously mentioned) or acquiring different jobs in the game world.

We knew long ago that gold would be earned from jobs and bar games seemed likely to return.  We didn't know that questing didn't give gold but we did know that you would need to work or gamble if you didn't want to be poor, so I guess in a way we kind of assumed this.

  • Confirmed jobs are blacksmith, assassin, and henchmen.

Other jobs were listed before too (barman, farmer, and prospector were said at X06).  We still don't know how they work nor have we had any in-depth details about the jobs.

  • Instead of mini-maps there's a new breadcrumb system.

At GDC last year Peter said there would be no mini-map, the breadcrumb system in new but somewhat expected.

  • Albion is 10 times larger this time around.

I think it was at GDC last year where he said this too, it might have been E3 but he has said it before.

  • Each tree in Fable 2 has roughly 120,000 leaves each.

I think this was mentioned in a milestone a long time ago but I can't seem to find it at the moment.  They also talked about how each leaf was individually animated, if that rings a bell.Tongue Tied [:S]

The keynote was G o o d [Good], but since this is a fairly major event you would have thought that there would have been more new details.

Like I said, I wasn't sure about some of the numerical stats.  As you can see, my assumption that a few of them we've heard before had been mentioned previously was indeed correct.

But you can take all your bold items out of that list for all I care and the list still supports my previous point.  It's still impressive and we still heard new information.

Like I said, a lot of things we've had hinted examples of, or have simply just made accurate guesses about as a community.  But where as before they were more or less guesses we've now seen documented video showing some of these features.

Frankly if you guys want to downplay GDC go right ahead.  Some of you are just determined to be upset just because you feel the need to be convicted about something.  The fact is there was new information at GDC and we did have a really intriguing developer video walkthrough as well as a G o o d [Good] handful of articles to boot.

Why some of you expect Peter to have shown up with an itemized list of everything that's going to be in Fable 2 is beyond me, but as we all know there are things that Peter can and cannot reveal due, mainly, to the publisher (and the PR department in general I might imagine).  This is the way it works in game development.  This is the way it's always worked.  This is the way it will continue to work.  Frankly Peter went into GDC promising one thing: to reveal the third feature.  As far as I know, that's what he did.  And not only did he reveal it, we saw a 15 minute video demoing the entire thing.

Oh well.  If you give a mouse a cookie... Rolleyes []

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

I am actually very surprised at what they have accomplished this time around. The things they have announced since May of 2006 is astonishing.

One of Fable's strongest presentations to an immersive world was freedom of choice. This time around, with the second chapter nearing release, having a child, marrying a wife, having a dog, living and/or purchasing your own property anywhere at any time, jobs, etc is simply amazing. The humor and work involved into the little things is what could make such a big accomplishment.

Sometimes there are the few (or lot, rather) than have an unsatisfactory feeling about what is being presented to them. Fable 2 is seeming to grab a lot of attention from the general public. Because of that, many RPG players are introduced in the Fable 2 scene, both new and old. I can understand why others are not satisfied with what is presented, and it makes me wonder if they actually played the first Fable and/or if they have been spoiled by so many other RPGs that this is no surprise to them, which would give them a rather unsatisfactory feeling of what they would consider an old and recycled feature.

Most (if not all) of what Peter wanted in the first Fable is coming to life, and is being born. I am amazed at what they have shown to actually occur years later in the second chapter.
