The breadcrumb system seems to be universally hated. Aparently PM himself said "You are goning to hate this" before revealing it. Why would Lionhead implement a feature that they know people wont like? Hopefully this feature is very WIP.

    PM in that there video:

"His looks are based on what his character looks like"

Thank christ for that. I was worried it was going to be identikit henchmen buddies as it's always been a bit ambiguous. Nice to have it spelled out.

Thats been said in other videos. IMO there is alot more interesting information to pull from that video but at least it confirmed something for you.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

Yeah, I wrote it while watching, it was one of the first things he said. I know it's been said before, but it's always been slightly ambiguous with words like 'based on' being thrown about far too suspiciously. Did that mean level, experience, clothes? Just that slight word change with the 'neutral man' option was enough for me to doubt the obvious.

Anyway, most interesting bit for me was an answer to one of ruM's complaints last week, that in the game the child would be there to see his father die but it was just too harrowing to show. Very G o o d [Good] news indeed. I am getting increasingly worried about the pregnancy feature though, if the news media wants to have a pop at your game they will regardless of it's actual content, so I hope they don't fall victim to self censorship out of fear.

It seems games are a soft target at the moment, publishers really need to start throwing their weight around when it comes to a negative portrayal in the media. I can't think of another industry that takes as much crap lying down.

Yeah, I can't wait to see what it will actually be like in game. It might actually make me feel bad Surprise [:O]

I agree. Unless games push the envelope they will always be seen as children's toys. I am an adult and I want my interactive experiences to mature as I do.

I am surprised there isn't more discussion involving the video. This thread may be starting to drop off of peoples radar. With the flood of new useless topics genuine news seems to often be overlooked.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

look at what happened to mass effect.. it showed 2 seconds of a sex scene and got harrased by alot of people... They ignored how G o o d [Good] the game was and just went straight for that scene.
I dont see this happening with fable though... I dont see wth is wrong with pregnancy personally.. Its something all women go through, and they still stay active and during it.. Or at least most do. Its a healthy thing to do.. Its not like taking damage will effect the baby or anything.. Its not THAT realistic.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

Mass effect is only a big thing in the gaming community though. Ask any non gamer what ME is and they will have no idea. I really hope PM keeps it in. He always mentions how Fable is the first game to let you be pregnant it would be a shame not to see it.

Also according to the vid posted by midnyht (Thanks for the link btw Up []) we will not be able to have a relationship with our co op partner. This really saddens me hopefully PM/Lionhead will see how badly this feature is wanted and implement it.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

It is strange that games are held to a different standard then movies or TV here in America.  25years ago it made sense because only kids played video games. But now that simply is not true, and games, movies and TV has equal ranches of viewers. There is no reason games should not have as much gore, valance and nudity as Sopranos or any cable TV show.  They not broadcasted over the public airways and they are animated.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

That was a great video, answered some questions lurking around...

I'm glad that the child will actually see that his father died and maybe resent his mother from then on...It's not like I'm hoping to see any children witness death, but to make it a bigger impact, I feel it was definitely needed and I'm glad to see they implemented it...

The morphs thing was weird, I'm really not a fan of the whole Horns/Halos thing...So hopefully extreme unavoidable morphs are not implemented...I don't care if my character looks like the Hulk or looks like Gandolf when he's got an "extreme morph" associated to him...

But the Horns/Halos thing, that's different...If I play as a Melee Warrior, by all means, make me The Hulk...If I play as a Will User, I'll gladly look like Gandolf...But if I play as a somewhat E v i l [Evil] character, like he said, the walk alone could demonstrate that...That's about as extreme as I'd like to see those morphs go...

One thing I'm pissed about again, is the fact that he talked about the 70% G o o d [Good] issue...I won't go into a rant again, but seriously, what do you expect from us?? You basically dump barrels and barrels of G o o d [Good] Points onto us and expect us to be E v i l [Evil] somehow??

I'm sorry that I don't go around killing every Trader and NPC and Guard...Aside from doing the horrible 'steal animation' there was nothing you could really do to be E v i l [Evil]...

You had to go out of your way, and even then, it's so stupid because all you're doing is slaughtering innoncent people...That's not the only thing associated with E v i l [Evil]...If I kill a Bandit that's sole purpose is to kill me, how is that a G o o d [Good] Deed??

I brought this up before, the same rules apply to fat/skinny...To be fat, you had to totally go out of your way and constantly eat because you would get skinny so fast just by time elapsing...

So I don't hear Lionhead bringing up those statistics like, "99.999% of Heroes were skinny..." Obviously we were, it was really hard not to be...If everything you did in the world was basically giving you G o o d [Good] Points, it's almost a nuisance to be E v i l [Evil], since you have to play differently to get that...

I mean, smashing barrels will just not cut it...Breaking windows will not cut it...You had to slaughter innoncent people in order to be E v i l [Evil] and if that's the only thing Lionhead feels should make you E v i l [Evil], then the mechanic is already terrible...

Overall, I liked the interview, Peter was funny and entertaining as always, I just wish he talked more about the dog Sad [:(]

The thing that gets me about that video is about nine minutes in, someone asks Peter a question about "full voice chat on co-op" and Peter responds with something along the lines of, "all the things you would expect from co-op were there". Why would you need voice chat if it's just couch co-op and your buddy is sitting right next to you? Unless of course, he was talking about voice chat with friends who are playing other games or are watching a movie, ect.

maybe you're right, maybe he was "hinting" at online co-op because with the remark "all the things you would expect from co-op are there" why would he be talking about talking to friends who are playing other games? we all know that already so quite possibly he "accidentally" leaked info on online co-opLick [:lick:]

Great video midnyht.  One thing I noticed was the flashing lookout trigger wasn't in this version, it looked much nicer without it.

Edit: Also nice video Porta Up []

On the co-op feature, PM said in that video "you've seen 50% of co-op and thats couch co-op" so the other 50% of co-op HAS to be online...

I agree scmredrum. Hopefully they distubute moraltly points much better this time.

So the new death mechanic is not being able to collect exp orbs. I wonder how we get scars now? Why isn't there more duscussion of this? lol

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

Come to think of it would the old death mechanic really work anyway? I mean you get knocked on your bum and the bandits or whomever you were fighting start kicking and beating on you for gold right? So if you pay your gold/experience/renown what happens then? Do the enemies just let you back up and let you continue fighting them? And what happens to the dog? Something's missing here.

    Re: Fable 2 @ GDC 2008

There was alot of problems with the old death mechanic as pointed out by many forum members and the fact that it had to be changed. Hopefully the new system will not have all those problems.

One of the things in the video I found really interesting was how PM shot one of the Hobbes during a cut scene. This is a feature that the makers of Too human have been touting. It could really add alot to the story telling by being able to react in real time to the things happening during a "cutscene".

I really love how much the game seems to be so simulation based. The environment, the cities, the economy, your avatar, NPC reactions/dialogue, and even the story change based on the actions by the player. This is what is really going to make Fable so unique and should result in alots of "emergent gameplay" stories.

Also it is sooo obvious the Peter is a breast man Stick out tongue [:P] Also I have heard that he actually called a meeting to discuss the size of the female character's butt. According to Peter it was too big lol

Awwww...... I loved the idea of scardeath.... Takes away XP which you can easily re-earn or you get a nasty scar which effects the world. Instead of the HORRIBLY tedious system of going back and doing everything over again (I hate that). I heard that you got up in a really cool way, just mentioning.

I hope your female characters can have a big butt in fable 2, another hypermatter morph, lol, I guess Peter doesnt like a phattyWink [;)]

Anywho, I thought the death mechanic b4 was pretty G o o d [Good], but I am sort of happy that they changed it to a mini game instead of having to sacrifice exp/renown/gold, or perhaps, another way to make it 'harder' to be a G o o d [Good] hero would be for the game to make you pay sacrifice something when you die(G o o d [Good]) or just play a mini game(E v i l [Evil]) based on your alignment,

Whether you think you can or can't, you're right either way.
