Yes, that would be more realistic.  So, hopefully they will give you the choice to use the bread crumb trail or not, but I have my doubts.  Indifferent [:|]

But conveniantly, like LB or something.  Don't make it so you have to search through a menu to turn it off while you dice up some Hobbes, then back on afterwards.

Or, even better, you must hold the button to have it active.

That's not that bad of an idea, have it be one of the back buttons like RT or something.  Up []

    Re: Breadcrumb feature

They could have it as a system like Oblivion i.e you open your journal/diary or wherever you write your quests down, select it then a path will appear that corresponds to that quest.

That way if you want to just wander about you can, if you want to wander about most the time but follow a trail at others you can, or you can just follow the trails all the time!

I've added a poll to the topic, for a month. Smily [:)]

    Cast your votes!

Hm, the poll didn't quite have what I needed, but I answered "I like it", just because I like the idea of it, but really, I'd like to see the feature rather than just to imagine it. Hmm [^o)]

Oooh, a poll! They've been a bit rare in these parts for a while! Stick out tongue [:P]

Anyhoo, I voted 'I Don't Like It'. But as I saw it when beta testing surely my vote is worth double? Stick out tongue [:P]

    Re: Breadcrumb feature

Heh. So, assuming from that, it's not going to be that great. Smily [:)]

Personally, I'd much rather take a shenmue-y based approach where you just gotta ask for directions, but the problem with that is choice. Without talking or dialogue menus, it might be a bit tricky.

Another decent way to do it is a journal fused with a map which was used in Tales of Symphonia, which came especially handy when you hadn't played the game for a while. You just looked at the journal and knew exactly what you had done last and what you have to do next. The problem with that is that it takes you away from the game world, which I think is one of they key points of this breadcrumb thing.

As an idea, BC is brilliant (pun intended). But it might get a bit intrusive, and adding perhaps an option for it is IMO a cheap way out, so maybe reading the player's skills might help here... aka. make an event out of it and don't show it until you have to? Tongue Tied [:S]

i would have liked it if you would have had the option "I need more information of the BC feature."

LH will figure something out. And they'll do it right... right?
    right???

Yeah thats sounds a lot cooler, just to have a well sign posted world with maybe a few maps on the sign posts and a red dot thats labelled "you are here"

I'm sure Fable 2 would be amazing even with the stupid fairy dust thing there all the time looking cheesy. However I voted for the option where you can turn it off because sometimes its lots of little details that make a G o o d [Good] game rather then 1 big one.

    Re: Breadcrumb feature

I also voted for I like it, as long as I can turn it off because I think that would be the easiest and best solution.  If your having trouble finding your way just leave it on, if you don't like it turn it off.  Works for everyone.

    Re: Breadcrumb feature

We have to remember that Fable2 is being designed so that your granny can play it - and not be made to feel dumb.

Listening to PM it seems the aim is to get lots of people playing that have never played before, and with that in mind; the breadcrumb feature will help alot.

I hope you can turn it off though.

    Re: Breadcrumb feature

I am rather interested in seeing this feature, if it is still in the final game. It would be nice if you could indeed turn it off if it was becoming more of a distraction to you.

I would probably leave it on, because my 58 y/o mother actually wants to play Fable 2. She has only played Bejeweled on the PC and BrickBreaker on my BlackBerry so she isn't really a "hardcore" gamer, but she was really into Fable 1 and was really excited when I told her that Fable 2 was in development. Of course, I will probably have to co-op with her at first, until she gets the hang of it. Devious [:evious:]

    Portarock:
Is that balanced though? What if only will users got GPS would you still think the same way?

Why would Will Users get GPS and not Ranged Heroes?? I don't fully understand what you're asking, but I'll take a shot...If I'm wrong, disregard the post...

Lionhead has implemented the dog feature to help the player, take care of situations that may arise, rid the screen of HUDs and also help with an emotional mechanic...

That being said, the popcorn trail (I love that Brady Bunch episode) IS NOT a replacement of the dog...

So if you decline to venture with your dog, you still have to find your way while exploring, so in a way, either one or the other is going to make the player find his own way to some places...

Now, on top of that, here's a problem that could occur if certain things fall into place...Since the poll has the option to toggle the popcorn trail, you also have the option to toggle the dog technically, is there a 3rd Fail Safe feature or are players who dislike the dog and the popcorn trail, completely sh*t out of luck??

There are alot of people who don't like the dog, and there are even more people who dislike this popcorn trail, so chances are, alot of those people won't like to use either one...Again, what are those players going to do??

So what would you do without the dog?? How would you ever notice those keys without a dog barking at them?? Looks like you're completely lost without the dogs help, OH WHAT SHALL WE DO??

I don't know, maybe look for the stuff ourselves?? Maybe instead of running and looking straight ahead, you could try and notice things...

I'm sorry, would you like an 'Easy Button' from Staples sent to your door with a copy of Fable 2, so you can defeat Lucien before you even unwrap the game?? Huh? [:^)]

No, I just might as well find the stuff on the way to the quest instead of going all the way back and looking for it again when i have to toggle the dog to look for stuff just like in real life when i toggle my dog to take a *** then toggle it to run about and get some exercise and then i press a button and it automatically knows where i want to go and leads me to where ever in the entire world i want to go. Didn't you want realism?

and if you're giving away free easy buttons then i'll have one. Just send it with your magic dog who will automatically lead you all the way to my house.

Did I ask for realism?? Did I ever state that word in any post?? I don't remember me doing so, but apparently I did...Or could it be you've been sniffing the fairy dust on the road?? Tsk Tsk..

Also, I would love to send you a free Easy Button from Staples, it's just, I either have to do one or the other...I can't follow the glowing road to your house AND go to Staples which is off the beaten path AND pick up a key which is also off the beaten path, so there's no way for me to leave sitting on top of your lazy boy recliner Sad [:(]

It's gotta be one or the other bucko, dog can't do it all, REMEMBER?? Huh? [:^)]

lol, you called me bucko rofl. Sorry i'm just winding you up.

but firstly there is a staples on the way to my house so i'm still counting on you to bring it to me

secondly i want to finish everything in the game but i don't want to have to walk up the road to go to the quest then toggle the dog to look for stuff and come back down to look for stuff when i could have done it in one go. Its called convinience. I'm not gonna spend extra time walking around just to admire an imaginary landscape because that's gonna get old pretty quick for most people.

thirdly what's wrong with having a lazy boy recliner? they're nice and comfy to play fable in. Stick out tongue [:P]

Finally, peter molyneux said the dog is completely AI because he didn't want the player controling it because otherwise it wouldn't be like a real dog so you wouldn't care about it. Toggling the dog to do stuff is controlling it therefore its not gonna happen. Homerun, i win *does a dance* end of discussion. Smily [:)]

Sorry if i wound you up a bit but i like to argue my opinion and i'm stubborn and i'm a b*****d but now i cant be bothered anymore.
