7 Tips on How to create a superb movie!

Here are some tips I thought might help some people who have trouble making G o o d [Good] movies:

    1. Take your time on the movie. This is the number 1 key to success! If you announce the due date of the movie is tomorrow and your not finished, people would rather see a G o o d [Good] full movie later in the week then a bad one tomorrow.
    2. Use all of your resources carefully. For example, if you want to make someone have a sniper but the game only comes with WW2 rifles, then go to www.8eyedbaby.com and download some packs (make sure you credit the modder)
    3. Get some custom music! Dont use the music from the Movies Game! Go download some music from www.8eyedbaby.com! Make sure you include the artists name in your credits! Don't download music from freeplaymusic.com (Its copywritten)
    4. Cut your scenes. Don't let it drag for too long. Its better to have a scene thats short and sweet then a scene thats long and boring.
    5. Use Voice Overs. Alot of people would rather listen then read. They already do enough reading in school!
    6. Make a script. Don't just go into the movies game and start putting random stuff in. Go to Word and type up a G o o d [Good] script, telling you what camera angles to use and what the people will say in each scene.
    7. Create custom backdrops. Just open up Paint or photo shop and create a new blank document that is 1024 by 256 pixels. Then paint the backround and type the text, then go and save it under LIONHEADSTUDIOS/THEMOVIES/TEXTURES/BACKDROPS and name the file bd_mybackdrop.dds. These make your movie titles alot better then the ones the game comes with.

You now have an excellent movie! More tips will be on the way! I hope I helped some people on the forums!

Some nice tips there for new studios, G o o d [Good] work!

There are many more Fan sites to get stuff from - DC Modding Foundry, Skinshack etc...

Also, you may need to download a DDS converter to make the files the right type for custom backgrounds (and overlays too if you have Stunts and Effects).

I'm sure someone can help out with links (Can't do it myself right now as I'm at work...) if necessary!

Great tips, spot on. As I've seen quite a few new TMOers, this will certainly help them make an exciting and intruging movie, also even possibly hitting the top charts Classic [:classic:]!!

Re: 7 Tips on How to create a superb movie!

I was expecting to see complete rubbish when I opened the thread, but they're not actually bad tips, even though I do need to elaborate a little on a couple of them....

    ShyShy:
then go to www.8eyedbaby.com and download some packs (make sure you credit the modder)
Like I think Howie already mentioned, there are a LOT more fansites than just 8eyedbaby.... there's also www.skinshack.co.uk, www.dcmodding.com, housemods, fraas's site, themoviesvision.de, www.tiersix.com, and so many more others it's ridiculous Stick out tongue [:P]

    ShyShy:
Go download some music from www.8eyedbaby.com!
...or www.jamendo.com, and there are others there, too Wink [;)]

Plus if you get specific permission from whoever owns the copyright, you can use anything.

    ShyShy:
    Use Voice Overs.
... get voice actors. A casting thread should usually handle that.

    ShyShy:
They already do enough reading in school!
Not everyone on the forums goes to school... in fact, a lot of the better studios are adults, and better because they're more mature or cleverer than the teenagers. Obviously not all of them, but a lot of them. However; in most cases, VOs are better than subtitles.

    ShyShy:
    Go to Word
...or similar program, for those who don't have word.

    ShyShy:
    Create custom backdrops.
    Or overlays...

    ShyShy:
These make your movie titles alot better then the ones the game comes with.
Actually, overlays are better for titles because backdrops tend to lose some of their quality. AND, custom backdrops aren't necessarily better than default ones... it's like mods for the sake of mods. WHy make a crap version of something that's already there?

    ShyShy:
You now have an excellent movie!
Not necessarily. You now have a marginally better movie than Bunnys vs Santa 12. You need a G o o d [Good] script, G o o d [Good] VAs and professionalism in order for it to be G o o d [Good]. It can't just be G o o d [Good] because it's got custom stuff - that's like saying all studios who can be arsed to use mods deserve five stars, and all those who don't know fansites/see no need for mods don't.

But otherwise, not bad Stick out tongue [:P]

    Forums get edumacation? Surprise [:O]

I think I'm an adult, but I'm immature and like shiny things. Also, I can't read to save my life. Sad [:(]

I agree with the backdrop/overlay thing. Just having a random colour backdrop with a random font with it's own random colour isn't going to look better than the preset titles. In fact, there are several very G o o d [Good] movies that use them. To warrant using custom titles you need to do something special with them.

And it's a similar story with voice overs. If you do them all yourself (and you're not particularly brilliant at altering your voice and acting in general) then I'd rather read subtitles. Some of us are out of school and need to read to keep our brains working Cheeky [:cheeky:] /contradiction of original statement.

Re: 7 Tips on How to create a superb movie!

Pretty cool tips, but with the music, it's OK to use in-game music, so long you use it creatively and it fits the scene... I've used some in-game tracks in sooo many of my movies, and people still seem to like it.

Tips, Shmips.  Movie ideas aplenty here.  A grammarian fisticuff scene with the loser spouting such a magnificent phrase as "Hoisted by my own petard!".  Genius.

Petard: ORIGIN mid 16th cent.: from French pétard, from péter ‘break wind.’
