BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
The following is my version of "The Terrible Old Man" by H.P.Lovecraft, made for the H.P.Lovecraft Film Festival Contest:

http://www.tmo-hi-res.com/TMOinGloriousHighResolution/biggstrek/TheTerribleOldMan.html
Click the poster to be directed to Norrie's site where the preferred version resides. Download and (if possible) listen with headpones. It sounds better that way.
Starring: Fulkster JetCityWoman JosephKw Nahton Zuckerman
Mods By: Tarison, Dr_House, Andy_Inc, Tigereyes, Daninsky, Frenhofer, Rileyman, Biggstrek & MarvellousGuppiMovies
Music By: BiggsTrek
Additional Sound Effects From: FreeSoundProject
Directed By: BiggsTrek
For those that don't know, this movie was edited externally and will NOT be appearing on the TMO charts or my studio page. I had a lot of fun putting it together, using Sony Vegas for the video editing and Sony ACID for the sound design and music.
I also have it up on Vimeo and YouTube, but Norrie's site is the best.
I hope you enjoy.

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
Thanks RavensFan!
The music was fun to do... It was important to me to give this movie a distinct feel and mood throughout, using the visuals, sound effects and especially the music.
I'm especially enjoying doing my own music now. (I've also scored JudyAnn88's latest Hercules movie, and it looks like I'll be doing some music for Cecil_Evan's next feature - which will be quite a challenge!)
Thanks again!

Thanks sisch! I hope you enjoy it!

For those that might want a more immediate means of viewing the movie, here's the link to the Vimeo site (I still recommend going to Norrie's for the best quality):
http://www.vimeo.com/1201299
The quality on Vimeo isn't too bad (unlike YouTube's, which sucks and even made the sound MONO!) though the site has been up and down lately, so I don't know how reliabe it is.
![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
Oh, again I'd like to suggest watching this with headphones if possible. The stereo effects are much more obvious (and effective).
Enjoy!

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
You should really make your own horror film. Develop a brand new IP, then that way you'll be able to manipulate the story as you like.

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
This is one fantastic film. The direction and pacing is superb with some classic Biggstrek "one shot" pans and transitions. The sound design is just incredible and combines with the visuals to successfully set a very creepy mood. To really appreciate the sound design you almost owe it to yourself (after watching it) to shut your eyes and listen to the movie. The sound is done so well it succeeds as a radio play.
I don't intend to discount the visuals because the High def version of this film just looks spectacular. I don't think I've ever seen another TMO based movie that looks as in depth, clarity and effects.
The acting is great as well (present company excepted) with some great charaterizations by Zuckerman, Josephkw, and Fulkster. Put it all together and you have one heck of an entertaining film that should be seen by all! ![Up []](/emoticons/icon14.gif)

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
Wow that was awesome! You sure are a fine director! Especially your camera use is so ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) , I love it ur using the perfect shots for the movies, never showing the line between the backdrop and the set that makes it look so realistic! Than the perfect fitting actors and the detailed set dressing. In this case the most important, the sound design. I bet all that blure screen scenes would have been a hell of a lot more work without rileymans set-dressing to prop tool?! It actually makes a lot easier! =) You sure are on of the best TM directors!

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
Thanks nexus. Yes, it's always better to do your own work. In this case the film was made for a specific film contest and festival. Next year I think I will do as you suggest and write my own story, allowing it to be influenced by H.P.Lovecraft (and that will avoid the chance of my story being made by another TMOer!)
--
I will happily PM you rjanaconda! Liked your film, btw. Nice one!
--
nahton, I very much appreciate your review of my little film. The voice acting by ALL was superb. Don't put yourself down. (You make a great thug!) I'm very happy you noticed the sound design. I spent a fair bit of time on it. My only disappointment is that it doesn't sound as on speakers as it does through headphones. I'll have to be more careful with that in my next film. And outside eidting (to achieve the transitions, etc)... it's simply the best way to do things. I love it.
--
Come on Yami... you know you want to watch it. lol Don't make me get judyann to force you... ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)
--
And TFD, you are too kind. I like to try and make sure that the end result looks as "real" as can be achieved in a TM movie. Rileyman's tool was INVALUABLE in achieving that (and to think, I almost forgot to include him in the credits!!! Luckily I caught it not long before I was finished.)
--
Thank you all again. I appreciate you taking the extra time and effort to watch my entry in the contest.
Cheers!
Anyone else interested in watching 10 minutes of Lovecraft?

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
Oh Bugger! I watched this days ago and forgot to post... sorry Biggs.
Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed it! I watched on a 32" TV with the sound going through the Hi-Fi... I'd say it sounded great; especially with the volume up loud. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) The sound design was memorable, and Biggs' usual great job in shots, angles and all round direction, made it great to look at too.
I watch both adaptations on the same day and, never having read Lovecraft (hangs head in shame), I loved seeing two such differing interpretations of the same piece.
It's made me want to go and read Lovecraft... I can think of no better praise to give this film!

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
TERRIBLE! Just TERRIBLE!
THE TERRIBLE OLD MAN was extraordinary! The care and craftsmanship that went into this production is obvious from the very start and even to the final curtain call. Biggs Trek has outdone himself with set design, sound design, well balanced VOs, stunning camerawork, and well... just EVERYTHING. BRAVO BIGGS! A definite 5+ STARS !
I highly recommend watching the Hi-Res version from Norrie's site!

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
Thanks Elbow! Yes, a vast change to old UPM. Horror isn't my normal genre, so this was a challenge. Cheers for the two thumbs up!
--
Norrie, thanks again for hosting the movie. And thanks for watching! H.P.Lovecraft is (was?) a unique talent. If you like arty, poetic writing of a darker nature, then check him out. Most of his work is freely available on the 'net (like matneee's site: http://tmoct.co.uk/lovecraftlibrary.html , which is where I found the story, I think.)
--
rjanaconda, I know it can be a pain to download a huge file (for those with slower connections), so I really appreciate those that have gone to the trouble of doing so. The music was fun to do (as I think I've said before). And the camera work (all the fun angles, pans, etc) was something I wanted to do, but in films like Underpants Away!, that isn't appropriate. Horror on the other hand... just the right place!
--
And K4. You had me worried for a moment! lol I very much appreciate your comments! Makes the effort all the more worthwhile.

Re: BiggsTrek presents H.P.Lovecraft's "The Terrible Old Man"
Wow! What a story, and what beautiful images and camera angles you chose to make it come to life! This is a great example of why I think outside editing is the way to go! The effects, the sound!!!, great music and vo's, the editing, the setdressing - a real treat for the eyes and ears nobody should miss! Go od luck for the competition, Biggs!
