JOURNEY OF MAN: SUPERNOVA (THE MOVIE) - PRODUCTION THREAD

"JOURNEY OF MAN: SUPERNOVA" is a science-fiction adventure series that is now going to be a FULL LENGTH FEATURE MACHINIMA!!!!

"Journey of Man: Supernova" was my mildly successful machinima series here on the community forum that depicts the human race attempting to escape the solar system after the sun begins its first stages of a Supernova. After some terrible circumstances occur - its up to Captain Caldez to lead the last ship carrying the human race to the far reaches of space to find a new home. Now after a successful four episodes released online - I have decided to halt production on the series last two episodes to re-animate a feature length re-vision.

THEREFORE - THE PRODUCTION THREAD BEGINS.

When I first started working on "Journey of Man: Supernova", I hadn’t created a production thread, and didn’t include the ideas of this AWESOME community!

So why re-make it? BECAUSE IT CAN BE SOOO MUCH BETTER. So what am I changing?

    1. Re-casting all the roles!*
    2. Polishing the story/Better understanding of the central antagonist.
    3. More sets, more mods, more CGI EYE-CANDY!!!
    4. A professional and original score.
    5. And opening my doors to allow you to make suggestions for change!

    HOW CAN THE COMMUNITY HELP?

Drydock If you have a creative set, prop, or something you think could contribute to the feature film - then THIS THREAD IS THE PLACE!!!

I have a specific vision for this film - but since you are all viewing it - I want you to be involved in its making!

Very soon, Ill be releasing a specific podcast that will be dedicated to the production of “Journey of Man: Supernova” and will play host to upcoming releases and announcements.

Like I’ve preached about before - I’m not here for the TMO ranks, to create a studio page and have the highest rated film, or to step on any other sci-fi series or film currently out there. I’m here to show everyone my vision - my imagination - my stories.

Enigma, Conquest, and Eds Destiny are all great sci-fi machina series here! I just hope to be something that some people will enjoy as well!

Well, I’ve gone on enough! "JOURNEY OF MAN: SUPERNOVA", the feature film re-vision, has officially begun PRE-PRODUCTION!!!

*General Wilkins role belongs to Goofparade and will stay with him until he confirms or denies his involvement on the feature length version.

This will be an epic adventure!

To see it re-born under professional treatment will be intriguing to say the least.  I thought JoM was extremely well done already.... but now to approach it with a critical eye will push the concept light years ahead.

    We love G o o d [Good] sci-fi.... bring it on!

    PRODUCTION UPDATE

    >>>>THANKS K4 FOR YOUR CONTINUOUS SUPPORT!!! - HOPEFULLY YOU CAN FIND A NEW COMPUTER SOON!!!<<<<

ALRIGHT!!! Today, I have been working on re-texturing the "Genesis" Spaceship, which our main character Captain Caldez navigates through unmapped space. What I've changed in the texture map is to lighten the hull and decrease the amount of windows that appeared.

Also, as you may notice in the picture that shows the rear of the ship - the ship does use Ion engines to propel it - mainly because of its enormous size (its hard to scale with the photos, but the length of the ship is 4,213 miles).

For those who are new to sci-fi, Ion propulsion is a technology that involves ionizing a gas to propel a craft. Instead of a spacecraft being propelled with standard chemicals, the gas xenon (which is like neon or helium, but heavier) is given an electrical charge, or ionized. It is then electrically accelerated to a speed of about 30 km/second. When xenon ions are emitted at such high speed as exhaust from a spacecraft, they push the spacecraft in the opposite direction.

This ship holds approximately 35,700 KG of Xenon Gas - enough to last the crew 700 years in space.

A Perspective Shot of the Genesis.

A look at the massive Ion Engine.

A extreme closeup of how small the windows are and the scale of the ship. (Still touching this up for a higher quality window map.)

A side view of the ship - 4,213 miles long.

A bird eye view of the ship.

Now the only problem that remains is how the "Genesis" will escape the solar system before the Supernova completely destroys the solar system? That solution will brought to CGI in the near future.

    COMING SOON:

    A BRAND NEW TITEX SPACE-STATION

THE DRY-DOCK WHICH BUILT THE "GENESIS"

THE NEW PLUTO UNDERWATER MINING VESSEL CALLED TAUPE SÉRIEUSE (WHICH WE FIRST MEET CALDEZ)

THE JUMPGATE THAT INITIATES A WARMHOLE

AND THE FLYING CAPITOL OF THE 'NEW ORDER' CALLED CEIL CITY.

Tell me what you think below!!!

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUESTION: If there was one thing you could change from the series, what would it be and why?

Re: JOURNEY OF MAN: SUPERNOVA (THE MOVIE) - PRODUCTION THREAD

Well, I wasn't going to at first, I was going to merely go back and fix some things from the previous episodes and there problems and stuff. But when I looked how complicated it would be - I decided that I could spend just as much time just starting from scratch and making it the best I can. When I released Chapter I, I didn't really know what the conflict was - now I know - I've got it plotted all out and the screenplay is finished. So ya.

Thanks for support and YES - I'll definitly be calling on you!

    PRODUCTION UPDATE

FIXED THE WINDOWS TEXTURE! I have been working on several meshes at the same time - but I've finally got a hi-res version of my windows that allows me to get EXTREME CLOSE UP SHOTS! The only problem is my SHIP_HULL texture map is not hi-res and begins to get gross when I try to get as close as the final image below.

    Wider close up shot

Extreme Close up shot (I'm going to use a higher resolution version of my hull map)

But as you can see, the larger windows are in fact six enormous windows - this helps sell the ships scale. From wide shot you think the ship is just another ship - but when you zoom in on the windows, you realize that the ship is much bigger then initial assumptions.

ALSO - IF YOU ARE A MODDER - AND WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER YOUR SKILLS AND TIME TO ME - PLEASE PM ME.

THERE ARE SOME SPECIFIC SETS AND ITEMS I WOULD LIKE CUSTOM MADE.

Tell me that you think below!

    Fellow TMO'ers.

D.L. Watson is a serious machinima director with incredible vision and execution. I'm glad to be a part of his work, it's groundbreaking.

Here he is re-making a series that he has previously workshopped. Now he is re-casting the whole lot, adding original music, tweaks to the plot and enhanced visuals. Going for broke on this one.

I for one, am hoppin' aboard because I know this will be special and I hope that some of my acting and moding friends will participate in what I think will be a unique and captivating machinima feature.

    PRODUCTION UPDATE

TAUPE SÉRIEUSE! I have finished modeling the TAUPE SÉRIEUSE, the ship where Caldez exiles himself too after he abandons World War III. This ship is designed to mine a sediment that settles in the very deep regions of Pluto's seas. While the ship glides through the water, the sediment is magnetized and is attracted to the ships harvesters.

Inside some of the large rocks of sediment are small crystals which if handled properly, can extract large amounts of rich H2o. I wonder who or what would need large amounts of H2o... Smily [:)]

The look of the ship is inspired by a craft from Star Wars universe.

    PRODUCTION UPDATE

MARS ORBITER SPACE-DOCK! I have finished modeling the Mars Orbiter Space-Dock, the one place where most of the government build their exclusive fleet of ships. Its also the "Control Tower" to the launching of "Genesis" which is located on the dark side of Mars - docked with the largest dry-dock ever created (a model which is soon to come)

The look of the space-dock is inspired by a craft from Star Trek universe.

Hope everyone is enjoying the production photos. I feel alone with my excitment - except those who have commented, and you know who you are. Anyways, please, if you have taken the time to open this thread, please take a few more seconds and leave a comment below - no matter what you say. PLEASE! Wink [;)] THANKS

    Hey DL watson,

I look forward to working with you on the new Journey of Man series, I'm a bit saddened that you "feel alone" with your excitement for the project because I know how hard you work and how great you make things look. Much better to have people encouraging you, especially when it's so well deserved.

I wish a few more TMO people would stop for a sec and look at what you've done and more importantly what you can do next. Look at those screenshots!.. look at his films.

Folks, this is done using The Movies software, yes,it's enhanced and edited offline but THIS is the future of TMO, so have a look see what you could be a part of..

DL needs talent, modders, actors, music,

    be a part of a G o o d [Good] thing or I will hunt you down...

Journey of Man was an excellent production to begin with. But for you to go back and re-envision it, shows that you are serious about making Journey of Man as best as it can be... I look forward to it. Up []Smily [:)]

    PRODUCTION UPDATE

"GENESIS" DRY-DOCK! I have finished modeling the "Genesis" dry-dock - the largest built ship construction platform ever - however - not big enough. When the government built the dock, they had not yet finalized a design for the Genesis space-ship. When they finally did - construction on the dock itself had almost finished - and realized the dock would only be able to fit a portion of the ship. Somehow, they managed.

A screenshot of the completed Genesis docked. As you can see, the Genesis dwarfs the dock.

    Front of the drydock

    Side of the drydock

and of course, bird eye view.

I've been doing alot of modeling, writing etc etc. Thank you Goofparade for attempting to get more people involved! Captain Strider, thanks for your words, they are greatly appreciated!

Wow, it sure has been a while since I was in this thread. Half way through my pre-production work on here, I was introduced to an incredible story written by my friend and business partner Nick Blacketer called "The Grey People".

So fans of this old series and now feature film, don't worry, I definitely have plans to return and bring an exciting and action-packed adventure to all of your computers.

    Stay tuned...
