    Animation Files

I've uploaded The Movies animations files to Skinshack!

This folder comes with ALL the animation files from The Movies PC game by Lionhead. 8000 files, 120 MB worth!

An nice advantage to having these is using your computers search engine to find a specific animation.

Plus, for those who have some animated actors(or my Animated Actors also found on Skinshack or Melghoul's on DCMF!), you can use these to recycle these props by giving them new animations!

TIP:  Animations with the key word "idle" 90% of the time DO NOT move.  G o o d [Good] for dead bodies, standing armies, etc!

To use these files rename the desired animation to match the name of your animated prop actor.

    Example:

The name of the animation you want to change is called:

    aa_p_BODY1_v00.anm

You want to make the actor do a drunken dance instead using these two animation files:

    drunken_1_dance_in.anm--->Rename it aa_p_BODY1_v00.anm.
    drunken_2_dance_in.anm--->Rename it aa_p_BODY1_v01.anm.

Put these new files back, and replace your old ones, in:
    C:\Program Files\Lionhead Studios Ltd\The Movies\Data\animations\high\autoanimated!  Viola!  A new animated actor!

ANIMATION FILES PACK  It's a large file, 79.8 MB rar.  But it is a G o o d [Good] investment.

But if you know how to use MED.  Just click on animations and extract all of the "high" files and you'll get the same files.

I'll be out of The Movies loop for a while due to school, so this will hopefully help those budding moviemakers out there... Smile [:)]

    Re: Animation Files

The animation files are all the things the characters in the game do.  From the studio lot acting scenes, building, researching to the movie scenes like driving, fighting, dying etc.

Swapping the animation files with your animated actor props animations will let you have more options on what they can do.

If you look at the names of the animation files you can tell what each does.

    G o o d [Good] tips here, Rysto.

You could also tip about what costume, haircut and face if anyone would like to change something in the leading mesh of a character prop.

Actually, that involves getting each mesh, costume, head, hair, accessory and putting them together in 3D Max or blender, exporting them as a single mesh, THEN running them through Meshmanip before adding your animations.

    Re: Animation Files

With Reacher's upgrades to his Mesh Manipulator 2 it's ALOT easier to make those animated prop actors.

You just have to paste the meshes you want your character to have(head, hair, glasses, backpack, etc.) to one single mesh.  Add the added meshes textures and label them to the correct mesh.
I wish Mesh2 worked with my video card.  That way it would save me even more time from having to going back and forth from the movies game to see how the props look.

If enough people pester Reacher I'm sure he could manage that Prop Actor Making Program.  Confused [*-)]

Time to bring this up as its pretty handy.  Got an auto-animated prop and you want it to perform a new action?  Well here ya go!  Now to see if I can pull it off.  Hehe.  Thanks Rysto

    Re: Animation Files

So this alows you to make your actor do things on set besides the predetermend movements?

because i hate that you dont have complete control of there movements.

for instance it will let the actor go sit down but i want him to walk left instead.

    Re: Animation Files

An animated actor prop like the ones you download from 8EB or DCMF or skinshack.  Not the actual actors.  And yea, I got it to work.  Opens up some new doors for sure...eh infested?

Yes, and mostly no Stick out tongue [:P]

AutoAnimated props (AA Props) are basically props that look like actors, and they can perform a series of any of these animations that Rysto extracted.

But they perform the animations in the list at random.  You can't control the sequence or order.  You can attach 10 animations to the AA Prop, but which one happens next is completely random.

This is G o o d [Good] for placing 'extras' that do one or two things in a shot, but I'm afraid this won't do what you're thinking of.

For example, if you attached one of the 'sitting' animation to an AA prop, your actor would keep sitting down, over and over... or just sit, continuously, depending on which sitting animation you used.

Full-blown scene editing is still on the horizon. Smoker [:zmoker:]

So, if I want to change the animations of one of your Police Actor Props to the 'sitting in car' animation, how would I change it? Tongue Tied [:S]

    Re: Animation Files

You have to name the animation file you want to use to the same as the one you are replacing. So whatever animation file came with the police Actor Prop you want to use, you choose your new animation (I would make a copy of course) and change it to the same name as the animation  file the prop came with(I would change the prior animation file name to something else so you don't overwrite it). The names of the animation files usually match the name of the prop.

So usually the actor prop named p_policeman.msh would have an animation named aa_p_policeman_v00.anm So you take aa_p_policeman_v00.anm and rename it to aa_p_policemanold_v00.anm (or whatever you like so you don't lose it) and take the one you want to use and rename it to aa_p_policeman_v00.anm and it should work.

The naming my differ just use the animation that came with the prop as your guide. Smily [:)]

Anyone feel free to correct me if I have gotten it wrong, I am doing it from memory while here at work. Wink [;)]
