Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?

I just noticed gamespy and some user impressions, and they agree on heavy slow down with enemies and the user reported mediocre graphics, which i do not see in screenshots so far at all

So, has anyone played it in PAX ? Was the TV they used crap or something ? Because in pics looks amazing, and i doubt they are faked or touched up in any way

    Iffy
Still has framerate issues; working a "job" while playing a game seems odd.

    Note the below

Even in the 10 or so week-old preview build that we played today, in which framerate hitches and animation miscues were still evident, the bones of some pretty sweet gameplay were also present, so cautious optimism seems justified

One thing that disappointment me during the demo was how little the Hero’s dog companion was utilized. He ran around in the background, barking periodically, and would fetch a rubber ball that we would throw at him. However, he never directly engaged to combat, making him more of a decoration than a tool. I’m guessing that’s going to change, however.

Another thing that has me slightly worried about Fable 2 is that the graphics just didn’t look very G o o d [Good]. The environments look amazing with swaying grass as you walk through into, etc. but the game’s graphics were so redolent with jagged textures that it made it almost painful to watch at times. Granted, I was standing only a few feet away from the screen and the HDTV’s they were running the game on did sort of suck. One thing about the game’s visuals that Fable 2 can’t blame on the TV’s is the massive slowdown that plagued the game. Whenever there were more than five enemies on screen, the game would take a very obvious frame rate dip whenever spells were cast.

Frankly the latest pics show some of the best visuals i have seen this gen, hope it was the crappy TV, and all the pics we get are 100% in game, which i think are

Well, you answered yourself really: 10 or so week-old preview build

I have confidence in LH, your's seems to be lacking somewhat. I'm aware also, before you start, that this is a free forum, but this is the second time I've seen you post quite negative stuff about F2, without first hand experience of it. That's just my thoughts though, you go ahead and believe what you want to, almost as if you want to dislike F2.... Wink [;)]

Also, all games have slow down, its just what threshold they have before it happens. I doubt 5 enemies is Fable's.

Worst game for slow down ever was Viking and I still play that now and again for the epic battles. Slow down isn't a big thing for me but what is, is the glitches in some games like getting stuck in the walls in Alone in the dark ugh.....But luckily lionhead are really G o o d [Good] with their bug spotting, I can't remember complaining once while playing Fable ^^ [^^]

TBH i just do not care about the slowdown at all

I care about the pics we have though, while the game looks incredible in pics, i have not seen a single preview, hands on etc that say anything G o o d [Good] about them, which is rather strange to say the least

That is all, i just want to get what i see in pics, and impressions so far make me doubt it a bit

As for .. "wanting to hate Fable 2", no, i just want it to be perfect, it is the exact opposite of what you think, i follow Fable since Project Ego days, and Fable 2 is my most anticipated and important game

That is why i would hate to be dissapoited, if graphics are not as G o o d [Good] as shown in pics, and if spells are so underwheming visually comparing to Fable 1 ones

Jagged textures?! Run for your lives! Tired [:tired:]

But, slowdown, mediocre textures are somehow a surprise? Not really. You pay a price for the things you do.

And I wouldn't start expecting that all of these issues will be fixed either.

Ya case frankly Graphics never bugged me much I grew up when your character was a dot on the screen and that it.... but slow down are my weak point when it comes to game i like to stay fluent and fun.

slow down haunts my dreams before i go to bed,
after experiencing Universe At War...any game with any slow down bothers me more than it should.

I really, really really...REALLY hope LH fixes that...
to me..wouldn't it make going through the cities that much more annoying?

in the first Fable you could go up against 20 somewhat balverines without having to worry.

So you do doubt the quality of F2. The first picture you posted looks like it has been touched up, but the second is 100% in-game. They look pretty good to me. And just because people don't say something is good, doesn't make it bad Wink [;)]

    No, you are misquoting me, or twisting my words, one or the other. I said;
    Uzi:
almost as if you want to dislike F2
I didn't say you did dislike it, or that you hated it. It is merely an observation. Months have gone by and we haven't seen any negative posts about F2 from any established members (by that I mean non-spam from people who have been here longer than a week Wink [;)]). Then, two pop up in the space of less 24 hours, both by your good self. Just seems like a coincidence, that's all I'm saying.

No one here wants to be disappointed, but that doesn't lead to posts about doubts they have for the game. I'm just saying what I see Wink [;)]

Bloody Uzi always beats me to saying what I am going to say which is that it is a 10 week odd old build of the game

it will be perfectly fine when it ships

You can train your dog to be part of the combat. In those demos Peter designed it so the dog will only attack enemies that fell on the floor. Also, I have no idea about what they mean with "mediocore graphics" the graphics are amazing, especially the shadow effects.
You have enemies? G o o d [Good], that means you actually stood up for something.

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?

Even if it was a 10 week old build those reviewers were probably just be over critical of the graphics. They look amazing to me even on video recordings of the game being played.

All I'm worried about is the slow down. If the full release of the game has any sort of slow down what so ever I'll have to consider taking it back after I finish it. It will ruin the experience for me.

Just to clarify that you won't have two Heroes in the same game! The host will be the Hero and the other player will be a henchman.

I dodint realise Lionhead were going for revolutionary graphics, i though they focusing on game play. Well whatever the weather Trevor, I think the graphics are G o o d [Good]. Not the best granted, but still G o o d [Good].

I also think the graphics look G o o d [Good] enough. I could not care less about some minor slow down unless it's worse than in the original Fable. I mean I still play Fable TLC on the 360 with some slowdown but the game is still awesome.
I was a lucky sperm that made it against great odds. And I never lost my youthful enthusiasm.

If slowdown would ruin your experience, why play it all the way through? ORLY [orly] That just reads like you want to have your cake and eat it. Play the whole game then get your money back? Greedy much? You have your enjoyment out of the game, then deprive the people that created/published the game out of their hard earned cash?

The version that was shown at PAX was indeed from a while ago, around 10 weeks (give or take). There were some framerate issues that we knew about (esp come to magic effects), also several bugs and the final lighting (environment themes) hadn't been done either.

I kept saying to people at the show that the visuals in the demo we had, weren't final and that the version of today looks much better (since the right coloring and shading etc... has been done) plus the framerate is going to be running at 30.

So, that means all the new pics (oakfiled fields etc) like the above are 100% in game, no touch ups at all ?

It doesn't matter if the game is out or not, people will always fine smoething to complain about. I think that the graphics look amazing, but I still know that no game can be absolutely perfect ( I know Lionhead tried their hardest and hopefully they suceeded)

I'd wait for the first reviews to come up and read their impressions of the graphics before making a judgment. Don't take just my word for it! Smily [:)]
