Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
Thanks Sam for clearing that up.
Also, great article nasos! I had not seen that before. ![Up []](/emoticons/icon14.gif)
Sam:
"The panoramas are genuinely impressive, the art team clearly having combined with the game's designers and programmers to create a vision of an RPG landscape that really does look like a fantasy obsessive's wet dream. The visuals are stylised, but not overly so, while the animation and attention to detail will surely be the 360 showcase Microsoft are hoping for."

However, this article is newer, and looks more reassuring.![Up []](/emoticons/icon14.gif)

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
Uzi:Anyway, Sam has had a word, and nasos seems pleased now ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) Eh nasos? ![Stick out tongue [:P]](/emoticons/emotion-4.gif)
Actually i have been vastly impressed with everything i have seen last few months, from OXM pics to, latest pics from 19 August etc etc
My problem is the huge contradiction between what i see, andsome impressions that call the visuals mediocre at best, making me question the pics we have got so far
But now i am 100% sure all are in game, and people have seen an old version anyway too
In fact it is because those are the best visuals i have seen, and the world i always dreamt of playing in, since i started gaming, and the huge contradiction of how much i like the visuals to user impressions has me puzzled
I know 1000 things could be wrong, the TV, the old build, maybe a fanboy trying to downplay the game etc etc, and now after Sam words , i regained all faith back to where it was
All i want, is to make sure the game looks like the pics we see here, not make sure if those pics look , they are the best thing for me by miles, i doubt any other game will be as beutifull as this until Fable 3 of course, or that new secret title ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)

That "user from pax" lost all credibility when he compared Project Origin to "Fallout 3". Despite that, though, at the end of the day it just felt like a
formulaic first person shooter that paled in comparison to the insane
amount of depth that games like Fallout 3 are offering.

You need to understand the context of the event. Entirely original, innovative and mind blowing games are being displayed left and right. And then you have Project Origin which feels depressingly generic, formulaic, and devoid of any of the innovative features that the competitors around it are presenting. Don't like the Fallout comparison? Granted that was a bit of a stretch since the latter is a more of a RPG hybrid than a straight up first person shooter, but I really wanted to emphasize just how unoriginal and bland Project Origin truly looked. On one hand you have games like Fallout defining what next generation games should be, and then you have Project Origin. Those were my IMPRESSIONS of the DEMO. The article was never presented as a review of a complete copy, and my only regret was that I never had a chance to talk to the rep at the Fable 2 booth to clarify the graphical issues.

I'll backpeddle a little and give you some feedback about the article. I did like the fact that you gave some honest feedback about all the games. There are way to many glowing previews of games that later turn out to be really bad. And for that I will probably come back to your blog from time to time just to get a real honest preview. However, you can't compare a stat driven, 100-hour, drawn out rpg to a First Person Shooter that will be 10 hours if that. Even if Project Origin is just an awful game I still wouldn't compare it to Fallout 3. When I read that I immediately thought that the writer was comparing Fallout 3 to Project Origin because they thought that both of them were shooters. It reminded me of those people who compared Mass Effect to Halo 3 before it was released. That's what you sounded like. A person that had no understanding of what type of company Bethesda softworks was and what types of games they develop.

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
Look, it is maybe just that part of the game their showing, maybe they still have to take out the bugs in that part of the game.
In one interview PM said
"I've really worried the team now because I've decided to take a part of the game build to show that still has at least 300 bugs visual on screen"
It's probably a old build

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
Well, a couple days I posted my findings at Pax here. Also, about the so-called big slow-downs and stuff...I played the game two times over the first two days, and watched a lot the third day. A couple of times during big combat scenes there were a couple of slow-downs. Both the times I played it was another person. Overall, there is still a little bit of optimization left, but I came out extremely happy. The game looks great so far.

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
Sabretoothmonkey:Worst game for slow down ever was Viking and I still play that now and again for the epic battles. Slow down isn't a big thing for me but what is, is the glitches in some games like getting stuck in the walls in Alone in the dark ugh.....But luckily lionhead are really ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) with their bug spotting, I can't remember complaining once while playing Fable ![^^ [^^]](/emoticons/^^.gif)
I once thought Fable was very buggy and was crashing my Xbox, until I had the same problem in every other game. Turned out that the DVD-ROM in my Original Xbox was failing. Then I called Microsoft and they wanted $150+shipping both ways to fix it. This at a time when I could pickup a brand new Xbox for $45. ![WTF [:wtf:]](/emoticons/wtf.gif) Fable was an excellent game, and I can forgive Lionhead for not releasing it with all those things that had been promised initially. The original Fable vision was truly ambitious, evidently more ambitious than what was technically feasible at the time and you really can't blame Lionhead for having ambition. I like to think of original Fable as a stepping stone to even greater and more ambitious things. I'm confident Fable 2 will appease that sense of loss from the ideas that had to be left out of Fable and give us even more. I agree with Sabertoothmonkey, Lionhead will do their best to make sure every bug is squashed before Fable 2 goes gold.

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
Sam:
The version that was shown at PAX was indeed from a while ago, around 10 weeks (give or take). There were some framerate issues that we knew about (esp come to magic effects), also several bugs and the final lighting (environment themes) hadn't been done either.
I kept saying to people at the show that the visuals in the demo we had, weren't final and that the version of today looks much better (since the right coloring and shading etc... has been done) plus the framerate is going to be running at 30.
Thank god, That framerate itself is awesome compared to other games I have played. The game still looks so damn amazing.

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
There have been very few games I have bought into on graphics alone. I want compelling story, fun gameplay and some variety. ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) graphics is icing and is probably the first thing you take for granted in every game you have ever played.

Nice ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
So, that means all the new pics (oakfiled fields etc) like the above are 100% in game, no touch ups at all ?
Heh I never know what goes on in your mind aeh nasos....and you easily panic, so I don't know what you're seeing in the pictures that I don't, but yes they're 100% ingame. I'd wait for the first reviews to come up and read their impressions of the graphics before making a judgment. Don't take just my word for it! ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
People's criticism of magic and frame rate and all that reminds me of people's criticism's of graphics when the first screenshots were released. It's all such a deja vu. Eventually people ate their words when they saw how wrong they were. And people will do it again when the game comes out and they get to see how wrong they are. Everyone's entitled to their opinions, yeah, but I just wish the more critical people would at least wait until the game is released, and they've actually played it before they decide.

Wow someone agreed with me *does a little happy dance and gives that person a hug* but yeah if Sam says that it looks much better then it's much better . I'm not worried because after playing some utter rubbish the past few months Fable 2 is going to seem like a godsend. Now the next step for me is convincing my idiot boyfriend not to keep playing fallout 3 all the time, my xbox MY FABLE!

Your an idiot, plain and simple, but I wont start a fallout discussion with you here since this is a fable forum which you should have respected in the first place, this isnt a place to bash other games.
Anyway, my view of fable 2 that some dont understand is the artistic value and the direction they chose to make the game take. It looks like a fairy tale that you would imagine. I love the art design for the game, it really makes you feel like your in the old times in a fairy tell setting and I appreciate the artist that are doing it.
Sam thanks alot for a developer that cares enough to clear these things up for people who dont understand, its always nice to see a developer take the time to address its fans.

Re: Reports of mediocre graphics, textures, slow down from PAX, could anyone that visited clear up ?
SaentTheHero:All I'm worried about is the slow down. If the full release of the game has any sort of slow down what so ever I'll have to consider taking it back after I finish it. It will ruin the experience for me.
Exactly, slow down can be a female dog that seriously takes away from entertainment.
The graphics look fine for all I saw, and we know what most game testers are: Graphic Whores
Give them shiny pictures and they will be all Game of the Year! even if the gameplay is shite, but give them graphics that fit the game and they will say Uh yeah, but your Grapics are not as as those from random render demo XY...
If they said the graphics looked repetitive or too bland, I might care, but calling them mediocre can mean anything with those people, and mostly it simply means not brillant enough.
I'm not sure why people put so much weight on the fighting or non fighting of the dog, this is not your Fallout party member.
