This project looks amazing - if you have any small roles I'd be honoured to play a part in this.

Keep your eyes peeled. I'll be casting for all the roles (save the main lead male and female) soon.

I'll most likely do casting in November or December. Depends how the re-shoot goes.

But keep in mind that when we eventually do auditions, we will want people with G o o d [Good] quality mic's. We don't want to have people sounding like they are talking over a phone in the film.

But I'm sure this wont be a problem because some people here have quality voice-tracks and if someone who is interested in auditioning doesn't have a suitable mic, you have plenty of time before casting begins to save up 20 or 30 bucks and get a nice computer mic.

Re: "THE GREY PEOPLE" NEW PRODUCTION THREAD

Man, you are listening to one tired guy. I love how when I make a decision to try and do something I've never seen on TMO or around, it takes me FOREVER to accomplish. I'm in a world of trouble too, I told my girl an hour ago that I would meet her in bed in twenty minutes. lol

Anyways, so what did I do that I havent seen in TMO (i could be wrong, haven't really checked). I've always wanted to pan in from space or something through the viewport of a ship. Well, what better place to do it then on the viewscreen of the bridge. Thanks to Uber, I was able to get some prop Greenscreen's to help cut-out all of the set except the section of a prop bridge (thanks to Riley) and looking from the outside in. Then in post production, I key out the green, do some rotoscoping to fix the flooring, and pan & crop the newly rendered green matted footage and impose it onto the ship's footage.

All and all, you wont really understand all of this through my talking. So you will have to use the images below to take a look at the final shot or wait for the DVD for the special features on how I did it.

I've included some more screenshots as well from more footage.

    Have a great night!

p.s. I think I'm going to add a small effect to make it look more like a window on the ship scene.

    UPDATES! UPDATES! UPDATES!

    UPDATES! UPDATES! UPDATES!

So yesterday I decided to take a break from the "principle photography" of the film and start cracking out some of the Special FX scenes. I first want to give a shoutout to Ubernewbie's mod pack he released, without it, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish the look I was intending. Thanks dude!

Anyways, in the opening scene, it shows a colonizer ship approaching the earth. I first tried to pull the scene off using the Greenscreen Set and the ship I chose provided in uber's mod pack, however, the earth mod prop spins way too fast. So I decided I would composit the ship on 3D scene, but that left me with another challenge. The ship has many hues of blue and green in it. If I used either color as a background matte, it would surely cut into the chip if I keyed the green or blue out and that would not be fun.

So I opened my 3Ds Max 2009 and created a pure red DDS image and saved it into the texture/backdrops and made a thumb in the texture/backdrops/thumb folder. I restarted the game and boya! Redscreen (the color furthest away from the objects).

Then it was only a matter of moving the camera around the ship to simulate that the ship is actually moving. Then, in the same filming session, I opened by bluescreen set and began building a ship dock (which in the film is about 4 miles out in Lake Michigan). Thanks to Guppi's awesome water prop, I created several different camera angles which matched the angles of the redscreen ship scenes.

I exported in High Definition (2048x872) and brought it into my Sony Vegas Pro. I used its keyer to get rid of the red in all the ship scenes and I adjusted the pan and crop to acurately meet my aspect ratio (2.35:1). Adding some filter effects, lens effects, and of course color correction and shadow effects.

I rendered and man I'm sure am proud that everything went as smoothly as it did. And it looks freakin fabulous! So here are some screenshots with some added from other parts of the film. Enjoy!

    Re: UPDATES! UPDATES! UPDATES!

Honestly D.L., by the look of that one picture with the ship docking, it seems unrealistic to have the lower quarters upside-down with the kind of gravitational pull that Earth has, unless of course the same artificial-gravitiy stabilizers are still online so that the people can exit out as if they're walking through the thing in space Smily [:)]. But, that was just a suggestion to think about storywise- realism matters- even though this stuff may never, or won't be out for many years, it's still possible that we may be able to do that stuff.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. Is there a site where we can view your past movies? What will happened with the redux of the Supernova series? And will you be posting an authorized clip, or trailer within the next few weeks of TGPP?

Nexus...I have thought thoroughly over the use of the ship and what the "domes" are on the ship. And while its clearly written in the script what they are used for, I will tell you here. The ship is a terraformer, and the domes are detachable planetary units which land on the surface of a planet and filter the toxins from the planets atmosphere. In the story, they are trying to terraform Titan, a small moon, because it harbors the right ingredients in chemicals to transform into a breathable environment. For the specific scenes above, the ship is returning home to have the gathered toxins from Titan used for their new reactor system which can distribute a new energy source around the world.

So nobody can be in the domes, they would die. Don't worry nexus, the dE v i l [Evil] is in the details and I try and make sure I cover all of them.

As far as Journey of Man: Supernova, the film is definitly still active but is on hold due to this production. It will be somewhat simular to the series, however, one of the major changes it will be a feature film and have some the best visual fx I can accomplish.

And for my previous films, I only have two previous The Movies films. Ez-Gar, a robotic assassin who works for a IRS agent to take down tax infringers. And Russ Wild, a western film about a man stripped of everything and left to die. From the ashes of his pain, he becomes the outlaw known as Russ Wild.

I will be releasing an authorized clip and trailer soon.

Hey thanks Pooka! I appreciate it but really, anyone can pull off these effect. You just need to have a pre-planned list of effects you want, you need an external editor with chroma keying ability and patience.

The future of this game is external editing (my opinion really).

A TGP CLIP AND A HOW TO GUIDE!!!

A STEP BY STEP "HOW I DID THIS" AND A LOW-RES CLIP FROM "THE GREY PEOPLE"!!!!

    WOW
. I am thrilled to show you a very nice clip, that lasts for seconds in the film, but took me hours to make (mainly because I get distracted with my girlfriend and TV).

So what I'm showing you is a scene which shows our actors in an office, with the camera outside the building looking into the window - with of course some of the rest of the city in the background.

To accomplish this task, I will need one of the bluescreens provided by Tarison. I used the largest in this case, but the small should be fine.

I will select the animation of "Boss Report" and build my set around my actors. I then go into freecam mode. I will leave the camera at the position it is except to pull it back to where my characters are in a wide-shot and the "window" area is clearly off to the left of the camera more then the center.

Then I use a greenscreen prop (this is not nessessary, but it helps me later) and I place them accordingly to match where I want to "crop" the footage later. When I finished, I ended up with a image like this:

Then of course, we need our building that our characters are supposed to be in. So I go to a miniature set, I used the Future City added to 8eyedbaby.com by "Temple of the Gods", and I choose the animation of "static". I choose (I believe) camera position "3" and then aligned its focus to be parallel with the ground (the trick is to have the camera looking at the building at a small angle). I chose my building, which was the tallest of the rest, and took the camera straight up. I got the camera in the position I felt was closest to the previous scenes camera angle. When it was finished, I got a background scene that looked like this:

Now that I had both the office scene and the background plate, I exported the footage in HD and brought it into my preferred editing platform (Sony Vegas 8 Pro). To make this work, I have to do some cropping. First, the problem with the shot video is that the flooring is showing, so its not something as simple as just keying out the green. So, to get rid of the flooring and everything around the window, I will make a HD screenshot of the scene. I then open that up in my paint program and colored the window section red and everything around it green. It looked like below:

If your asking why do this, well, because again, I need to cut out everything in the office scene except the actual window. I brought the HD image into the editing timeline and keyed out the red and only the red. I placed it ontop of the office scene and got this in my preview screen:

Now to give this more realism, I needed to add another timeline between the green/redscreen image and the office scene and place a "window" texture over the actors. To accomplish this, I simply dragged a solid color media file and gave it like 10% opacity with a feathered cookie cutter in the center to create the illusion of reflection. When finished, I got this in my preview screen:

Now, this is where I utilize my patience skills...because I need to stretch those images to the width of the scene (the scene that I want to appear in the 'window'). Then I rendered the scene in HD which takes like a hour for a 30 second clip lol. I must do this because, when its finished, I want to key out the green which will cut out everything except the windowed office scene.

So while that footage is rendering, I open up another project timeline and I take the background footage of the building and there is something very important that I must do to it. I must cut-out where I want the window to fit in. Now, some might argue that if the rendering footage is just going to have all the green cut out that you can just place it ontop of the building and say your done. However, it would look like just that. I want it to look like we are looking through a window.

So I take a HD screenshot of the background since the footage is static anyways and open the image in my paint program. I then re-draw the window in red where I want the window to appear on the building. When I get finished, it looks like this:

Now that my scene from before is done rendering, I place it onto the timeline. I then take my background image with the red window cut out and I key out the red. That gives me a image that looks like this:

But I'm still not satisfied, so I will take the background footage that doesn't have the red-screen footage and place it ontop of the two others and I will lower the opacity on it maybe 25 to 30% to make it mix better with the scene. When finished, I came up with a image that looked like this:

To see the low-res finished product, click here!
*THIS CLIP DOESN'T HAVE AUDIO, IS IN LOW-DEFINITION, AND HAS NOT BEEN COLOR CORRECTED.

Some directors may find this way too much work to do for some simple 30 second scene, and while I agree with them that you have to have alot of patience to do it, I will also say that it would be the difference between you and I.

    Quality vs. Speed.

    Quality is my friend.
