This post is directed to Lionhead Studios and all of my fellow players who need to be aware of this bug so it doesn't happen to you.  I need to state clearly, I have tried this on LOCAL coop with the game patched to the latest.  I have not tried this on online coop yet.  But I assume it will yield the same results.

And again, I apologize if this has been mentioned before.  There isn't a bug report forum so I have no idea what has been posted in terms of this problem.

It's simple.  My brother stopped by for a visit last night and loaded up his own XBOX Live profile, while I loaded mine.  He created a NEW Fable II game, and I joined his game with my existing character.  I had lots of spells, thousands of gold and experience.  Well it appears the game initializes at some point during the child experience and it erases your gold, experience and all of your abilities.  0.  Zip.  Nada.

Upon testing coop play when both games were already in Hero phase, the game worked correctly and each player had their own experience and abilities. 

Lionhead, you need to fix this, because i'm sure people would like to jump in with their characters to help out noobie friends, and they are going to be pissed when all their hard work was completely wiped.  There is no getting it back either.  You just take a total loss.

The work around for now is... if you have a player who is just starting out, do not join their game until they are least out on their own and heading for Browerstone.  I would also like to get some confirmation on this bug just to make sure i'm not missing something to duplicate this.

Are you saying that you have nothing as a child?  If so, that's how it's supposed to be.  I was well into my game and joined my wife's game during her childhood.  Once I went back to my game I stll had everything I had before.

No.  I'm saying it wipes your spells, gold, and abilities.  Even when you return, it's gone.

How long did you stay in the game with your wife?  Did you stay in it through the entire childhood and quest through the dungeon up to visiting Browerstone for the first time?  Because that's what we did, and everything I had got wiped clean.  It scared me so much, so we quit his game, and joined mine, and everything was gone.  I still had my clothes, but like I said, spells, abilities, and gold... wiped.  0.

Need more confirmation on this.  I'm not making this up.  lol

I only joined her game for like 5 seconds.  I just wanted to see what the character model for childhood co-op looked like.

Ok you may have not been in the game long enough to commit a save.  And perhaps the "wipe" doesn't happen until you are far enough along in the childhood questing.  I'm not sure entirely where the wipe occurs, but I know that it does.

We are both software developers and spent some time figuring out what happened.  And this is what we have come up with so far.  Again I hope Lionhead Devs are watching this and can implement a fix.

And for you players out there, just wait to join a coop game until your friend reaches Browerstone for the first time.  Trust me, it's a horrible feeling when you see literally all of your stats wiped.  When that happened, we went on a killing rampage in Browerstone and killed hundreds of guards and townspeople.  rofl, I got all my experience back and a ton of spells.. but now the town is screwed in to the ground and i'm as hell.  haha

Thanks for the reply KaleidoscopeMan!  You guys really do read the forums!!   No worries on losing my stuff.  My brother and I had a blast destroying Browerstone lol.  I wasn't too far in to the game, so I will just start over and give it another go.  Like you, i'm hoping this is fixed soon!

Thank you for responding to this bug.  It's to hear from a member of the dev team. 

Your welcome. We have been looking over the forums for problems that we can fix and will do our best... Hopefully everyone can forgive us for the occasional problem that you guys have found. We fixed over 65,000 bugs on the game (it's so massively huge and complicated) that it's unfortunately inevitable some will slip through - after all, I guess everyone plays the game differently. We'll keep you posted.

Just a bump, because so many people are continually posting about this subject when Lionhead has responded in this thread.  The solution is simple,

Do not join a coop game with your existing character with a friend who is starting out as a child. 

Lionhead is fixing the problem, and hopefully will see it resolved in the next patch.

I just found out about t his bug the hard way. I had about 15 hours into the game and now my character has no experience/money or home. I'm really not interested in playing this crap again. I'm so mad.

Fixing a game killing bug in the next patch is inadequate. This bug ruined the game for me. I'm so angry right now.

A lot of work goes into finding and fixing these problems. Then the fix needs to be verified so it doesn't BREAK something else. All I can say is, were it me I would have gladly started over. Love this game

Well it happened to me, obviously... and I thought I was going to be forced to start over... but you really don't have to.  You still own your shops, and your weapons.  At least I had mine.  My experience, gold, and abilities were wiped, but that was easy enough to get back.  I went on a mad killing spree around town and killed guards for 6 hours and I had maxed out spell abilities, where I was no-where near that level before my char was wiped. 

While you may feel compelled to start over, I hope a lot of folks who run in to this problem (until it is fixed) will realize it's not TOO bad generally.

This happened to me earlier today and I posted in the problems sub forum.

The biggest problem isn't starting again (though this isn't ). For me it was losing the 15 items I'd really struggled to get without cheating in the Pub Games.

To say I'm gutted is an under statement. I'd only logged on for 10 minutes with my daughter. As software engineer by trade I can't see any way they'll be able to fix players saves where this has happened. Whilst they can remove the chance this will happen again the stats for that player are gone. Maybe Lionhead could release the pub game character that's merged from the glitched one? No idea.

I'd love to have some idea whether I should wait for a possible fix or just start a new character and abandon all that I achieved in the pub games... If I start a new character should I link him to my fable 2 player? Can I link a 2nd pub game character if my first comes back?

My problem is renown. Am I not right in assuming there's only a limited amount of renown?

So how do I get enough to carry on with the quest I'm on? I need 400 for the monk?

Also isn't there an achievement for maxing your renown so I'd be missing out on trying for that?

That is a really question.  Did you lose your renown?  I know you can increase it by 4 methods,

1.) Showing off trophies
2.) Paying a bard to sing songs about you
3.) Have a sculptor make a statue of you
4.) Getting married increases renown

You can try the above, and I also recommend you go to sleep for 7 days.  This seemed to help with renown by making time pass by.  Since I haven't been in your position with the renown, I can't say for sure, but you should be able to get through it just fine.

Hi, I had the terribly unfortunate experience of this happening. I wish I was the kind of person that could simply start over and go on my merry way, but I know that either I will a. get a fix or b. I will not be playing fable 2 anymore.

Basically, I just want an honest answer if it would even be possible to get my stuff/stats back. If there is no hope, I just want to give up now. This is so frustrating for me... just... to sit still for 8 hours and play a game straight, including minigames of things like chopping wood for very long periods of time- things you would waste your time doing once but definately not twice (well.. at least I wouldn't). It just really, really, really ruined the entire game for me. Yes, it is a game, but when you invest *real* time and *real* money, even a game can be very emotionally harmful after losing what you deemed as your investment in some "fun."

I am not the so-called typical *** boy player, I am a 23 year old married female law student, and guess what, this REALLY bothers me, too! So anyway, I hope the employees respect the impact their product's problems have on others, even if they wouldn't mind it themselves (and of course working for a fix for the bug, if not a fix for the damage already incurred.) 

What is among the most disappointing issues though, is how this problem is not too hard to imagine happening with the current save system. The real problem is not with the bug itself, but with the extremely poor method of having only one save that happens to be saved over, often automatically. This is just a invitation for problems. While I understand that there can be logistical problems, I don't think a solution is impossible. As far as my actual problem now, I highly doubt there is a fix, but if there is any chance, I would like to know.

Ok. I've been at it hours now and even played 2+ hours with a new character and also replayed some of the pub games.

In the end I used an experience point glitch I found online. You need to remove the Fable 2 patches but it was all simple enough. I'm not sure if I should repeat it here but it shouldn't be too hard to find elsewhere.

I got enough xp to raise my abilities to what they were before. I'm not interested in cheating just getting back on track. 

For renown I've just been showing my trophies off for an hour to get it back up to where I need it to continue. Hope there's no negative impact for doing this.

So I think we're back on track. What a right bloody pain.

Ya this happened to me, I realized it had happened when I didn't have any spells when we started the adult quests so I assumed that the henchman was totally just a random character and it would add the exp and gold to my real hero but no it had to delete my crap!

its cuss you entered a game where you started out as a child when you already were an adult. if you saved when you were in the child world then all of your things would be gone. thats why when you play when you guys were adult everything went fine.

Most likely linked to the problem above... I decided to do a few spinner box games and won the jackpot (3 the same that opened the middle one and it made it 4 of a kind) and won 700 odd gold.

When I cashed in and went to the world it said you've won "Plaits hairstyle card" even though I'd already won it playing the arcade pub games. I hit A and it popped up again "Plaits hairstyle card"...

It's stuck. I've pressed A to collect it over a 100 times. I've turned my 360 off and on and when I load I get a white screen with "Plaits hairstyle card" on.

I really am stuck this time. I'm sure it's linked to the above reset problem as in the pub games on the inventory for my in game character it says he hasn't won any items. Also I've not heard of anyone else having a problem with the in game pub games.

The same thing happened to me. after Child phase everything is fine though.

Nope, I lost 1,014,000 gold, level 5 inferno and blades, rasie dead and time slow 3, other spellsdon;t matter) max brutal and dextrous, and level 3 on speed accuracy hp and dmg(forgot name). I have proof of the 1,330,000 xp I got in logbook.

Maybe they could have a GM go around with a Gm only pot that you pick xp you get and give us XP we lost? I do still have items(used a 62500 xp pot) but, I don;t want to have the 12:30 hours geting to hero of skill be wasted.

 

If you get in as henchmen before the hero can use abilities, it wipes it out.

Thanks alot for Lionhead responding to this very thread I hope my girlfriend dosent go into a trap when she joins my game tomorrow (I saved straight after done talking with Theresa, before getting my supplies in the chest, gypsy camp), with her profile and lose all she got, when I helped her out as henchman today.
