I don't think everyone wants to resort to that "workaround", given the nature of this game. I for one am rather attached to my heroic pure G o o d [Good]-hearted character...don't really want to have him going around slaughtering an entire town just to finish a quest.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

What I am wondering about is...

I have the game offline, so I wont be able to patch it through Xbox Live. And no I dont have silver either since I cant 'log' my 360 onto the network at all at Uni. But, yah will there be any chance of a download we could burn onto a CD to then put in our 360's for us offliners?

At least I have a wife, kids, and lots of gambling money to spend on things in Oakfield.

The local co-op killing spree didn't work well for me either...actually what I THINK did the trick for me was leaving Oakfield and coming back...as well as having my co-op buddy drop out before I entered the temple.

Check the workaround thread as I posted all my detail there.

I have this problem also. I've spent many hours (in the game) trying to figure this out, and finally decided to research this over the internet. Has a patch ever been created? I don't really want to kill the entire town to fix the glitch. Thanks.

I told him to try it, but he wants to be G o o d [Good] (which is the opposite of his choice in the first Fable).  He is playing Fallout 3 until the patch comes out.

I have tried this as well with no luck. I have actually tried every suggestion on the post several times with no luck.

    The "killing spree" solution WORKS!!

I try yesterday on a friends saved game and works

We try co-op online and don't work then he take his HDD out and drive to my home and using local co-op works.....

Where is the patch?  I need to get past this point in the game - I put hours and hours of time in already.

Please, Lionhead fix this glitch now!

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

okay so this is stupid. First, I play the game and get to Brightwood to do the Mage quest and my game freezes right after I beat the quest. I suck it up and restart. Now I'm at Oakfield walking around, I'm assuming somehow I activated the Abbot's Quest, and now I'm stuck here.

So does anyone have a clue as to when this "patch" will come out? Do you need to get on xbox live to download it once it does?

Hey Lionhead, can ya help me out????

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

It isn't a solution, its a "work around"

In a game where the morality of your character is so important and is defined by your actions I would hardly call killing a town/inn a "solution" to a problem. For some people it may be just fine, but it still isn't the solution to the problem.

If the patch has been created, when is Microsoft releasing it?!

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

I'm not going on a killing spree, in the meantime I'll just keep going out to Rookridge, kill the bandits, and keep levelling up. Or I'll chop some wood, not that it matters because I own every building everywhere and I now have almost a million dollars.

If Microsoft releases it, when and how will we know? How will we apply it to our game?

Seriously, this totally sucks. I'm stuck here in Oakfield with nowhere else to go because of how the quest has unfolded.

I only joined this account to post that I too have this problem. It is not just a minority of people as previously stated.

I'm putting the game away and playing Fallout3 until the patch comes. Its not worth my time to start over just to encounter yet another bug. This is unacceptable.

With each game out there, there are glitches. No game is perfect, like ME, as much as I love it there are more than Fable 2. With all the extras in this game, I am determined I will play and enjoy it, and I do. No other games make me so observed in, other than Fables. My 360 must be amazing, cause I play 12 hours at a time, sometimes, and no rrod. If I did get one, I'd just send it in and get it fixed, and play it some more.
Don't have trouble with the abbey, I just stay put.Smily [:)]

Listen, I know the abbot glitch is a big thing and has affected alot of people. But there are other problems. I am experiencing the 'black screen of death' so i cant load my saves or start another game. THIS is a problem, atleast the abbot quest ppl can play the game to an extent.. im locked out completely. Please reply to this on behalf of all the people experiencing the same problems as me so we can all get to sleep at night knowing you are doing something about it. Cheers.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

After turning off my xbox and turning on later.  I was able to progress!  It makes me wonder if I actually saw the glitch now!

The only other major glitch I might have seen is that possibly some achievements require Pub Games.  If so, this is a completely immoral business practice, taking advantage of those who purchased the Fable 2 game planning to get the achievement points within Fable 2.  I hope Lionhead/Microsoft will come clean and make these accessible within the game or replace the achievements with attainable achievements, as any reputable gaming company would.  I am optimistic because it just seems way too harsh on all of us core gamers for them to do otherwise.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

    Ted:

    Hello community,

We are aware that a minority of people playing Fable(r) II over the last few days have encountered an issue where the Abbot becomes unresponsive at the beginning of Monks Quest in Oakfield. This is an isolated issue, but we are currently looking into it as a matter of priority. If you have already encountered this issue, there is unfortunately no work-around at this time, but we will keep you updated on any progress made.

If you want to avoid this issue, when you go to the Abbot for the first time don't run away and leave the region after he has started talking to you. Listen to him, let him finish his cut-scene, and then you are free to do what you wish.

Some things slip through the net during development, especially when a game is the size and scope of Fable(r) II. Again, we can only apologise for this issue, but we are doing our best. We might be silent on these boards, but we are watching and listening to you, the community, and are looking into all serious issues that are bought to our attention.

    Thanks,
    Ted

Blah. Not for nothing Ted (I do appreciate you giving word on this), but what about the glitch where the game stops loading certain areas? I'm halfway into the Blind Date glitch. I'm in Bowerstone Market. Got the note from the guy I handed the farmer's son's picture to, and when I go to travel back to Brightwood to give the note to the farmer's son, the game freezes up every single time, forcing me to hard reset. I have tried literally every work around for this.

1.) Giving it to a different person (both girl and gay guy).
2.) Switching my main active quest after getting the note.
3.) Entering Brightwood from different areas rather than fast travelling.
    4.) Using the carriage service.
5.) Mixed all of these up and still nothing... freezes my game either way.

I'm pretty sure there is no work around for this and that it needs a patch, but if you do discover a way around this, I would love to know as I would love nothing more than to continue playing this addicting game. Thanks in advance for any reply.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

at first i was skeptical after hitting the abbot glitch. i thought hey we should hear something in a few days maybe a week. but 6 days later after checking this board like 4 times a day still no update. i too am with all those on this thread that are complaining about how we havent even got an update yet.  lionhead is rediculous. how long could it possibly take to post a messageo on here saying hey we are working hard to fix this and let us know how the patch is coming along...the fact they have not responded in over 2 weeks on this issue just makes me wanna take this game back and get my money back for it to use towards a newer game that i can ACTUALLLY ENJOY WITHOUT HAVEING TO WAIT TO PLAY IT BECAUSE THE DAMN GAME DEVELOPERS DECIDED, HEY LETS RUSH OUR GAME SO WE CAN HAVE SOME MONEY IN OUR POCKETS... im so sick of buying games anymore and having them overloaded with glitches.  fable 2 is by far the most glitch ridden game i have ever played in my life and i have played well over thousands of games in over 20 years of gaming. just my thoughts

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

Substitute Brain for Lionhead, and Novel for Patch...about sums it up.

Oh I know it hurts now Brian, but look at the bright side, you have some new material for that novel you've been writing. You know that novel you've been working on, you know the one you've been working on for three years...you know the novel...got something new to write about now...hmm, maybe a main character gets into a relationship...and suffers a little heartbreak, something like what, what you've just been through. Draw from real life experience...little heart break you know...work it into the story...make those characters a little more three dimensional...a little richer experience for the reader...make those second hundred pages really keep the reader guessing whats going to happen! Twists and turns. Little Epilogue! Everyone learns the heroes journey isn't always a happy one. Oh I look forward to reading it.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

After reading through a lot of the posts on this issue, as I am also suffering from this glitch, I thought it worth quoting the message Lionhead have on their contact page:

"Lionhead Studios has always had very G o o d [Good] direct communications with its gamers / customers. We enjoy providing a G o o d [Good] service and we always send personal replies to the messages received. Never have we used an automated system to reply to our very busy webmaster@lionhead.com email address and we’re not planning on changing this."

Unfortunately, they don't really provide the response they claim too, as I've read a lot of messages without any reply from lionhead about when this glitch will be fixed.

Re: Monks Quest Issue - Unresponsive Oakfield Abbot

Lionhead are a poor excuse for a game developer.  Never have I known of a game that actually stops you playing it and getting any further.  Fable 2 is riddled with so many big and noticeable bugs that it is beyond a joke.  I have the abbot problem and i refuse to restart my game because of the character development i have already completed.  What makes it worse is that we have not heard from lionhead in over 2 weeks on this issue, do they even care about their customers?  im near sure what they are doing is breaking some sort of comsure codes or laws; they are shipping and selling products with obvious faults that frustrate and prevent you from doing what the game says you can.

And, what about the unlucky few, like me, who can't connect their xbox 360s to the internet.  How are we going to be able to get this important update?  AND MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL, WHEN IS THE DARN UPDATE ACTUALLY COMING OUT?  Peter moyeneux is probbly rolling in the cash and can't be bothered sortin it out.

    GET IT SORTED!!!!
